    1998 Explorer Sport Build

It's just amazing how I can't build a box to save my life but my buddy and I built his entire house. I didn't have a single issue then. Now I'm like saw handicapped or something?

    1998 Explorer Sport Build

Finally have some time to post pics. VERY slow build process because I own my own business so I work ALL THE TIME! lol I'm also a single parent so that makes it tough too. Anyways, here is what I have been up to this last week. DB Electric Alt. NOT HAPPY. Battery at idle sits at 12.8 volts. Called and the told me the pulley is smaller so use a smaller belt. Check... didn't do a thing. So then I swapped pullies out from the old to the new, nope... didn't help. Brand new belts too. Wasted 33 bucks on a belt I'll never use now. So now I wanna send it back but they are going to charge me a 25% restocking fee.... total bs. My stock alt is 130 amp, so I'm just going to run that one until I have cash to drop on a $400 quality alt. Optima in, big 3 done, power and ground wires all ran Started building my box today. So I made the kid cut the grass so I could keep working. Craptastic box. Man I suck at cutting straight! Stupid stuff too like cutting on the wrong side of the line, plus the blade width, leaving the piece an 1/8" short. Nothing that a bit of sanding and caulk wont fix. Kinda ghetto but its all I can do. 3 sides are done with the top just resting for show. Another view All of the inside corner pieces are cut and the back to corners are already glued and caulked. Still need to cut the ports and the holes out of the second baffle before I glue them. If you are wondering this is the ICON dual 12 ported box from the tech section. 4 cubes @ 30 hz with 55 sq inches of port. Hope to finish the rest next week and final get it in the Explorer. And the new box is just sitting on an unfinished sealed box so I don't have to bend over as much. I'm 6'6" so I'm not fond of things on the ground. I also used up all my deadening tiles but I didn't take pics of that. 40 tiles total went in trouble area's. It really made a huge difference in most spots so I am glad I did pick those up. More to come next week I hope and if all goes right I have a video too.

    wat to get

x2 That's what I would do. Or even go with more cone area instead of two high power 15's you could do 4 12's. 4- Dcon 12d4's wired to 2 ohms on a Stetsom V 1K5 H. Put them in like 7-8 cubes tuned to 32hz. Minus a box that would set you back around $950 before shipping.

A while back I bought a cheap budget system used off one of my buddies friends for $150 bucks. It was an 12" Orion sub, Alpine amp, and a Obcon box. Sounds pretty good and hit fairly hard. So when I bought it, the seller stated it was a 200 watt rms sub running off the amp @ 2 ohms which produces 300 watts rms. He didn't know the model of the sub just the specs the local audio shop told him when he bought the package. Well I am in the process of installing 2 ssd 12" and a 1600 watt amp. So for fun while I am waiting to finish the box I decided to pull the sub from the temp setup just to laugh at the tiny magnet it should have. Based off what he told me and the dust cap I came to the conclusion it was an Orion C12d4 wired at 2 ohms. But to my surprise, when I pull it out I see this.... Its an Orion P12d2! And, they had it wired at 4 ohms, which is only about 150 watts off that amp. The P12 is rated at 500 rms! So I quick mount it back in the box and hook it up to my new amp which puts down 700 watts at 4 ohms, set the gains for the correct rms, and let er rip! WOW! haha had I know I probably would have just kept it and built a better box! But I already have my ssd's and I am sure they will out rock this sub! Yup! It was a good day! Here is the Orion Bio on the sub: New for 2003, the P-series delivers the awesome low frequency performance of the much-praised XTR PRO woofer family at aggressive prices. Built in uniquely tooled heavy gauge rolled steel baskets, these woofers handle an astonishing 1000 watts of peak music power. They outperform their distinguished predecessors with over 17mm of Xmax supported by a stacked motor assembly and medium-wide nitrile-butyl rubber surround. Designed for high output levels from small sealed enclosures with no loss of sound quality of sound quality, or in vented enclosures using the unique Intelli Q circuit built into Orion amplifiers for maximum bass and low frequency impact. Features: Size: 12" Impedance: Dual 2 ohm Power handling(RMS): 500 Watts Power handling(Peak): 1000 Watts Efficiency (1W @ 1M, dB): 84.22 Frequency range (Hz): 30Hz-2500Hz Heavy gauge rolled steel Orion-designed basket with dual stack magnet assembly High-rigidity paper cone and medium roll NBR surround Small sealed box performance 2-1/2" voice coil on aluminum former and vented pole piece Custom-tooled wrap gasket and protective magnet boot Satin-finish heavy gauge wire terminals

