I am selling my lightning for an SUV. The main reason is because i am going to start a stereo shop in town. My whole reason for the new build is so i can have somthing to show off. I want your guys opionion about everything because i am new to the game and i know you guys are some of the best around and have a crap load more experience about anything audio than i do.

Let me first say that i might not be the best when it comes to audio. I do infact like every aspect of it. I am 18, I Have and drive for my own race team and have a couple employees twice my age. I have built over 30 race cars and i can do pretty much anything with metal. Well when it comes to wood i am a flat out rookie. The only way i am going to learn how to do it well is to do it an make mistakes.

My old system was

1- RE Audio SX 12in in a 2.6cu ported box

2- JL audio 500/1

1- JL 300/4

2- cdt Cl 62 coponents

2- Rockford power coponents

Kenwood Flip out head unit

My budget is not unlimited ,but like i said i want some nice stuff and i know it cost money so i don't mind putting another $2500 into the allready system.

I was thinking of getting another 12 SX and selling the JL 500's for 2 used 1000/1 JL amps. ( i was amazed with how 1 sounded so i would be happy with 2. i also like Jl amps for the price i think they are very high quaility.) I want to keep the amps the same brand so i was thinking of getting a 450/4. with my 300/4 i think that would be good power for the coponents. i have always liked Alpine and i know that there type X coponents on ebay are a reasonable price. i wanted to get 2 sets of 6.5 coponents and 2 sets of 5.25 coponents???? i don't know if they are a good choice ,but i do know everything they put out is really nice.

This is a start about the ideas that i have so i am shure you have have some feedback on that. Feel free to make any suggestion that you want. I don't mind starting completely over because i know i can easyily sell everthing i have for more than i paied for it.

All I'm gonna say here is IMO JL is overpriced. You can do so much more for so much less $$$.

Make a suggestion. I have my 2 500's on the 1 SX and it was a great package. I bought those amps for $250. I can get a 1000 for about $450 to 500. I like sundown and us amps ,but i don't have the money to spend $2000 on sub amps. So what would you get

What are some brands your going to try to carry at your shop? It seems you would try to run stuff you carried.

I am not really shure excatly what brands that i am going to have. I am going to try to focus on some of the more inexpensive brands ,but i know that the first step would be to build something to have to my name. If i want to change out the coponents later i can always do that ,but for right know i need to get something built.

Don't rush into it and end up wasting money, especially since you're going to be starting your own shop; you're going to want all the extra money you can have. I'd say you're a LONG ways off from making a shop if you still don't know what you want to carry. I'd put some thought into what you're going to carry before you build up this SUV, since, as suggested earlier, you should probably only use what you're going to carry.

I get what you are saying. I want to do this build before i get into making decisons on the store because in some ways i want to make shure that it is really what i want to do. I am hoping to get the store up and running in 3 to 4 months. This build is in some ways is to try out a few friends that are interested in helping out with getting this project under way. They say they want to help and be involved but until they do i still want to cover all bases.

It is also good experience for me. I haven't done many custom install's. I want to know excatly what i need to do before i get into anything. In my mind i have only one shot for this "store idea" to work so i want to take my time and do it right. Who knows... Maybe by then i will have a different car and do another build.

I know that is sounds like a am a total Amateur. When it comes to the details of doing a high end install i am no expert. All i know is what i think makes sense and most of what i would do might be very wrong. What i am a not a Amateur in is Buiness. i am a senior in high school and last year i pulled in $50,000... The only problem i spent $75,000. I know this market and how to play it. The only peice to the puzzle that is missing is finding the experts to help me with the other side of things. That is why i want to put some money in to a build and see who can help. Lets see who can back up what they say.

I was thinking of getting 3 RE SX 12's with 2 sundown amps. The box would be huge.

Maybe the center sub could be inverted???? Any thought's???

don't build until you know what brands you are going to carry. you are going to want your customers wanting what's in your vehicle. you build with products not in your store, your basicly telling your customers that what your store carries isn't good enough for your ride. when you do decide which products your going to carry, only install the top of the line stuff. make your install all but out of reach, they'll want what you have and will go to great lengths (and dollars) to achieve what you have.

I was doing some reashearch on some audio distributor's. Does anyone know of any good ones or have any experience dealing with them??? Just trying to figure some stuff.

Where are you located?

There is a decent wholesale house here in town. But one thing I would recommend to you is to get in with a few of the larger manufacturers and become a dealer. dealing with just wholesalers has ruined many a shops.
