some are indeed fused via a fusible link...however, it is not necessary. but it depends on how safety oriented you are. me ? i don't even fuse my power wire going back to the amps..lol..

i'm crazy like that......

oh, and welcome to ssa bro!!!

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

i'd fuse....

Fuse: $7

vs

Stock Replacement Alternator: $150

or

New HO Alternator: $300+

or

Decent Replacement Battery: $70

or

New Yellow Top or one of the likes: $150

you could go through 10 fuses before you hit the cheapest of all the things that could break, but it isnt a must since if something goes horribly wrong it is likely your alternator will just die then it will drain your battery and melt the caseing off of your wire. You will see everything (including your engine) die and will coast to the side of the road. So unless the wire is by something flameable your car probably wont catch on fire.

16 runs of 0g going to my amps, and the big 3 in my daily. Fuses?? :ughdunno:

You do not need to fuse anything really, it would be wise to though. Friend of mine has a large case alt that was putting out serious amperage and blew his 300amp fuse on it, if that didn't break, we wouldn't have known about the problem, thus could have done some damage.

Stay in school kids, and fuse your rides.

Why's it always got to be about the "big three"???

Why can't be the "little three"; not everyone uses 1/0awg.

because they are the three biggest things you should worry about with an electrical system.

you have have a 4,000GPM water pump...but it aint gonna work to full potential through a garden hose ;)

I know that...

...I was being sarcastic ("little" as in smaller awg (8, 4, or 2) instead of 1/0 awg).

Not everyone needs surfboard-size U.S. Amps units in their trunk...

:ughdunno:

i know...some people may not have and it was a good opertunity to add an anology explaining why Big 3 is important.

If more threads recommended the 4,000 gpm water pump (HO alt) then i would be MUCH happier.

Big three solves nothing IMO. 99% Cars are not sold with bigger alts than necessary. Systems in my mind are nothing more than transference of power. If you have none extra to "transfer", making its easier to do so really doesnt do a whole lot of good. This "fix" IMO, has become the new "cap" of the car audio world.

big 3 helps wt lights,lol

Then again so does a relay

look at it thisway, caroded 4ga stock wiring with steel lugs and ends and no direct alt (-) to ground...or 1/0 uncaroded everything :)
