Posted May 26, 200718 yr hey, posting this up for future reference for people that might need the infoi have an old 12" claw basket mag and the surround is torn on it. i am wondering:1- is it possible to get a recone on it? or do you guys only do the new subs2- if it is possible, is it possible to keep the same look of the old mag? or would it look like the new ones after the recone?3 -and how much would a recone costthanks
May 26, 200718 yr IIRC, Nick only has recones left for new drivers. You get all the soft parts of the new driver on the old chassis and motor. Now this has it's benefits. It will not look the same, but there were several improvements on the new soft parts that will impart a better driver on an old motor. If you are stuck wanting the old look, you're only option will be to contact TC Sounds. As for price, I believe it's $125.

If that's ALL it needs, I'd contact TC Sounds and see if they have a surround they can send you and you can just put that on yourself. As for the alt, nothing yet. Bills are piling up and audio dreams going by the wayside.

Bills are piling up and audio dreams going by the wayside.i can try to get a picture of it. i have one on my girls camera just for this purpose but i dont have the camera right now. as for the tear...let me try to describe it. on the old mags you have the dust cap then the cone, and then the surroung glues to the cone. the surround material is like 1/4" all the way around the subwoofer and then the surround material bulges up...like you know the big round bump that goes all the way around. well right where the surround material actually jumps up its torn all the way around (well actually its torn about 1/3rd of the way around). not sure if it makes sense to you...
May 30, 200718 yr Easier to recone the sub, and you can re-use the old dustcap if you don't tear it up when you cut the soft parts out of the motor...New parts are far better and you'll still have the 'old look' as well.

May 30, 200718 yr Author well i really gotta think about it. oh and to the SI guys heres what the sub looks like. you can see where the glue is, thats where the surround is torn
June 1, 200718 yr New soft parts on an old motor will change the T/S's. I can't see the pic on this PC, but I'll try to look at it tonight on a different computer.
June 2, 200718 yr it is separated completly from the cone almost 3/4 of the way around the subi believe i would go ndmstangs route and try to reuse the dustcap
June 3, 200718 yr Author it is separated completly from the cone almost 3/4 of the way around the subi believe i would go ndmstangs route and try to reuse the dustcapnah its seperated completly probably 1/5 to 1/4 of the way and then the rest i glued because it was starting to come apart. the surround is just kinda coming apart now.
July 11, 200718 yr Wow, I've never seen a surround tear on a Mag. I've seen some used and abused Mags too Did you ever get it fixed?
