Chevy Cavalier 04 Audio System Build Log

comin along nicely man......how do u like those polk 6x9's? did they come with the crossovers? i traded 3 rusted junk dayton rims 4 a pair. but mine didnt come with the crossovers, and they were in 6x9 box's when i got them so i didnt know the speaker and tweeter had seperate connection. so my tweets popped real quick so i just used the speaker kinda as a midbass. until i smoked one of em and the one i still got i blew the surround loose. if u decide u wanna get rid of em after u get ur mids and comp set installed let me know
  2. so i'd say about 4-6months ago i thought i damaged my RF power hx2 15 and was looking for a recone. it was making a noise like tinsel slap or dustcap rattle. i found a recone w/ coil and suspension upgrade to the team fosgate version. but i built a different box and it stopped makin noises so i thought it was the box. my box is way to big for my current car so i pulled the sub out, put the box in the garage and noticed this befor i put the sub up in the closet btw since its been a blown coil this whole time, the other working coil has been taking an saz1500 at full power...... the reason for the coil issue was i went a lil to hard on the sub when i got the saz1500......and the sub was still brand new so i learned my lesson to break em in first
  3. i agree with notorious on the tuning. 27 is way to low and u wont be happy if its for daily, i've got a single rockford fosgate power hx2 15. my first box was tuned at 30hz, it was to low hit the lows but thats about it. then i was told 40hz would be good for daily w/ my music choice rap hiphop. that was too high so after many hours of googlin i decided on 33hz. 33hz hits the lows awesome, while it also will still hit higher bass notes. also if ur not dead st on the hifonics amp there are better choices out there that will actually do rated power. if price is an issue audiopipe are cheap and do rated power. the ap3000.1d is a huge(long) amp but does rated power at 2ohm, its only 2ohm stable but thats ok for wut ur gonna run. but if price isnt an issue since u gotta save for it anyway i'd go with a sundown for sure. sundowns customer service is better then any other, and there products are top notch.and they actually do more than rated power. if u wanna save some cash on a sundown amp troll the for sale section on here or other forums and get a used one, or check out http://www.db-r.com/sell/store/ ^^^^they are the official repair/refurbish place for sundown. i can vouch they do awesome work, i bought 2 saz1500's blown for $150, sold one for $150 and had them rebuild the other and its just a beast
  4. ok so im hopefully gonna get pix tomorrow and start my new build log. ill also get measurements of my hatch area tomorrow. i've got my 4ft3 box tuned at 33hz in my 93 lx mustang hatch right now and its just to big. it currently sets taking up half my backseat(folded down) and a 1/3 of the hatch area. reason for this is it wont slide back anymore in the hatch area cause the box hits rear window. saz-1500 is temporarely mounted to the backseat right behind front seats. so i need help on how to face my sub and port to get the max. loudness and airflow from my rf power hx2 15 while still being able to use my backseat for its intended purpose. also im set on 33hz for port tuning and currently have a slot port 3"w x 16"ish t (dont remember height). im wanting to go with more port area for more air flow but stay at 33hz. any help will be appreciated thanx
  5. so i've googled everything i could think of with minimal results. so i'm asking you guys anyone know a good place to buy any and all parts needed to build/repair subs at decent prices? and im really looking for the tall arc shaped extended displacement surrounds, prefer rubber but foam will do. also looking for all other parts also. if anyone can help it would be much appreciated
  6. just seen em in jblcamry's geo on smd he said they r "special" only for him and mark from ssa. so wuts up on em' how "special" are they? lol nice dustcaps btw

    theft proofing any tips?

so yesterday i had to move my car so my dads ol lady could get her car out, so i parked in the street so i wasnt blocked in when she got back. so i'd say an hour or so later my dad comes in my room told me to go check my car cuz 2 banger lookin mexicans had a cd case, and they started power walking when he walked outside. so i grab the pistol and keys and run out there, my stereo was halfway out the dash(impossible to get the stereo out with the car in park), stereo face is off in the floor, shits pilferred thru. so i take off chasin em' cuz they had just made it around the corner at this point. the younger pudgy one didnt fuck with the car and bout pissed himself when he seen the gun, but his buddy i'd say he's around 18, tall, skinny. but this lil pucker was the fastest running person i ever seen. im in a car he's on foot i chase him 2 blocks into a resteraunt parking lot and he went down an alley i couldnt fit thru. so i kept goin slid sideways out of the parking lot and right around the corner and this dude was gone. i caught back up to his buddy and followed him for 20+ blocks an said fuck it. .... i gotta say hes a ballsy pucker tho, jackin in the middle of the day but stupid. he grabbed a cd case and tried for a $50 h/u. instead of the saz1500 thats setting right behind the front seats on the folded down backseat with the single 15n big ass box... so needless to say my top priority is securing the h/u in, mounting the amp real secure, figuring out a box design where it fits stealthly in my hatch area, and tintin the windows. and saving up for an alarm. so any one got any good theft deterrent ideas?

