June 7, 200718 yr Darvex.com, IIRC, sells Stinger horizontal fans...to move air across the top of the heatsink.Computer case fans are another idea, maybe from newegg.com? I'm sure someone who knows more about computer DIY'ing can give more places.

June 8, 200718 yr Here is what I would use. Pretty much the quietest computer fan (as of 1.5yrs ago when I built my last pc). I'd highly recommend them as an upgrade to anyone with a 120mm in their pc case as well.

June 8, 200718 yr I think a squirrel cage fan that thermaltake makes would be a great amp cooler, especially if you have a amp rack where amps are stacked on top of each other. You could just leave an inch of clear space in between each one and blow the fan across the top of the heatsink, that way the entire payload of the fan would be blowing across that top of the amp. I will see if I can get a picture of the fan I'm talking about.

I bought a 22dba fan from them and measured it in an anechoic chamber at 38dba. That is some serious bs, the squirrel cage is even worse.

You obviously don't listen to music with space in it.I guess...I tend to listen to music with...music in it As any musician will tell you, sometimes it's the space between the notes that makes all the difference I've got a recording of Vivaldi's Flute Concerto in D that really shows this...when the flute solo takes over, you can hear the player taking breaths in the rests, any ambient noise the microphone is picking up...all things that you'd hear if you were actually there. My Tantrum 1200.1 has a fan that masks some of these low-level details, it's annoying.
June 8, 200718 yr I have a big A/B sub amp that has 2 fans in it. It's noisy as hell and is really irratating on softer passages. I will never own another car amplifier with fans.Efficiency FTW!
