    Saying Goodbye

Well guys, as you have probaby noticed I havent been around much here lately (or anywhere on the net). Six months ago I took a promotion and helped start up a new division with the company I work for and it's been hectic to say the least. Well, it continues to be busy and I cannot devote the time to Acoustic Visions that it needs and with great sadness I'm giving everybody here a heads up that I'll be closing shop in a month when it comes time to renew my URL. I've been in business since early 2001 so it's been a good run and I've loved every minute of it and I want to thank you guys for everything you've done. My heart just isnt in to it any longer and I'm too tired after work to give customers my full support and they deserve better. It's been a great time and I appreciate everybody for your support and the many friendships that I've made over the years. I started out just hoping that AV would give me a little spending money to help feed my audio adiction. It took off and for several years I did well enough that I considered doing it full time but I could never make the leap of faith it required so I kept its growth at a pace that I could live with while still working full time and it worked well for quite some time. I'll be honest, with the demise of Adire, Acoustic Visions also started to head down hill. By that time I was starting to lose interest and motivation to change gears to keep AV alive. I'm positive I could have done it with the right amount of motivation but it was too late at that point. With the new promotion at work I was working more and more and AV was about the last thing I wanted to do after getting home so it finally came time to make the tough decision about what to do and as you can see I have decided to close the doors. Acoustic Visions is something I'm proud of and I hope it has helped many of you in the past. It was a great chapter in my life and a great learning experience as well since I have never had any business or financial classes to help prepare me for owning my own business. Thats the great thing about life, we learn from experience and apply it to the next chapter in our life so we can become well rounded individuals. And so begins the next chapter..... Thanks, Kyle Richardson Acoustic Visions

    Product highlight for August:

On my homepage as well as the forum I'm going to highlight a new product each month. Many of these products may be new items or items that you may not know much about but are worth checking out because they are stand outs for value or performance. The first product is the CSS SDX15 - 15" XBL Subwoofer driver Acoustic Visions is proud to offer the CSS SDX15 driver. For those looking for class leading sound quality with the ability to get low and loud (30mm Xmax each direction) then this driver should be at the top of your list. It utilizes an XBL2 motor for excellent sound quality, low distortion, and low inductance and as a result offers a VERY flat frequency response throughout the entire bass bandwidth. It uses dual 3" dual layer copper voice coils that are 2 ohm each allowing for the driver to be wired in series for a 4 ohm load which many home audio subwoofer amplifiers are optimized for or wired down to 1 ohm parallel for those beefy car audio amps. This driver is $270.00 including shipping so it is extremely well priced when compared to other drivers in its category. Recommended sealed enclosures: Car audio - 2.5 cubic feet sealed and fully stuffed. Home audio - Mid Q (Q.707)
  5. I'm buying my 13 year old daughter a keyboard for Christmas and I think she would enjoy hooking it up to her computer and mixing/composing some music with it as well. What INEXPENSIVE (well under $100) would you suggest for her? I need something that would be easy to learn and use but powerful enough that she wont get bored with it in a month.

    2 Tempests

There are links to the .pdf's for both the Shiva and Tempest in post #5 in this thread. Dont be too concerned when it says "automotive use" or "home theater use" at the beginning of various applications in the .pdf because they are merely guidelines. As with any DIY driver you can experiment and find out what will work best for your application by running various simulations. Again, these are merely guidelines to possibly start from...

    2 Tempests

If you have enough room to accommodate a ported enclosure then they are great.

    2 Tempests

In addition to what the other guys have said, take a look at the Shiva Applications and the Tempest Applications. They will give you a good idea as to what enclosure sizes they need for both ported and sealed applications.

