    Just ordered a new toy!

Just put in an order for the Boston GTA-1000M amp (not from SSA though ). This will be wired to two Dayton RSS265HO subs. I picked up two of those bnib for $110 shipped! For speakers, I will be using the Aura 6.5" comps and for power will be Aura RPM2150, both bought from parts express on their blowout sale. All I need is a deck and some wiring and I am good to go. I will start this build in May sometime when I get home from school. All this will be going in my chevy S-10 extended cab. No SSA equipment in this build, but I had deals on all this I just couldn't pass up!!

    whos ready for the SA-8v2

This might be some of the worst display of grammar I have ever seen, and longest run-on sentance ever!! Your goals and plans for this system is exactly what gives this hobby a bad rep.

Skar Audio Off Topic Amplifier Questions

Moofs said in another thread that he had also asked Kevin similar questions several times and never received a response. I suppose given the fact Kevin originally deleted my post shortly after I posted it (and he is not the one who restored it), that he doesn't intend to give an answer. I thought the answers would have been pretty easy to provide. Guess I was wrong and he was instead trying to hide the fact I even asked by deleting my post? Just more reason to not support skar.
  4. I have been looking for differant deals to pop up for an amplifier for my next build. For power, I am looking for something close to 1kw at 2 ohm, doesn't have to be exact. The sundown sax-1200d has been an option for me from the beginning. Recently, I noticed that the Stetsom V 1K5 is on sale for pretty close to the same price as the sax-1200d. After alot of research, it appears to me that stetsom amplifiers are pretty good, reliable etc... As far as customer service, I'm sure that sundown would win that category. Either of these two amplifiers would be at the top of my budget. Would I lose anything by going with the Stetsom V 1K5? I know it is capable of a little more power output and I like the smaller size of it, but that is irrelevant if the thing blows up in a year or so and I am unable to get any service for it. Would the Stetsom V 1K5 be a reliable amp? I already know that sundown is I am currently running their gear. I am just looking for a little more information about stetsom I guess. Thanks

    Sundown or Stetsom

What sort of bashing is going on about stetsom amplifiers? And I do love me some sundown, but I don't mind trying something differant either. The subs I will be running are Dayton RSS265-4 HO. I know, not the typical woofers used here. I also know that they wont handle huge power and I don't intend on running much more then 300 watts to each on in this install. I just like overhead and I tend to buy equipment with the intent to upgrade later on. Do I need the large output amps? No not at all, but I don't mind spending a little more and just gaining down the amp. So this thread is purely for thoughts about stetsom. Are they reliable? Do they do rated? etc.. And ya, Sundown FTW!!! but still...

    Blown or damaged woofer?

Hey fellas. My brother called me up yesterday saying his subwoofer was making a funny buzzing noise. The woofer resides in a sealed box we made for his truck (custom console). He said that he hadn't driven his truck in about 3 weeks, and when he had driven it last it hadn't made any noises. I was there when we installed about a year ago, and it sounded wonderful actually. The woofer in question is a IA Death Row, wired to 1-ohm. Since I live a few states over, I had him take the woofer out of the box and put a meter on the coils. Both of the coils read fine as they would brand new. I told him to press on the cone to see if he could hear/feel any rubbing. He said no, it was smooth. We then went on to play a little free air and he made a video of it. This was done with very low volume and the woofer barely moving, and there was a god awful rattle noise to it. The cone hadn't have been moving more then 4-5mm. I can post the video if you guys want, but could the woofer really be damaged with both coils reading fine, no rubbing or noise when pressing on the cone (moving more then it was when free-airing it). The power wouldn't be much more than 500 watts I would say at most. This is hooked up to a rockford p1000-1bd. He doesn't ever play it loud or anything in his truck. So I find this an interesting problem, especially since the last time he drove and parked his truck it was just fine. What are all your thoughts on this?

    Blown or damaged woofer?

Ya, I had it for about 6 months then moved to an xcon. I gave it as well as my old amp to my brother for his truck. He said that the last time he had listened to it it was just fine. The other morning he had got in truck and it was pretty cold out, went to the store to get wood and noticed the rattling sound from the sub. So not sure what happened from when he parked it to now, but something did. I just want to rule stuff out before it is decided to get a recone for it.

    Blown or damaged woofer?

Would he really have to remove the dust cap to fix it? Or could he just run another bead of adhesive around the outside. I know the latter option has the potential to come out looking like ass. But it makes me nervous for him to also have to cut and remove the dust cap.

    Blown or damaged woofer?

I shoud also say the rattle only happens at higher frequencies during the free-air. When playing lower frequency bass or tones the rattle doesn't happen. So is this really a sign of dust cap being lose or a small air leak in it?

im about to get my wisdon teeth pulled, any tips??