    theft proofing any tips?

didnt plan on shootin the prick brought it #1 just incase i needed to protect myself #2 if i woulda caught up to him he damn sure woulda dropped/gave back wutever he had once he seen it. if that didnt work a warning shot would have..... so im in the process of designing my "stealth" box while im waiting on my moms b/f to bring me sum of the 25+ sheets of 1.5" mdf his buddy at work told him he could have. it'll still be 3.5-4 ft3 after displacements ported @ 33hz. subs will face up, not sure if i should go port up or back. suggestions?? but box will be glued and screwed to a piece of 3/4" mdf thats bolted to the car. plus a 3/4" plexi case with fans bolted sumwhere for the saz-1500. still working out securing the h/u. its not a big concern tho cause as long as the cars in park its impossible to get it out. even breaking the dash wont work cause its steel all around it
  11. i wish i had 4 or could find more of these subs cause i'd be walled off with a quickness lol.....re box calc is the closest one to being right ive found and from reading on several forums. except the torres calc but i get confused and frustrated tryin to figure it out and give up on it.....but no rear deck just open hatch area. im thinkin sub up port up and use the whole cargo area to keep the box height to a minimum so i can use a cargo area cover so nothing can be seen. cause the way it is right now even if i had tinted window just looking thru the windshield all u see past the front seats is a big ass sub and box saying "STEAL ME"!!!

    theft proofing any tips?

i normally bring the faceplate inside but i was waitin on my ol lady to get home so we could leave. cd case had all b.s cd's except my autographed tech n9ne cd. drivers door i always lock but the passenger one i just finally figured out is the lock actuator is seized up. so i gotta hit up pull-a-part. i've got 4 full grown pitbulls in the back yardand one of them is partially at the very front of our driveway guarding my dads drag truck in the garage. but when theres 5 vehicles that park in the driveway it sucks parking up front where its safe especially when ur in a hurry to leave

    15inch memphis mojo vs fi???

whats ur box looking like? the box is a key item to ur system it will make it or break it. id stick with the mojo cause its a good sub with major potential. i'd save up money n sale the hifonics and get a better amp, saz-1500 or a saz-2500 sundown is a major step up from hifonics. and upgrade electrical

    cheap sub parts supplier

like i've already stated imma do my research, not say hmm i want this this and this slap it together still have a paperweight. i looked up the nca labs duran mentioned and there website says they can make/get wutever u need. so y couldnt i get identical parts from them that were in the blown sub? btw its also not like im startin this right away, its an idea of sumthing i would like to learn. like duran said it'll take alot of studying. i can do anything i set my mind to it just takes times

    cheap sub parts supplier

ill figure that out when i get that deep into this. i figure ill start with building my own recones first and as i progress and do my research move on to building hybrids then eventually hopefully my own subs. see theres noone ive found here that repairs subs theres plenty of places that fix amps but no sub repair except refoams n thats bout it. so i figure why not learn and start making custom recones and make bank reconing for ppl and buying blown subs for pennies and recone and resale

    Saw this today..

hell i see shit like that in oklahoma city all the time.....lol....sometimes u gotta do wut u gotta do to have sound. hell in my 76 caprice i was broke and dint have enough wire layin around to run to the back. so i had 4 cheap 6x9's kinda cluster f'd between my front seats lol. that whole install was ghetto custom. the new install im working on will be done right tho, i actually have memphis coaxials in my doors and polk 3.5s in the dash. first time ive had decent speakers in the locations they r supposed to be lol. that rear window IB setup is hillarious wish i could find the pic
  22. thats whats up...33hz is the best tuning for daily beating in my oppinion hits the low lows and still hasgood higher freq. response
  23. holy sheeeet!! i just really noticed the setup and must say i approve lol. and that port is huge whats it tuned at?

SPL: more Port Area or lower Port Mach?????

ur using a dd sub whats dd's philosophy on ports? "You need more port area for a clean sounding, high output system. The DD port formula is this: 16 sqin of port area per cubic foot of box volume. The port should be 16 inches long. Remember, the port is tuned to the box volume, not the sub(s). This formula was derived from 1000s of hours of in-car testing and 1000s of installs. It works. It takes into account the need for increasing port area for increasing cone area. When combined with our DD subwoofer box requirements, you'll end up with the perfect match." also "The use of a larger than normal port will allow the user to find the cars peak frequency for greatest SPL" http://www.ddaudio.com/caraudio/enclosureInfo/portInfo.htm seeing as i live in the town where dd is based i've seen a few dd installs and even on simple installs the bigger the port the more it amazed me
