Posted January 13, 201411 yr Been looking into 15" driver's that work really well in small sealed enclosures 2cubes and below. The old power series of Rockford fosgate hx2 caught my attention with the recommended size of 1.25 sealed for a 15(before sub displacement). Is that correct does the driver hit a low enough frequency response in that recommended size of box? Just had the rf,dc lvl3,dayton ho on my list of drivers....Is this worth my time looking at a older style driver?
January 13, 201411 yr model it and find out. what kind of vehicle is this going in? i would consider if you're worried about box size and low end extension then i think infinite baffle would be the way to go assuming you drive a sedan.

January 13, 201411 yr the HX2 series woofers from RF were awesome woofers I had a pair of 12" Power HX2 's in a Mazda Hatch backand I could damn near levitate the car on 15hz..... the FS of the 12" Power HX2 was around 27hz...... the Punch HX2 dropped decent as well Edited January 13, 201411 yr by Thumpper
January 13, 201411 yr Author they seem like quality drivers just not a lot of info on them..and most of the topics I read on the Rockford fosgates seem like inexperienced people talking negative or positive. Edited January 13, 201411 yr by Dictator
January 13, 201411 yr I don't have my modeling software here, but judging by the Vas of the driver, I would be will to bet that 1.25ft^3 would be on the small side. A lot of car audio manufacturers recommend sealed alignments with higher total Q's (like above 1) because the bump in upper end response gives it a "Punchy" sound... Rockford probably did the same thing. I'd go out on a limb to say if you build the right size box to be the flattest and give the lowest Fc, it will probably be upwards of 2ft^3+.... Model and see for yourself...
January 13, 201411 yr Author I was using winisd 2.5cubes was the best enclosure it worked in..after that no increase in output. What driver would you recommend for a good flat response in a small sealed box 15? Edited January 13, 201411 yr by Dictator
January 14, 201411 yr Any of the SSA or FI (especially the high Qts FI Q) woofers meant for a sealed box would be great. I do think the best deal around right now for sealed box woofers would be the 12" or 15" Ultimax woofers from Parts Express... Just my opinion though... They are $179 and $199, respectively. 12 in a 2ft^3 box and the 15 in a 3ft^3 box will net you sealed F3's around 35Hz, that is LOW for sealed, you would get a serious bottom end...
January 14, 201411 yr Hell, if you don't mind a cube box Parts Express has a CNC cut, heavily braced MDF cabinet kit for the 12" version in a kit discount price...
January 14, 201411 yr 15" package http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-15-ultimax-subwoofer-and-cabinet-package--300-7097 12" package http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-12-ultimax-subwoofer-and-cabinet-package--300-7096
January 14, 201411 yr Author I was looking at dayton ultimax and ho hardcore. Looks like a good option but im building the box myself. Lot cheaper. I would love a pair of fi q's just cant find a pair priced right used ;((
January 14, 201411 yr Thanks. I can't paste in links and the "link" link just times out, think I have compatibility issues...
January 14, 201411 yr Author What im learning high qts is most important factor for a sealed setup. Guess you cant get fantastic low end from a small sealed enclosure.
January 14, 201411 yr Author Gotcha well im going spare more room. Anybody have any pair of ssa 15inch drivers that they wanna part with? Not nib!! Edited January 14, 201411 yr by Dictator
