  1. Just wondering which one is better or are they about the same in performance?

You will get more instantaneous power out of a XS power battery than the yellow tops. The 1200 is physically much smaller than the 1200.

  2. Any truth to the saying that mixing batteries will cause them to discharge one another?

More specifically, I have an Optima red top under hood and 3 yellow tops in back. I want to replace the yellow tops with one large XS battery in back to clean up my install. Will this cause ill effects to the red top or to the XS?

Thank you for clearing up the AH crap. That is the one specification that is tossed around like the gospel and I appreciate someone telling it like it is. :drink40: That said, what specifications are most important when looking for batteries we use in car audio.

Yes, there is some truth to mixing the batteries. We do not recommend mixing batteries with different chemistry make up. For instance in your case our batteries have a different chemistry make up than the optimas, and over time the bigger XS Power battery will drain the smaller optima.

  3. Just wondering, why is the d6500 not offered at the SSA store? Or anywhere else on the internet? How much do they go for?

It may not be listed in the SSA Store but it is offered through the store. It is a newer battery for us, so a lot of places do not have it listed. Usually around $289-$330. Just ask denim about it.

  4. Send me a VCM Controller and a D3100 on your dime and I will post one up really fast for you. lol

Seriously, I have been looking for some reviews of the VCM. I really want that. Do you have a link to some reviews? Also been thinking real hard of an upgrade to the 3100 to have only one bat vs the 3 Optimas YT I have now in back.

Sorry I cant help you, maybe soon.

CACO and SMD have a lot of reviews on them.

  5. Just wondering how much height does an i-bar and the short posts add to the batteries? I'm thinking of upgrading to a 3400 under the hood but I'm worried about clearance issues with the top.

Sorry for the delay on the response. With the Ibar and small posts you are looking at around 8.25" tall for the S3400 (from bottom to top of post).

  6. I was wondering was there any big difference in charging a 16v batt. at 14v. I was thinking of buyign some 16v batteries, but I was making sure there wouldnt be any problem chaging them.

16V batteries need to charge at 19+ volts (19.5V MAX for XS Power 16V Batteries), so charging at 14V wouldn't do anything for them. You would need to either use a charger (XSPower 1004 IntelliCharger (16V only) XSPower 1005 IntelliCharger (12V and 16V option), or have a alternator capable of charging at 19.5V.

  7. You DA Man, Nathan.

Can you expain a little more about internal pressures and why secondary batterys product more Watts?

Secondary batteries provide more power, because they are not being used to provide power to operate the vehicle.

When you hook to batteries up together it optimizes the internal pressure of the battery which in turn allows the batteries to produce more power individually.

  8. About to start a build with 4 of the sundown 2500 when they are available what batterries would you recommend and how many. going to be running a 200amp alt. running between 14 and 16 volts.

When you say running between 14 and 16 volts are you talking about the alternator? You shouldn't charge our 12v batteries over 14.9volts.

How many watts total are you going to be running? What are you going to be using it for spl, daily driver, etc....?

Total power I am guess will be at least 10000 wats, it will be mainly for spl but I will drive it occasionally. The alt. will have a external regulator that will be adjustable up to 16v so that s what they told me. But I am just trying to see what I need to sustain the amps at a good voltage for bass race, bass boxing, etc.

For the top performance I would recommend 4 D3100s, but you could probably get by with 3. If you are running at 10,000watts then you have about a 1,000amps of pull and the alternator is only going to put out 200amps of charge, so you need plenty of reserve power in your battery bank. Your voltage is going to drop some, but not much with 4 D3100s.

  10. All of the S version of the batteries come with brass automotive terminals. All of the S versions also come with metal protective cases (EXCEPT FOR THE S3400) for added under the hood protection. The S3400 DOES NOT come with a metal protective case.

The D version batteries do not come with auto terminals, but they do come with the bolts and washer to use with ring terminals. Automotive terminals can be purchased separately (part number # 580 or 586) for these versions.

So, if you are going to use the battery under the hood I would suggest buying the S version, but if you are going to use it as a secondary battery the D version would be more economical.
