Hey guys!

I’m wanting

to turn one of my car subs into a home sub just for music and movies.

I was

wondering what’s the best way to go about this?

I don’t

have a box for the sub so I guess id have to get one made from someone off of

craigslist.

What kind

of specs should it have or anything that I should have required done to the

box? Such as a port & air space.

I’m not

sure how either sub would work with the receiver I have.

So please

let me know which sub you think would be best match for the receiver.

I don’t

know much about this stuff so all help is appreciated.

I do not

want to spend much this lol.

Thanks!

What I have

to work with:

- Alpine

Type R 12” Sub - Model SWR-12D4

OR

- Alpine Type S 12” Sub – Model SWS-12D4

- As a receiver I have

Denon AVR-3803 Receiver

- I have two computer speakers that I am happy with, as they are very

loud.

I know this

may not be the correct forum but I figured it’d be the best place to post

something like this on considering it’s a car sub!

You will need a sub amp and a box.  Neither of those drivers are particularly well suited for home audio and IMO you'd be better off selling them and buying something that is, but it doesn't make it impossible.

welcome to ssa

try to use the enter bar less ;)

You can buy a powered sub in an enclosure from parts express for ~100.

i have a ascendant audio atlas 15 that needs reconed,  it would make a perfect home audio sub,

I had a SWR-12D4 hooked up to my sub channel off my Logitech X540 surround sound and it sounded very good in my basement. It was in a 2.5ft^3 box tuned at 33hz made out of particle board for pretty cheap. If it was powered by a proper amp Im sure it would sound even better. Good luck.

I used to have 4 of the first Gen Type R 15" drivers in vented alignments for a H/T sub stage.  They actually sounded pretty good.  They were different then the ones you have though.

You would probably be better off selling what you have and buying a sub geared more towards your application, as already mentioned.  You can get a really good 12-15" driver for around $150 and a decent plate amp for about the same...  If you haven't built a lot of boxes you can start with a simple sealed alignment...  Idiot proof most of the time...
