I have a set of alpine type x 6.5 comps in my car right now. I like the sound of them, but they dont handle quite enough power to get the loudness I want. I am considering either the boston z6's or the diamond d971's- both on ebay ~500 shipped. Has anybody out there heard these 2 sets of speakers to do a comparo? I would do a listen myself, but I dont really want to drive 4 hours to get to a shop that carries high end like that. I have had boston before and loved the sound( pro's and the old rally's). I have heard very good things about the diamonds but never actually heard any. As I said I like the sound of the alpine's, but would like a little more brightness on the tweeter, and a punchier midbass. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

What HU are you using?

Most out of the box components sets are lacking in almost every aspect.

Using a jvc kd-avx1, not using h/u power, I have approx 320 watts per side available at 4 ohms

I would say the d971.s sound better. But for that kind of money I would also look into Hertz space k6l components, or go the diy route.

Seems like nice stuff, but I don't think I want to go with hertz at all. One thing I like about the diamonds is the slightly larger midbass driver, and the metal tweet. Any idea which of the 2 systems I mentioned would give the best detail? Thanks

Hertz > Diamond> Boston.

I have heard and auditioned all three in my car. I would choose the space k8l's (even though its an 8" mid bass) over the other two any day.

I haven't heard anything from Diamond that compares to the Z6's...but then again, they're not for everyone.

At the time I could get the D9's and the z6's for the same price. I liked the tweets of the d9 better, I wouldn't say that the d9 midbass is really anything special though. The z6 tweets were too bright for me. The Hertz space k8ls, which Ironically are the cheapest of the three in retail, have the largest midbass etc. Just sound the most natural, almost as if they aren't speakers at all. Just sound. The tweets are superb in the large body arrangement and are very detailed, not airy. But at the same time they are not overpowering.

Where would someone go to listen to or buy the hertz speakers? The website shows no distributors in usa or canada.

I will have to get a better list, but I know that Audio Obsessions in Colonie NY is an authorized dealer. Anyplace that carries audison should be able to get hertz speakers as they are the same company.

Well, in my install the woofer is down low in the oem position, and the tweet is up high on the door panel, and the tweets are pointed towards the windshield on the adjustable mount. I just recieved the d971's, paid 340 shipped, so I got a very good deal. It will be a while before they get installed, but I will post up with some results.