I got all 4 of mine pulled/cut out 2 weeks ago. They give you pain killers and such. Just change out gauze (spelling) every once in a while, take the pills on the schedule they give. Avoid hard foods and do not use straws. I was good to go in 3 days with only my jaw hurting in the mornings. Just follow their advice and instructions to avoid dry socket and you will be fine

    please share your thoughts

Based on the info the OP gave, recommending 1500 watt amp for the SA-12 in the ported box probably isn't the best recommendation. Will it work, be loud, and be in budget? Yes. However, the OP wishes to not drown out his mids with over-bearing bass, but rather would have a good fill in his car. Hence him asking about a sealed box. Maybe space is concern for him too? So to the OP, maybe give some more information about the space you are willing to give up, what music you listen too, etc... Then some more folks will chime in and give you some helpful information, instead of "wire this bitch to this bitch and it will get this bitchen loud" Sorry about the rant...and no offense intended to 97T5WAGON

    Orphan 8's

Are the Orphan 8's still available? I read through the original thread multiple times and didn't see any info on ordering, and noticed that they aren't available through SSA store. Just wondering if they are still available or not? Thanks, Tony

Do we need to go directly to Mike for them then? I have the itch to order some and was curious

    deathrows in a sealed enclosure?

My brother and I installed a DR 12 in his truck in a sealed box. It is in about 1.3 cu. ft center console box and it sounds just fine to me. I liked how it sounded just as much if not more then when I had it ported in my car. I would not hesitate to run them sealed if you do not have the proper space for a ported box.

    uber budget speaker find

Just thought I would post up a link to some aura sound buy-outs just in case people may have not seen them. The components should be decent especially considering the price. I have personally never had bad experiences with aura gear, but haven't really used alot of it either. They also have some nice priced amps too. I ordered 4x6, 6.5 coax, and 6.5 comp. Won't be able to give a review however, as they will be shipped to my brothers house in another state. Here is the link: aura sound Tony Nelson

    This Ship Has Sailed!

I had the pleasure of hearing a RL-p18 in a HT setup. It was the sub bass I have heard so far. That set the benchmark for me and I always have wanted one since then. I should give a few of the orphans a new home. It is sad to see this great company go, and I wish you luck moving foward!! SoundSplinter FTW!!!!

Differances between FI x10 and Dcon 10

I haven't modeled them yet. Just looking at the specs, the dcon should be louder off of the same power, assuming they will be in there within power limits. The output of either driver isn't as much of a concern as the sound quality of the drivers. I don't mind giving up some spl for better sound. I know what to expect in terms of output from 2 10's and it will be plenty of bass for this install. Again, this won't be a SQ install, just looking at drivers that are more SQ oriented. edouble: Have you personally heard the daytons in an install?
  20. I have narrowed my selection down to the dayton rss woofers and either the Fi x10 or dcon 10. I would just like to know what the differances between the Fi and x would be? I know the Fi is rated a little higher power handling but that is really not important to me. I have heard the dcon is a pretty good SQ driver, is the X also? I'm not concerned with which will be louder, because I think these two 10's would be pretty close. Also would like to know if they would play up to around 80hz or so without rolling off real quickly. Anyone with any insight to these two woofers your comments would be appreciated. Tony Nelson

Differances between FI x10 and Dcon 10

Ya, I have always wanted to try the Daytons in a vehicle. I have heard the 12" HF versions in a home audio setup, and man they sound good! I think it is between the dayton's and the dcons right now. I have xcon in my car and I really like how it sounds, so that's why I am tempted to try the dcons. SSA makes a great product and have oustanding customer service. It's just a tough decision with this one. Really want to try to use three 10's in this install, but might end up using only 2. I just haven't been able to find a whole lot of info on the daytons. There are a few people running them on DIYMA, but thats about it. I'm just not sure if the dcon has the same type of sound as the daytons do. Everything I have heard says they have excellent SQ and can get decently loud, which seems to be the trait of all SSA woofers. I know my xcon does.

Differances between FI x10 and Dcon 10

Thanks everyone for the reply. Nick, you were helpful again as always. I know that whichever route I go it will all sound good. Dcon, X, or Dayton. Maybe I will just save a little money and pick either dcon or x. Decisions decisions.

    X series woofers

I am just curious how similiar the new X woofers are to the black friday x woofers from a few years ago? I had a black friday woofer in both a sealed and ported box, both optimal, and neither produced the bass I was looking for. By no means did it sound bad, both sounded quite good, just not tight enough of a sound. I was just wondering how, if any, the new X's compare to the older black friday X woofers?
