One day what I need to do is let my cousin drive my car while I check all the places where I can find noise, that will be the start. I know the main problems in my car are trunk, rear wheel wells, doors and possibly the floor but havent diagnosed that as a trouble area yet. Thanks for the heads up now I have a new plan on the agenda, diagnose road noise while someone else is driving. I drove around for a month and a half with the back seat out and the trunk gutted. I installed a couple pieces of LLP and drove for a few days before adding more. When I installed the rear wheel well pieces the road noise all but disappered, I am talking 75-80% from that one area ALONE. Honestly I think there is little to NO need to do ANYTHING under the factory carpet as the factory carpet is backed with a VERY RIGID material thats like MVL, Then there is padding (simular to CCF)glued to the under side of the carpet in most spots. THEN there is factory dampener in the worst spots already on the metal floor panel. If your aren't sealing the trunk off I would definetly start there also. The next best piece was under the rear seat. I am still working on the doors, BUT ALMOST all the noise I can hear now is coming through the doors SO I know this will finish it up as gOOd as its going to get for a car anyways. Don't hesitate to ask more questions, because I am SURE you can learn from my mistakes.

WOW Sean, I don't know if I could find a BADDER midbass if I tryed. I had been looking pretty hard at the Vifa NE225w-04 8" and its 10" big brother, But this Aura is a beast. I found a store with these Aura's in stock and I WILL buy them TODAY if you tell me I am not going to find anything even close to better for my SQ APP. with the full range 3"-4" driver? YES I am a young bull and could spend years looking at drivers and still miss the mark. Thanks for your time Sean. I've seen the 12" version of that play nicely beyond 1kHz. Sure you'll get some beaming at those frequencies, but in your case you won't have to. They will take some power to get moving, but are GREAT woofers. You could surely match them with horns, but in your case with a 3" you'll be able to really play with the crossover frequencies to really pick what works right. FYI, they should be around $150 ea. Not sure what that store is selling them for. SWEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!! I am pretty sure I will order em'. THey look like JUST what I have been serching for. ONCE AGAIN you are the MAN SEAN. The place I found them has them at $154.10 SO p-u-u-u-r-r-r-fect!!!!!

The MOST effective places I LLPed, would be the rear wheel wells and doors. MOST of the road noise in a economy sedan comes from the rear wheels (and trunk floor) AS THEY share the passenger compartment. MOST outside city noises come threw your doors. I recommend starting with these areas if you are on a budget, as this will lower the noise floor the most, Probably 70-80% of it anyways. See if you EVEN think you need anymore after that. In theory, the MVL is a barrier, So blocking the noises at the source will be the most effective.

HAHA. seasoning. I'm gonna have to use that term one day. Funny HAHA, "Conditioned" works good too. My favorite term is SAF factor, I use that one alot too.LOL. SAF=Spouse Appoval Factor. I quit drinking 1 1/2 years ago and Smoking 3 1/2 years ago, SO my wife is pretty happy that I am interested in something BETTER. You could say the SAF fator is pretty high at my house.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!! Now we both can go CrAzY wAiTiNg for alternators. My factory alt. keeps shuting off when my cars RPMs are under like 1200, I just got the sub amp in a week ago, before that everything was normal. SO I think I am in pretty gOOd hands with DC Power.

I would LOVE to own the Leviathan, INFACT I have been seasoning the wife so she won't be so shocked when I buy it.LOL. I think you will be ALOT HAPPIER when you do get done by taking your time and just mocking up different things to see how they work in real time. NOTHING EVER works how I have it envisioned in my head, BUT desire is the driving force, SO keep up the gOOd work.

The 10" mounted flat will be WAY moe comfortable than the Pod is now. The 10" in the picture is probably 1 1/2" - 2" lower and 1 1/2"-2" out more than than where THE pod will place it. As far as feeling the one more, I usaully turn the right side Midbass up after I play with T/A if this starts occuring, as I only listen loud by myself from the drivers seat. RIGHT NOW I can hardly hear the mids in my car over the 15" BTL and the Tweeters, and I DON"T want to turn them down to the mids level.

My pod now sticks out like 1 1/2" -2" more than this Sony sub, And thats just from on top of the door card, I could get the 10" sub in about another 1 1/2"- 2" when done. What do you think Sean? I can only fit a 3" midrange as the biggest for my dash pods. The 3"ers wold be about 15 degress of axis to get both sides to match. I still lOOking at fullrangers Also SO open MORE suggestions. Or maybe a REALLY BaddAss Dome tweeter firing straight up bouncing off the windsheild?and raise the staging alittle more?

    Fiberglass vs MDF Subwofer enclosures

I vote you stick with your plans. I like my install to lOOk gOOd too. Fiberglass isn't that hard to do, You will pick it up quick. Make the 5 sides of the box out of mdf, shape the top 4 edges to your seat line and make a MDF ring for your speake size, support the ring from from the back side at the angle you want. Then wrap stetchy fleece over the ring and staple the edges along the top of the sides of your box until you like the shape. Then resin the fleece without any fiber mat and let that cure, Then proceed to build up 3-5 layers (depending on span) of fiberglass resin and mat until SOLID. Then use body filler (Bondo) to make the part you see all pretty before you paint or cover with vinyl. There is a gOOd article/write-up in the feb/mar issue of Performance Auto and Sound mag. ,you should check out.

I will be mounting the bigger midbass flat with the door because it will be crossed lower than the 6.5 thats there now. I think even with the 6" depth The pod would still Not be out as far as the corner of my pod now. Here is a 10" for fitment and mocking. top veiws, this 10" is only 5" deep but I have a couple 10" subs I will test fit also but I think I am good. I will be making the hole in to the door cavity ATLEAST the DIA. of the driver so as not to choke the backwaves of the driver. The door will be sealed as good as possible, Dampened and lined with LLP. I will probably make MOST of my new pod out of MDF so the Driver will have a VERY SOLID mount to push off of. YES I have the POWER to drive the properly with NO clipping.

    Fiberglass vs MDF Subwofer enclosures

X2 ^ EVERYTHING he said. LOTS and LOT of layers is definently the differance between a small tweeter or midwoofer pod and a sub enclosure. NO audible difference between the two materials.

Is it acceptable to raise the crossover frequency of your sub and pull that part of the stage back to give you the kick drum feel and some wicked mids up front? The reason I ask is that you will have to sacrifice somewhere. Either you have the output you desire and you cross your sub higher, or you have an unbelievable stage. Everything is a compromise. You could with either though have a couple different eq setups for different listening volumes, but you'll need a crossover that will let you store multiple crossover points then as well. I am stuck in offering up a pro audio midrange that will blend great with the horns, or a subwoofer for an 8" which will blend well with the 50hz subs. Of course if you are willing to put a 10lb driver up front and put a ton of power on it you can have both. In that range though, my choice would actually be a 10". What do you think? A ten inch sounds good to me. Hey Sean will a 10" work with my 3-4" fullrange setup? I guess what I am asking is will the 10" have as good of trans. response as an 8" for a SQ setup? I imagine it could be driver dependent MOSTLY?

Finally getting the hang of it after 16 years Yeah I hear you about what is avalible, I have done a TON of different jobs. SOME where WAY funner than others, BUT I made them ALL work 4 me. My oldest daughter lives with my ex inlaws is the ONLY reason I don't move (other than its BEAUTIFUL here). Damn 16 years is a long time at one job? now a days anyways.
