Hello All:

This is my first venture into subwoofers and am hoping to build a Mach MAW-15 sub for Home Theater purposes. I have a prefab sealed cabinet with an internal volume of 2.5 cu. ft.

I hope to drive it with a Parts Express SA240 or 240 watt plate amp. As the MAW-15 is rated at 500W RMS whereas with only 240w AMP - Is this power be sufficient to push the MAW-15 for Ht purposes.

I humbly request your advice if I am on the right track in purchasing this driver.

Keep up the gr8 product line! Kudos!

Thank You!

TSS

Hi there,

As I mentioned to you in my email, the best way to achieve the low-low end for home theatre is to build big and tune low (bass reflex that is). If you wish to go the MAW-15 route, you can put together a 6.4 cube box and tune it to 20Hz. If you can afford the space, you can snag an MJ-18 and build a 8.8 cube box and tune that to 18Hz.

You will achieve more output using the MJ-18, but depending on the size of your room, the MAW-15 would be just fine too.

Best,

Mark

Old post but..

How much port area would you suggest for the MAW 15 and 18 for HT use?

Hi there,

If you follow the recommendations on the site, you can use a 6" tube for either configuration. For the MAW-15 go with a 25" length; for the MJ-18 use a tube 22" long. Flair your ends if you can to minimize vent noise.

Best,

Mark