    12" and 15" subwoofer blowout

We had a slight goof on a production run which has a wee bit too stiff of a suspension for our original goals. Our choices are to send them back to the build-house and have them rebuilt or offer them at a blow-out price of $160 including shipping for those interested in an IB. My build-house is giving me a good break because it was their mistake. Compare this to the Dayton Audio IB Subwoofer @ $120 with less than half the available excursion (which you will need with an IB sub) and you will find this is an unbeatable value. These are based upon the Adire Audio Brahma motor so they have a healthy 26-27 x-max with the XBL^2 motor highly optimized in its fourth generation. These are all dual 8 Ohm VC so they would offer resistively damped operation if you needed it. They are stadard 12-spoke cast baskets with good parts. I intentionally made these non-flashy designs. They are directly out of the mold of the old Shiva/Tempest (which was our original design goal) which was all business and no goofy marketing gimicks. If you want fuzzy dice on your woofer these are not for you. T/S from a production sample broken-in for 3-4 hours at 50% excursion. Measurements are with VC in parallel. XJ-15 Parameters: Re: 3.95 ohm Qts: 0.578 Qes: 0.673 Qms: 4.095 Fs: 24.5hz mms: 130g cms: .300mm/N BL: 11 Vas: 284L Pmax: Lets say 600W which is conservative. If you thermally fry the thing your doing something very stupid. XJ-15 pictures: There are also XJ-12 12" models available! They have a highish Q of about .9 (system Q, not driver Qts) but in the car that would give you a lot of thump, essentially flat anechoic to 40Hz and with cabin gain that would be insane. Same motor, slightly different parameters. They also look good in 3.5ft^3 tuned to about 20Hz. They would be a good HT sub in that type of enclosure being essentially flat to 30Hz (anechoic) and fall off fairly quick below that point. In-room measurements as a typical company would post they would be good to under 20Hz flat in-room with some good HT excitement in the 30-60hz range. Parameters on the XJ-12 with VCs in parallel (dual 8s). Re: 3.95 fs: 31Hz Qms: 4.35 Qes: .67 Qts: .58 mms: 114g cms: .233 mm/N Vas: 83L BL: 11.4 Eff: 87.7db/1W/1M xmax: 26-27mm one way Pmax: Lets say 600W which is conservative. If you thermally fry the thing your doing something very stupid. Warranty: 1 yr Parts/Labor. Actually if we had a warranty item I'd just replace it or in this case give you credit towards another driver. Since there is a lot of craziness among the car audio crowd. You guys like to blow stuff up.... you know it.... I know it. Items covered/not covered: * A smoldering VC is not a warranty item. * A surround and spider riped from their landings is not a warranty item * A glue joint failure, where there is no damage to the surrounding cone, surround or spider IS a warranty item * anything obvious as a defect, magnet falls off, way off my listed parameters, VC scrapping etc... would be considered warranty. I'd take care of you 100% THERE IS PRETTY GOOD STOCK ON THESE UNITS >50 BUT THEY WONT LAST LONG. THE XJ-12 IS $155.00 INCLUDING SHIPPING IN THE LOWER U.S. AND THE XJ-15 IS $160.00 INCLUDING SHIPPING IN THE LOWER U.S. THESE ARE BASICALLY BRAHMA MOTORS FOR SHIVA PRICES! ALTHOUGH THEY USE XBL AND THE BRAHMA MOTOR THEY WERE NOT BUILT BY ADIRE AND WILL NOT BE SERVICED THROUGH ADIRE SO REST ASSURED. SINCE I DONT EXPECT THESE TO LAST LONG I'M NOT GOING TO PUT THEM ON THE SITE AND LET MY FORUM READERS TAKE ADVANTAGE. CALL ME AT 435-730-4967 AFTER 3:30 MOUNTAIN TIME TO ORDER OR E-MAIL SALES@ACOUSTIC-VISIONS WITH YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION AND I'LL CALL YOU. Of COURSE YOU CAN ORDER VIA PAYPAL ANYTIME AT KYLE@ACOUSTIC-VISIONS.COM AND I'LL SEND YOU A PAYPAL BILL FOR THE SHIPPING AMOUNT WHEN THE EXACT AMOUNT IS KNOWN. 12" and 15" subwoofer blowout

No, thats too small for them but the 12's are not available any longer anyway. Check out the Shiva-X for an alternative selection. Basically the same driver but with slightly different specs to make it a bit more user friendly.

