    SA 12's and box/amp size

Ok, should have my tax check here next friday...woot woot. I will be ordering 2 12" SA's and was wondering if this box and amp will work. Was getting a design done for 3.5cuft @ 30hz and will be running a Rockford Fosgate T1000.1 (the new mini black one) The amp says 1250 @ 1ohm I might upgrade the amp later...but this is what I have now. I know I will be using 2 4" aero ports (not sure on lenth..the designer is still designing, lol) Just curious as to what to expect. I had 2 JL w3 12s on this amp at 2ohms (800 watts) with a 3.5cuft @ 32hz box. They were in my former Explorer. I now have a 08 Civic SI coupe....just trying to get some comparisons. Or just an idea of what to expect. Also...I am torn between facing the box into the cabin or toward the trunk. I have watched videos of both.... it has been forever since I had a trunk so any experienced people the advice would be nice. I will ofcourse move the box around to see for myself....but just wanted to see if there were anybody out there with some first hand knowledge.

    Question on SA-12's

Thanks for the info. Might I ask what the difference would be going from 3.5 to 4 cu ft? And also, what would I hear different moving from say 32hz to 33hz or maybe down to 30hz? I currently have a box 3.5 @ 32hz but need to rebuild it for a different vehicle. Does a bigger box need less power from the amp? Say I have 1250 watts on the 3.5 cu ft box. Would I hear an increased output taking that same amp to a larger box? Nothing audible to your ear! Ok if I cant hear it, I assume I would feel it? How much difference would it be...

    Question on SA-12's

Ok, just bought a new car and my ported box does not fit. So I need to make a new one. I have a 2008 Civic SI coupe. What I am wondering is speaker/port placement. I am use to SUV's and sub up / port back. I have read with a trunk that sub back / port back is the way to go. Just asking to make sure before I buy the material and build this box. Also, I see that SA 12's are 1.5 to 2.0 for ported boxes. With 1.75 being on there spec sheet. I have 1250 watts to push 2 12's and was wondering. Would it be better to go 1.5 / 1.75 / or 2? And what hz would you recommend? Currently the box I have is 3.5 @ 32hz and sounds ok with JL 12w3's in it. I am playing 70% rap/bass cd and 30% rock/metal right now. Should I stay at 32 or would there be a better hz to shoot for? I plan on selling the JL 12's with ported box soon and buying the SA 12's. Going to make the box hopefully in the next couple weeks.

    Question on SA-12's

I should add. I like LOTS of bass. I am not looking at winning any SPL contests. I want to feel/hear it. Right now the JL's can rattle my eyeballs a little at 800watts. With the SA's I will be able to go to 1ohm and get the amp to 1250. I know it is probably far fetched, but I want to get on the path of the hairtrick! lol....anyway. Thanks for any help!

Subs/Box for 08 Civic SI coupe

My current box was made for my former Explorer. Subs up / port back. The main issue is that box is 20" height and will not fit in the trunk without tearing out the trunk bars and the stock sub. I wanted to build a wider box that is not as high and just disconnect the stock sub, but leave it in its location for resale later down the road. I like the subs..dont get me wrong. They sound good for what I paid, however I got 2 2ohm DVC subs. I can only manage to get the amp to see a 2ohm load. If I buy the SA 12's I will get the DVC 4 ohm version so I can wire them to 1ohm and draw more power from the amp. Figure sell the box/subs and buy the SA 12's. Maybe have to bring a little extra cash to buy them, but should not be too much. Also, what should I build the box too. Subs up / port back or subs back / port back? Or another way? I have not had a trunk in some time, so not sure.
  9. Hello everyone! Was wondering if people could help me. I currently have the following... 2 12" JL Audio W3v2 2ohm 1 Rockford Fosgate T1000.1BD I built a 3.5 cu/in ported box for them and they sound fine. Problem is the box is the wrong dimensions for the 2008 Civic Si Coupe. My current available space is.. H = 15" W = 37" D = 18" preferably smaller Those are the MAX dimensions that will fit in my trunk. I am not worried about the opening to the truck as I will build the box in the trunk if I have too. What I am wondering is if anyone has a box build that would work for the SA 12's that would work for my Civic. Just need the outside box dimensions and port dimensions and I can build it. I am not very good with design, but I can build a solid box. Also, I have an Optima Yellow top in the engine bay and will be doing the big 3 upgrade prior to my audio install with 1/0 guage wiring. I also plan on buying a new alternator to balance the charging system. My amplifier currently is rated at 1250 watts RMS into 1 ohm. I think that would be a nice fit with the SA12's being 600rms each. I am not looking for SPL competition stuff....I want loud/clean comprimise. With my amp, what size box should I run? Is 3.5 air space optimal with my wattage available? Also what should I tune the box too. Currently my ported box is at 32hz. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have everything except the SA12's currently. But the JL 12w3's recommend the same 1.75 air space so I can build everything in preparation on getting SA12's in the near future.....(tax time!!!). If it helps I listen to rap, rock, metal, and bass music mainly. Think Eazy E, Too Short, Pantera, Metallica, and Dj Magic Mike or Dj Fury mainly. I know...wide variety, lol. I have a 4v preout Alpine deck CDA9887 I think it is 2 sets of Boston Acoustic 6.5" components 1 Rockford Fosgate T600.4 amp
