Hey Guys.

I bought a Klipsch SW-450 sub for my house.  I am having issues with it wanting to shake down the entire side of the house it's on, rather than provide clean crisp bass.  There is lots of interior walls and small rooms near the subwoofer (laundrey, halfbath)

It's located in a somewhat small foot printed nook but has lots of headspace.  main floor so basement is underneath but the back wall that the port fires into is an exterior wall.

Is a downfiring sub rear port a bad idea in this case?  later tonight I'm going to try and fit it in an identical nook on the otherside of the living room that has two exterior walls supporting it. I'm hoping the rigidity there will help.

I can get pictures later if needed.  let me know what other info you guys might need.  Should I be looking for a front firing front ported sub in this case?

thanks.

Hey man. Thanks for those links. It's definitely not a gain issue.

I played around with it a bunch last night moved it all over. Some areas are better than others but I'm still getting vibrations. I've traced most of them back to the fireplace. It sucks because I don't know how to fix that. I've thought about damplifier proing the thing lol but not sure it's a good idea. We do plan to use the fireplace often.

have you tried moving it over by the sofa? behind the sofa?

Yep both. Behind was ok but output was not great and it really does not look well behind the sofa.

Maybe try making a removable screen covered in mlv to put in front of the fireplace when you aren't using it? Just an idea, and it could be a poor one haha.

Is it downfiring? Any chance you can put it on its side and face sub torwards you? See if it helps any.

Wonder if the downfiring is loading that small enclosed space...

So I tested this out briefly last night.  It actually worked pretty well. I think i'm screwed with trying to use that cubby but when I had it pulled outside of it and maybe 2ft away from the fireplace it was not nearly as bad.  Still had some rattle but I think with a little more placement tweaking I can minimize it further.

now the dillema is getting this thing returned without a hassle.
