    need some help choosing 10s

With that amount space, you could get 3 of the mach 5 IXL-10 BR's and run them ported. The recommended space is only 0.4 cu. ft. three of those would be impressive

LI-12 or SA-12? which one better for me?

I would love to do an icon. I know that will be a crap ton of bass too, its just hard to guage without ever hearing these woofers or a system much larger then mine actually. Another question....are the icons shipping with the new cone? I just saw in a new build thread, (maybe stafan's?) that they had the look of an xcon. Are they all shipping like that? Also, my amp has a fixed SSF at 28hz. So I will probably tune the box at 28-30hz. but how high could I go before I would run into problems?
  3. Hey guys. I'm still haven't decided on subwoofer upgrades. I was recommended to go with an XCON in my last thread, which it seems everyone here likes them alot. I would only have about 1000-1200 watts to play with, on a good day, So my question would be whether or not the XCON is better for me over an ICON, with that amount of power. I have room to run the SSA small ported XCON 12 enclosure, and could run the optimum ICON enclosure I think. Would I hear a differance in the xcon vs icon in terms of output with that much power? Would it be worth the extra $100 to get the xcon over the icon?

which subs to go with need help

How would those woofers compare to each other? they cost the same and have same power rating?

XCON worth extra $100 in my case?

Just to throw another into the mix....How are the death rows? Are they an SPL or SQ or somewhere in the middle oriented sub? I can't seem to find much info on the death rows in the forums, and there aren't any published specs on the IA woofers. How would they match up SQ wise to an Icon or xcon? What other woofers are comparible to a death row?

XCON worth extra $100 in my case?

I did find the box plans in their technical page. Really detailed designs. I have built many boxes for home audio. I am not worried about building boxes. I am worried about the way it will sound. I enjoy the sound of a sealed box, not because it is "tighter" or anything, that depends on install and woofer, but because I like the flatter response. The thing I worry about a ported box with a high power woofer is that I will definately over power the rest of my system. The f3 is much lower then a sealed box, which all of you know I am sure, and taking into acount cabin gain, that could lead to very strong bass from 30-50 hz or whatever. Which I guess isn't bad, and it is definately nice when one is trying to pound their brains out. I am just not quite sure if I want that type of sound all the time in my car. I know ported applications can sound very musical and detailed, I just am unsure right now.

XCON worth extra $100 in my case?

I really think I will be happy with whatever I choose, I just don't know what to expect to hear because I haven't ever heard these woofers, or any woofers that aren't mainstream other then an elemental designs e3.12 woofer. I build a ported box for a friend for that e3.12 woofer, and it surprised the hell out of me with its output for a woofer only costing $125. I also do have an Fi audio X12 that I bought on black friday for $65 dollars, that I put in the seal box my boston was in and that suprised me also. I wasn't quite as loud or as clean as my boston, but it did hit a little lower. So I am sure and Icon would blow me away, or any woofer offered at this site for that matter.

XCON worth extra $100 in my case?

Ok. Thanks guys for this discussion. I think the xcon is out of the picture for now. I just need to decide whether or not to run two woofers. I could get two lethal injections or sa-12's too, and still be in my budget. I just haven't ever ran a ported woofer in my car before, and I am very curious to build one. Which then I would probably go with the one Icon. too many options...

XCON worth extra $100 in my case?

I'm not worried about blowing a woofer, I never have before. I really don't crank my systems that hard all the time, just once in a while . I set my gains with dmm's, and now I have access to O-scopes so I will be able to see exactly where my amp clips. It is a RF P1000-1BD, if that matters or means anything. I got it for $230 brand new so it was a good deal.

XCON worth extra $100 in my case?

I have thought about that, if I ever wanted to upgrade and such. I would need to upgrade electrical big time though, as it is stock now. I will do the big 3 sometime this summer. My goal is to just get louder then my current Boston Acoustic G5 12. I think it sounds pretty clear, but I do not have anything to base that off, as I have ever really heard anything but mainstream woofers except in the Home Audio world. It is also sealed. So I guess my goal would be loud and clear, because it won't be true SQ setup and ""SQL"" doesn't exist right . I just don't have the money to "buy something and try it out and see if you like it." So I want to try to narrow things down as best as possible before I buy something.

XCON worth extra $100 in my case?

Well, I have about a 400 dollar cap to spend on woofers. I could go with 2 10's, 2 sealed 12's, or one big 12 ported. Would there be any differance between and xcon and an icon with 1000 watts available? If there is and I would notice, then I could get the xcon. But if not, other then saying I have an xcon I wouldn't be gaining anything.

