If they went up high enough to blend with a typical dome tweet, it'd open up some possibilities for fairly high efficiency MTM's, especially if cabinet size wasn't a concern such as a floorstanding tower.

Anything over 90dB/W for a pair and a minimal-ish crossover would have me salivating...

Well a company has to make what they can sell, depends on if there is a better demand for an 8" subwoofer or a woofer. I found a home based 8 on sale cheap (<$30+ship) I might try for fun, its pretty smooth up to 2K maybe more according to some but power handling is marginal. Of course I really need to finish my IB sub install in my car before I go back into the doors, and that is why I know I will need lots of midbass to keep up with 4 12" subs IB. But if a home speaker can sound that good with a 10 and 1", then my car should be able to get by with an 8 and a 1" in front...I just hate screwing with passive crossovers but it might be worth it. Also have an active EQ I could use. They use these drivers for little home speakers (well maybe normal size today since I have 15s in my house) and studios, they use ported enclosures so maybe they can do IB ok. If not I might be using them in a home speaker....

I have this silly idea that a mid woofer 8 is a great idea in the car, but I could be wrong. You are limited to custom installs.

if i get the 2 maw15s im looking at i would b interested in putting 2 8's in 2 fill up the space in my trunk.. other wise im gunna have 2 put 6.5's in or mayb 10s but i dont think they would fit..

im putting 2 15's in and i have room for 2 more subs in the trunk.. i would like 2 put 10s in but i dont think they will fit.. but 8's will for sure and 6.5's are a bit small.. sorry that was worded really bad lol im all for mark offering 8's!!

I'm putting 4 12" into my back seat and it will just about cover the entire area, but I'll have room for the amp in the center. And all I will have in the trunk is the amp(s) and 4 baskets hanging out, no box. I could put 8s in the rear deck instead, but I want to see if this works in this car instead of tearing into it.

well i didnt read the whole thread but i'd like to see an efficient driver over tons of power handling (85-87db/1w/1m seems realistic for an 8), small vas is a must, but unlike the rest of you're maw line i'd much prefer a higher Qts for some better low end sensitivity (which you'll defintely need considering the Sd). i normally don't pay much mind to xmax but i think it'll be important to squeeze as much as possible out of this driver. i think Ascendants assassin 8 is a pretty good example of all this, or something like you're current 6.5's but on super steroids.

I don't want to speak for Scott...but personally I'm imagining that as one big aural clusterfuck. You want to keep with the same size woofers playing the same frequency range...otherwise you run into cancellation and response peaks and all sorts of nasty things that could have been avoided.

Yea that wouldn't be what I would do man.

I suppose more drivers could look cool... .but most of the time they would just be creating problems.

You would be better off using that extra space for your enclosure for your 15s.

Why not just make a trim panel to hide the rest of the space, or perhaps make an amp rack to fill in the rest of the space? I definitely wouldn't recommend mixing the two different size subwoofers in there, though.

What car is this going in? I can't think of too many cars with trunks big enough to fit 2 15's and still be able to have 16+" of usable space left on the sides...

The Ascendant 8 was nice looking. I think if I was going to use an 8 sub in the future it would be in a ported box or maybe IB, it would have to be HD because that is why I tend to use larger unless I have a specific reason. If the cost was reasonable I would be more inclined to use multiple units to fit space better. I like to hit 30Hz in music, but sometimes you have to take what you can fit. Still 4 or more 8s can make a pretty good thunder.

You cover such a small range of frequency there is little need for more than one sub setup in a typical system, save your money and put it to better use like a better front stage, better HU or crossover/etc. At least from my view which tends to be SQ orientated, though sometimes loud enough I can feel it.

I want an 8" sub that will work ideally in <.5 cubes sealed, under 3.5" deep, with a Neo motor and a "narrow" frame (not the 12 spoke cast basket). Yes, it's for selfish purposes, but noone else will make it for me.

Have you looked at some of the shallow mount units out there? There are a few brands that are quite capable from what I understand...

Yeah, the only 8" I can find is the Pioneer. It will fit, but the 6-hole mounting won't allow the factory grill, and it's performance lacks on the low end. Decent midbass.

If it is a 3-way front end, you can do both. My 8" midbass is going to be running only up to 300-400Hz anyways, and likely will be diggigg down to 20Hz at times & being my subwoofer.
