    JBL Midrange Blown

I made a rookie mistake by playing with the different settings on my HU while playing at a high level. In the past the woofers on the set will make a harsh popping sound if pushed too far. When I accidently hit a setting in my HU it increased the bass and the woofer made a popping sound and immediately stopped playing after.

    JBL Midrange Blown

As the subject says I have blown one of my JBL mids. Does anyone know if I could by just the mids or possibly send the one I blew back to JBL for a repair. I have never delt with JBL so I don't know if they ever offer something like that. I am very pleased with the mids and don't feel like replacing the complete component system.

    JBL Midrange Blown

As a follow up while I was returning home yesterday the speaker that I though was damaged began playing again. Is it possible that I pushed it past its mechanical limit and it became stuck? I plan on taking it out this week to inspect it for damage, however it sounds perfectly fine.

I plan on doing that tomorrow. It happen this afternoon after work. Just putting the word out now to see if anyone else has either delt with JBL or would know of a place where I can buy just the woofer from the component set.

    My SA-8 install

Well I sold my two D4 SA-8's this weekend. My original plan was to stay with the two SA-8 but move to D2 coils to run my saz-1500 at 1/2 ohm. My buddy already has one D2 SA-8 left over since he moved up to a nightshade 12. However, I recently got to thinking of maybe doing a single 10 under my rear seat or possibly two SA-8 or a single SA-10 or SA-12 in a ported down fired center console box. I am more partial to the ported downfired center console box because there is alot of wasted space in my truck there, but I have never personally had a down fired box. Anybody out there have any experience with this type of box? Also, I considered a single 10 under the seat thinking if I had more airspace per woofer it may be louder but I am think logically since there is less cone area it shouldn't be as loud as the dual 8's. Should I just stick with the dual 8's or do you guys think any of the other options would be louder.

    My SA-8 install

Well I was part of the pre-order and been having all my equipment for a while. I installed it about two months ago and I'm just getting a chance to post some pictures. I am not completely satisfied with the box. I wanted to get something made quickly so the woofers weren't just sitting around. I had a local box builder build it and he built it to fit under the seat. I told him I want the optimal box so if I needed I could raise the seat but I guess he figured he would work with what I already had. My buddy has two of these on the same set-up and his box is almost twice as loud. My box size is .667 cu ft w/o the woofer displacement (i didn't know it) with a port size of 1.5" tall x 5" wide x 14" deep. I think his box is some where around 1.0 cu ft a piece. Regardless of the box I am very pleased with the speakers and amp. Amp Rack with SAZ1500, Soundstream 4.920, and JBL C608C GTI MKII Crossovers

    My SA-8 install

I know some of you guys mentioned I should have more port area for these subs. I tried my buddies box in my truck today and the subs have alot more output at lower frequencies. As I said his box is 1.0 ft^3 per sub and his port is 3"tall by 12"wide i'll have to ask again about the length. I was looking to see if I can modify the box that I have now and I though about cutting a block to close up the port now and using aero ports in the side of the box. Do you guys think this would be a good idea?

    My SA-8 install

Thanks demin and Cablguy! I love the soundstream. They look really in person! I used to have an old school rubicon and was very weary about buying a new soundstream since the sold out. I did alot of reading from others that had bought the new references and they only had good things to say. My only complaint about it and I'm still not sure it is the amp or another part of the system but they is a small amount of hiss when the volume is really low or muted.

    My SA-8 install

Soapbox what is your net volume per sub? and port area and length? Steave I have my subsonic filter on. Probably at about 35-40 Hz. I started to play around with a box caclulator from basic car audio eletronics (www.bcae1.com). The program firgures that I need about 20 sq in of port area and ~40in of length for a tune at 32 hz. This doesn't seem right to me. What calculator do most of you guys use for your boxes?

    My SA-8 install

I'm definately looking for suggestions. It just seems that there isn't much output before the speakers begin to bottom out.

    My SA-8 install

Thanks Guys!! Stevemead it is a Dark Silver 08 Crew Cab. SPL_Man I don't plan on keeping that box for long. Compared to my buddies box that is about 1.0 cu ft per sub this box is only about half as loud.

    Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale

Not trying to change the subject. But is there a advantage/disadvantage to using a common chamber? I did a search for it and didn't find much. If this has been discussed could you please point me in the right direction. Thanks

    Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale

Anyone that pre-ordered these subs have you gotten a confirmation back from anyone at sundown that your order has been recieved? I ordered two last week and have not heard anything back from them.

    Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale

    Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale

Okay I'm no longer shopping for subs but I need help deciding what voice coil to go with and what amp to power them? I will be putting them in a ported enclosure around 1.0 cu ft. I would like to go with a sundown amp being that I have only read good things about their products. Can the sundown amps run at 1/2 ohm regularly or would it be safer just to do 2 ohm? Also it would be an added bonus to be able to find one used as I still have to buy a new navi head unit, mids and mid amp and sound deading all for about $3000. Thanks in advance guys!!!

    Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale

I was wondering if the pre-sale of these subs is still going on? I would like to do two 8's in a ported enclosure under ther rear seat of my 08 Crew Cab Sierra. I was going to do two RL-i but am being told I will need about 1.5 to 2 cu. ft. gross to make an optimal box. And from what I have seen most people are only getting about .75 - 1.0 cu ft. Do you know the recommended size enclosure for these subs? Would you recommend these subs for what I am wanting to do?

    Hello from Cajun Country

Hello All, I was an installer at a local shop back when I was in high school. We sold mostly JL audio, Audiobahn, JVC, Power Acoustic and a few others I forgot. I am glad I found the site it seems they have more of an informative group here compared to some of the other forums related to this subject. I want to get back in to car audio because I have always enjoyed it and also I just purchased two new vehicles. My first project is my truck. I have a 08 GMC Crew Cab Sierra 1500. I'm looking to spend about 3000 but could possible spend more depending on how big each hit will be! I listen to all types of music but mostly rock, some rap and occasionally country. I like powerful good sounding bass. I also like having a stereo that surprises most. (i.e. using small woofers to make big sound) What I am thinking: Enclosure: I would like to keep the truck fully functional meaning not removing the back seat or putting anything in the bed. So I know my options are limited to a center console option or under the rear seat. I'm leaning for under the rear seat but have never been impressed by down fire boxes. I think the reason for this is because they are almost always sealed. So my first question is has anyone heard a down firing vented enclosure? Also I was thinking of going with subthump boxes. Can anyone testify to their build quality? I have the knowhow and equipment to build my own as I have done in the past but with a family my time is pretty limited. Subs: If no one has negative opinions of a ported down fire box I was planning on using two 8"s. The down fire enclosure for the truck offers about .85 cu ft. per chamber so I thinking this is enough to do the following subs ported. RL-i JL 8W3 Amps: Sundown Arc Audio JL HU: Looking for a double din, NAV, DVD, Dual Zone, Bluetooth, and fast user friendly I-pod control Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT Kenwood DNX9140 So far this is what I have come up with. I am open to opinions or suggestions. Time to be a sponge and soak up what the site has to offer!!

    Hello from Cajun Country

Thanks for all the greetings fellas! 02Lincoln-LS I recently started thinking about doing a couple of 10's but I am still wanting to do a ported downfire so i'm not sure if there will be enough airspace. I have still yet to hear from anyone on how they think this may sound. Also I had a couple of 8's before and was pleased with them. Another point is if I get high powered 10's it is just a bigger amp and more money. ecromeans I'm thinking of at least lowering the rear to match the front. Not sure if I want to lower the entire truck just yet! Do you sell the kits??

I'm sorry this may be a little off topic to the title of the post but I was discusses a little in the tread. I used to own a soundstream amp and was very pleased with it. I am just begining to get back into car audio with a build for my new truck. I looked at soundstream a while back for another project and I guess it was just after they had gotten bought out. I was upset to see thier products go from looking well made to flashy chrome cheap looking amps. I was under the impression they decided to put more imphasis on marketing instead of producing good quality products. I just visited their site and it looks like they are going back to the old school style as far as the rubicon and reference lines go. I'm wondering how has their quality been through out the years from the old school amps? Can anyone speak for the new reference and rubicon series? The new amps look decent and aren't very flashy. Also how would they compare to a sundown in terms of quality, which seems to have a very good reputation among the forums?