    Daber Audio vs Dayton Audio?

I see I see. Good catch. Thanks for the link

    Daber Audio vs Dayton Audio?

I was just looking at the ""SQL"" line again, and noticed how similiar they look to Dayton Audio Reference Subwoofers. I went to look up specs on the Dayton's and realized how similiar your specs are with their High Output series of Referance woofers. Almost Identical. I was just curious thats all.
  14. How would two Lethal Injections 12's compare to two SA-12's in terms of output ability and sound quality. Both sealed and each sub running off 500-600 watts? No one can tell you since it is all install dependent, the only way to tell is both both pairs and test them then share with us your review. Ok. I can see how if one was running ported boxes, it would be more install dependent. But if they were in there recommended sealed boxes, how would they do? And I'm sure im gonna get the same response so lets here it.
  15. Currently I have a Boston Acoustics G512-44 on a Rockford P1000-1bd. I have it sealed, running at 2-ohm, I like the way it sounds. I listen to mostly rock/rap, with the occasional classic rock and R&B. My goals are to have more output, but still keep accuracy. I really enjoy a tight double bass, and love the deep bass from rap. My G5 plays double bass really good, and hits lows alright. I know I could build a ported box and try that first, but I would like to try something new. Height wise, I cannot fit a 15 inch sub into my trunk, but do have quite a bit of room in there. I would like to stay sealed box, and maybe run two 12's or something. What would be your recommendations or thoughts? My budget would be around $4-500. I have been looking at Lethal Injections, or SA-12's, SSD's, Mach 5 IXL's. There is just so many options, I don't know which way to go. What would match up the best in a sealed box, with around 1000 watts for one woofer, or 500 for two woofers? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  17. How is the Xcon musically? I need it to blend with the whole system when I'm not slammin it, which I know it will do that. Isn't the Xcon leaning more toward the SPL spectrum?
  18. I know he said dcons. He also mentioned Icons, which I said they would be out of my price range
  19. The Icons are sweet, but a little out of my price range. I also thought about maybe one larger ported 12 with the space that I have. I just need it to be accurate as well, I do not want a one note wonder. I have never ran a ported box in my system, but have design quite a few for friends, and I know they can sound good if done right. I just have never heard any of the woofers offered at SSA before, So I do not know what to expect.
  20. Ok. Lets make it 36x14x12
  21. I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger. It has a pretty large trunk, but underneath the back deck is a carpet type enclosure that hangs pretty far down. My current box is only 14" tall, and it hits the carpet thing. So unless I angle the box, a 15 wouldnt fit. I have about 36" width to play with, and 14" height. Depth would change depending on the airspace for the woofers. I don't want to extend too far into trunk, as I always have baseball gear (Bucket of balls and baseball bag), or golf clubs, or something back there. I dont want to lose the use of my trunk, thats why I was thinking sealed.

Upgrade to Mach 5 IXL-10's. Some questions

Anyone have an idea of how these two 10 would compare to my G5 in terms of sound quality and output?
  23. Hey guys, pretty new to this forum. I currently run a boston acoustic G512-44 off of a rockford p1000-1bd amp. It is in a sealed box and sound really good. I gets pretty loud, ok for my ears anyways, 120-130. But anyways, I was thinking about getting two Mach 5 IXL-10 BR woofers. My goal of this upgrade is to have the same great sound just add a little more oomph once in a while. I do not usually crank it all the time, but when I'm in the mood, I would like a more output. I listen to Rock/Rap almost all of the time, with some classic rock and R&B sometimes. Not sure whether I would go ported or sealed. (ported with the BR series of course) Has anyone used the IXL-10's here? or have any input? Thanks Note: I am about to do big 3 upgrade. Budget would be around price of two IXL's. And right now they are on sale $109 apiece.

Upgrade to Mach 5 IXL-10's. Some questions

I have been trying to find reviews on them for a while. I did find a pretty good one, and it was very informative. I also like the recommended box size, pretty small, as I could run 2 of them in about 1.2 cu. ft. tuned at 30hz. I just do not want, and wont, fill up my trunk with woofers. I always have golf clubs or baseball equipment in there. I don't really want to run another 12 as that is boring. I've never had 10's before and these look to be a good performer. The IXL's are stated as being more sound quality driven instead of spl, which is what I am conserned with. Just seeing if anyone here has used them.