Nice! What size box and tuning? And OT, but can you even see out of your windows with 4%? lol I have all my windows at 20% and driving down a back road at night I can't see a thing.

Yeah its not to bad at all. It sounds pretty clean and the output was decent before for 1 12. Now that its get 500 watts its a world of difference. Sub has some nice excursion now too. Before the cone didn't move that much. lol I can't wait to get my ssd's in though.

That's the plan! If I sell this setup that should be enough for me to order my components finally. I still have a brand new prefab box and 2 New Brutus square 12's sitting here to off load too. New deck with that money I hope!

    1998 Explorer Sport Build

Just an update. Got my shipment in from Sound Deadening solutions today and already used up about half of it in problem area's on the explorer. I also started to build a 2.5 cube common chamber sealed box just to see how bad my wood working skills are. Yup, I pretty much suck! Cant cut a straight line to save my life. I have a jig saw and a skill saw to work with and that's it. Even marking correct and following the line my cuts are wavy to a fault. So I might just jump on the pre-order for the new Khaotik boxes. I think I'll use the rest of the wood to make a false bottom in the cargo area so I can stash the amp away under a door. Pics and more updates coming tomorrow as I'll be working on running wires and other stuff most of the day!

    Look what USPS gave me!

On man that sucks! Fi packing on my 2 ssd 12's was great! I'm sure some jackass just dropped it or was tossing it instead of placing it. I'd contact Nick and see what he says. Nick"at"ficaraudio.com

    1997 Jeep Wrangler

Sweet Build and Jeep! I had a 94 before my son was born last year. Never put anything audio wise into it though. It rarely had the top on from about March to October. If it rained, I pulled the plugs, if it was cold, I wore a jacket. lol Sure do miss that thing. My Baby! You are missed!
  17. I had a 200 amp alt from them a few years ago with no issues. Lately I have seen a few people complaining about idle performance. I have a 250 amp coming from them today I hope. First thing I'm gonna do is take it in to be tested. This is the info from their website about the 220 amp alt. * Voltage Set Point – 14.5 Volts * Internal Voltage Regulator * Under Full Load Conditions, amperage output at 600 engine rpm (idle) will peak at 110 Amps. * Under Full Load Conditions, amperage output at 1200 engine rpm will peak at 220 Amps.

Thought I would post a few more pics cause the Black Berry ones are terrible! I should know better.... I'm a photog.... Knuconceptz 0 awg next to their 4 awg The HUGE Knuconceptz ANL Fuse holder. Sorry, but I laugh every time I look at it, but jealous at the same time. haha Amp Side 1 Side 2 4 gauge power and ground hence the 3rd Fuse holder. 0 into a distribution block, 4 out, fused, then to the amp. That's all for now. More as the rest comes in and I start building and installing on Sunday.

    Brightest color in kelvin

Basic Kelvin scale with everyday things to compare brightness to. I'm sure the 30,000k's will be bright enough though.
  25. Robert.Metzel

    Brightest color in kelvin

The higher the kelvin, the less light output you get. I'm not sure how many lumens that unit puts out but past 8-10,000 kelvin the light output seriously drops off. Taken right from the Kensun website: "Please note: most customers have a common misconception that the higher the K (Kelvin temperature) the brighter it gets, but in fact, it is the opposite. The K rating is inversely proportional to the light output, therefore the lower the K the brighter the light output." High noon on a clear day is around 6000K for a brightness comparison. Hope that helps. And yes, they will be pretty blue.