With 250 watts on hand I'd say you are probably fine.

    New Exodus Drivers!

I wouldnt put anything over 600 watts to it continuously. I'm not sure if you are thinking about a pair but these are dual 8 ohm drivers so you can only wire as low as 4 ohm with a single driver (2 ohm for a pair).

    New Exodus Drivers!

I'm pleased to announce the new Exodus Audio Shiva-X and Tempest-X are now available. These are brand new XBL 12" and 15" drivers with 27mm Xmax for the incredible price of $165 and $175. Check out the links below for full details and driver applications. Tempest X specs will be up shortly. Check out the Shiva-X here Check out the Tempest-X here

    Shiva-x and shiva questions

That may be the easiest route to take right now. If you dont have a lot of power pushing the new driver (you didnt mention how much your original sub has) or if you dont push it extremely hard then it may work out great for you. If you find that you are bottoming out the PR then you know that you are at its limits and you either need to turn it down or redesign the enclosure. Here is a link to the Shiva box applications if you havent seen them yet.

    Shiva-x and shiva questions

If it was the EBS design then if I remember correctly it was 142 liters. The new Shiva-X will do VERY well in that size enclosure but I worry about the capability of the PR. If you used the original Adire PR-15 then it was fine with the original Shiva but the new Shiva-X has quite a bit more capability and the PR may not be up to the task. I said "may" in the prior sentence because it all depends on how hard you run the sub. If you arent pushing the limits of the driver then the PR will be fine but if you are running it hard then you have the ability of damaging the PR since it will not provide enough resistance for the new driver. With that being said, you can always try it and see how well it works for you. If you find the PR isnt up to the task then you can always build a new enclosure for the new driver. Yep, I'm the same old Kyle thats been around for a few years now.

    New Exodus Drivers!

The specs for the Tempest-X are: Measured with Praxis @ Sea level, 55deg F with drivers broken-in for 8 hours with 25Hz sine wave. Signal level >2V so a relatively high test signal. Tempest-X Re: 3.65 Le: 0.9mH Fs: 18.4Hz Qms: 3.4 Qes: 0.6 Qts: 0.51 Mms: 200.0g Cms: .37 mm/N Vas: 340L Sd: 806 cm^2 BL: 11.86 I'll be updating the site tomorrow to reflect these numbers. The primary difference is a softer suspension and a different surround. These came in at our original parameters unlike the first batch that we blew out.

    New Exodus Drivers!

Check out the .pdf in the "information library" on the Tempest X page and it will show each of the sealed and ported designs for home audio. If it is for car audio then make changed accordingly.

Any reviews on the CSS SD12?

I've played with both but havent done any head to head testing and it was quite a while between times when I used them. Going from memory, the SD12 performed more like a sound quality driver. Its efficiency wasnt as good as the RLp and it couldnt get as loud but it did sound just a touch better in my opinion. Both are great drivers but they are both designed for different applications as well.

    diy Kits?!?!?!?

Sorry for the slow reply, I forgot I commented yesterday and just checked back today. I will only be carrying the Exodus kits but they will be different from the kits currently listed on the site. The new kits will feature a proprietary 6.5" XBL driver and will use a Peerless tweeter. Also, dont be fooled at just looking at the drivers in the kits because a bad crossover with cheap parts can break a kit using great drivers and a good crossover can substantially increase the price as well. The Exodus kits will not be inexpensive but when compared to pre-manufactured speakers they will blow away anything in their price range or I'd dare say several times their price range as well. If you are after inexpensive kits they PE may be a good place to check out since they have several designs in a variety of price ranges.

    diy Kits?!?!?!?

GR Research has some nice kits you may want to check out. Exodus Audio will be putting out some new kits in the next few months with the 2 way monitor to start the line up and towers to follow. These will have crossovers already prebuilt on PCB's so all you have to do is make the cabinets per plans, install the drivers, and hook up the wires.
