Why does enclosure plans use dimensions for builds over ft. Measurements ?

  ie. displacement vs. total internal area ?

Some actual reference to what you are looking at would be helpful.

Fundamentally enclosures need a required volume.  Rather easy to define that in many ways, but it is always describing an internal volume of the enclosure.
