The universal option machines the gap for D2 ohm coils. When using a D1 coil in a D2 gap you will loose a little bit of motor strength, but not anything to worry about when using the sub in a daily application. If you were competing seriously you'd want every last bit you can get.
Thanks for the info., that's what I was looking for.

but also BE CAREFUL with using a bass knob! they are a NO NO in my books and at lot of other ppl books b/c of what they do!
and go with what m5 said to do! post up your build with all the info and please please read the links in his sig before posting!
+5 for bass, and +6 for treble
Turn both back to zero, there is no way that can sound good. You said it's bright, back the treble down to zero, then you will hear how muddy your bass is. lol
Buy a bigger amp or more effecient drivers if you want to get louder, but the way you are set up now has fail written all over it.
I agree, your distorting everything at the head unit. +1, maybe 2 should be plenty for bass if used at all, I keep mine at 0. Treble is your opinion, but I keep mine at +/-1.
Edit: On my head unit, (CDA-105), I always use the SUB W. control to increase bass while keeping the EQ the same. The bass knob also helps, but you can get great bass while leaving your EQ settings near neutral, and IMO sounding cleaner (better).
True, I usually never turn mine over half.

I think you've got the same HU as I do. I usually keep my SUB levels almost at max, but leave the bass setting at 0, I've had the best results with that in my setup.

That's what I was thinking. On the website, it doesn't list any downsides, and its free, so I thought I should go with it.

I really like my CDA-105. I constantly use the iPod cable, I don't think I've listened to the radio for a half hour since I've put it in.

check out my sig and then call DC Power.
I'm thinking of going with Mechman. I've got a 97 Explorer, DC Power has a 230 amp for $429 and Mechman has a 270 amp for $399. From what I've heard, Mechman's alternators are also high quality large case, though I've never bought one from either company.

I'm going to order a BTL 18 1-ohm after I order a T1500-1bd. I was planning on getting all the options, daily, and universal. I was just wondering if there's any downside to getting the universal option.
Thanks for the help.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the forum, I've been lurking for awhile trying to learn as much as I can. Anyways, I've had a 15" Memphis sub and a Memphis Power Reference P200.2 two channel amp for awhile. Lately my sub started to sound like it was fixing to go. I found someone selling two Memphis 12s in a box on Craigslist. I went and met the guy and hooked up the speakers, and they sounded good, so I paid the guy and started to get on my way. The speaker wires this guy had for the 12s were crimped and part of the metal was exposed. I went to push the box the rest of the way into my Explorer, and like an idiot, I let the exposed metal on the speaker wires make contact. Smoke literally rolled out of my amp. I turned the power off as quick as possible, and gave the amp awhile to cool down. Both fuses were blown on the amp, I replaced them, and still get nothing but the protect light from the amp.
I'm betting that the amp is pretty much trash now, I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions before I junk it.
Thanks

help re-adjusting gains please

If you leave your sub level at 0 while setting your gains, if you turn it up afterwords, couldn't you get clipping? I would leave the bass and treble neutral and have the sub setting around what I was going to use it at.
