Hey i got the 2 12" Bl's and you designed me the box, had the box built for 400 bucks, got the amp installed and the subs slam, insane man im so happy i went with FI, i have a kicker 2500 on the subs, but quickly just want to know about break in, i have them playing kinda hard right now but my amp isnt putting out the correct wattage im only getting about 15 volts, and i need 70.7 for 2500 watts at 2ohms, my gain is up to max and i use bass boost, but im getting no distortion so im guessing im ok? sorry i couldnt take more time to write this out but im at work and going quick

No, you're not ok. Did you set the gains properly? Because if you did, you would have the correct voltage you need. You should never max out the gain, and the bass boost is something most of us never use.

Also, make sure your multi-meter is using the correct measurement i.e. AC vs DC. That could be why your numbers are askew.

yea its ac, i did it all right, i just dont understand why its doing that, if i lower bass boost it sounds like no bass, im going to take it up to a shop here and have them look at it i guess because im lost

Do NOT set the gains with a damn dvom, baaaaaaaaaaaad idea, whoever came up with that one should be shot. Ill get you a link to explaining why you shouldn't set your gains like that.

DMM doesn't tell you if your clipping a signal or not. I really wish the people on the forums would have NEVER told/mentioned about how to set a gain with a DMM or that you "HAVE" to set your gains with a DMM...the only time you need to set them with a DMM is when you are gain matching multiple amps on one single sub, or one single load.

All it measures is AC voltage, now doing the weird funky equation coming up with you should use "35 volts" has quite a few flaws..

That 35 volts may have the amp wide the hell open bass boost cranked and everything else to get it, by that time its a 100% clipped, dirty, square wave signal that the amp makes even worse. All a gain is is a knob that lets you adjust the RCA output voltage to INPUT voltage on the amp, when you abuse it bad things happen, (Deck output = Amp input) The two should be the same. If your deck does 2.5v out, then you should set the gain accordingly to 2.5 volts of input.

General rule of thumb - Stay under half way, no more than 3/4 gain...and don't go wide open on the volume knob...NO BASS BOOST...bass boost is a knob that shouldn't even be there, does nothing but make an even dirtier signal.

Easiest way to do it, turn mids/highs to your normal listening level on the headunit, back the gains down on the amps, adjust up accordingly until it sounds as if it blends well...

Regardless - If you are hearing a 'pop' sound you are unloading the woofers, easy on the gains and the volume knob.

ok as of right now im not even gonna play it anymore, the amp doesnt put out chit with out bass boost, i have no idea whats going on, im just going to bring it to a place on tuesday and hopefully they wont charge me a hell of alot to look at it

in that video it shows the subwoofer hardly moving without bass boost and then hardly moving with bass boost, but mine hardly moves without it but moves a chit load with it, i heard some where a while ago that kicker amps need to use bass boost, i have no idea how true that is
