  1. Cool man. They're actually some decent subs. I'm running two of the 10" versions of those currently.

Yeah its not to bad at all. It sounds pretty clean and the output was decent before for 1 12. Now that its get 500 watts its a world of difference. Sub has some nice excursion now too. Before the cone didn't move that much. lol I can't wait to get my ssd's in though.

  2. Sounds like you can make back your money and then some :drink40:

That's the plan! :fing34: If I sell this setup that should be enough for me to order my components finally. I still have a brand new prefab box and 2 New Brutus square 12's sitting here to off load too. New deck with that money I hope!

  3. A while back I bought a cheap budget system used off one of my buddies friends for $150 bucks. It was an 12" Orion sub, Alpine amp, and a Obcon box. Sounds pretty good and hit fairly hard. So when I bought it, the seller stated it was a 200 watt rms sub running off the amp @ 2 ohms which produces 300 watts rms. He didn't know the model of the sub just the specs the local audio shop told him when he bought the package.

Well I am in the process of installing 2 ssd 12" and a 1600 watt amp. So for fun while I am waiting to finish the box I decided to pull the sub from the temp setup just to laugh at the tiny magnet it should have. Based off what he told me and the dust cap I came to the conclusion it was an Orion C12d4 wired at 2 ohms. But to my surprise, when I pull it out I see this....

    4747305421_32d6b0d414_b.jpg

Its an Orion P12d2! :) And, they had it wired at 4 ohms, which is only about 150 watts off that amp. The P12 is rated at 500 rms! So I quick mount it back in the box and hook it up to my new amp which puts down 700 watts at 4 ohms, set the gains for the correct rms, and let er rip! WOW! haha had I know I probably would have just kept it and built a better box! But I already have my ssd's and I am sure they will out rock this sub! Yup! It was a good day! :dancing:

Here is the Orion Bio on the sub:

  4. Just an update. Got my shipment in from Sound Deadening solutions today and already used up about half of it in problem area's on the explorer. I also started to build a 2.5 cube common chamber sealed box just to see how bad my wood working skills are. Yup, I pretty much suck! Cant cut a straight line to save my life. I have a jig saw and a skill saw to work with and that's it. Even marking correct and following the line my cuts are wavy to a fault. So I might just jump on the pre-order for the new Khaotik boxes. I think I'll use the rest of the wood to make a false bottom in the cargo area so I can stash the amp away under a door. Pics and more updates coming tomorrow as I'll be working on running wires and other stuff most of the day! :)

  5. Sweet Build and Jeep! I had a 94 before my son was born last year. Never put anything audio wise into it though. It rarely had the top on from about March to October. If it rained, I pulled the plugs, if it was cold, I wore a jacket. lol Sure do miss that thing.

    My Baby! You are missed!

  6. I had a 200 amp alt from them a few years ago with no issues. Lately I have seen a few people complaining about idle performance. I have a 250 amp coming from them today I hope. First thing I'm gonna do is take it in to be tested. This is the info from their website about the 220 amp alt.

    * Voltage Set Point – 14.5 Volts

    * Internal Voltage Regulator

    * Under Full Load Conditions, amperage output at 600 engine rpm (idle) will peak at 110 Amps.

    * Under Full Load Conditions, amperage output at 1200 engine rpm will peak at 220 Amps.

  7. Thought I would post a few more pics cause the Black Berry ones are terrible! I should know better.... I'm a photog.... :peepwall:

That's all for now. More as the rest comes in and I start building and installing on Sunday. :)

  8. Your subs look niiiice!

    Ssd's not Bl's ? Damn !

Go ported, you will pound harder! :)

    Tuned in for more pics.

    Thanks for posting.

No BL's. lol This is a budget build for sure. Plus, not may people are reppin the SSD's, so I though I would. :)

  9. Well I thought I would start a build log even though my stuff doesn't even come close to what most of you are doing. lol Anyways, build will consist of the following stuff:

    1998 Ford Explorer Sport

    2- SSD 12's dual 1 ohm

    Soundstream RUB1600.1 amp

All Knuconceptz power/ ground wires 0 awg

    12 awg speaker wire

    250 amp alt

    Yellowtop under the hood

    Big 3 w/ 0 awg

40 CDL tiles from Don @ Sound Deadener Showdown just to tame the cargo area a bit.

No front stage yet as I don't have the cash for them yet. I business partner has an alpine 5 channel amp with a center stage I can use when I do get the components. Not sure of the model though.

Current system is an Orion 12 on 200 rms and the Explorer rattles pretty good already. Ill post a video of the baby flex from that 12 for fun in the next few days. haha

So some pics of what I currently have installed and the gear going in.

Orion 12, Obcon Box, Alpine amp.... Gets decently loud for what it is. Temp system while I saved up for all of the above.

I have a wedding to shoot this Saturday so Sunday I start installing the power wires. Waiting on the CDL tiles and the HO alternator so Ill probably do 2 of 3 of the Big 3 and just run the Alt to batt wire for now..

Plenty More pics to come as I tear up, put down, install, etc... Hope to start the box this weekend. Around 4 cubes after displacement. Subs firing up and port to the rear. Trying to save as much cargo space as I can by doing it that way. I haul around A LOT of camera gear for shoots so I need the space. Still might go sealed but I haven't decided. I had planned on getting current system metered before I pull it but no shops around here have TL. 2 have old condenser mics and the 3rd had no clue what kind they had but they said it was super accurate. + or - 10 db... :orly3: Yeah not .1 db... 10 db's! I told him I'd be better off saving my $40 and just guessing the db's. Probably more accurate too! Won't be calling them again... haha

  11. I just ordered some "KENSUN HID Xenon Conversion Kit 9004/07 Lo/Hi Halogen 30000k Deep Blue" and been looking around on internet and started seing the higher

you go in kelvin the diferent color you will get out of the light(Past 10k comes more of a purple/pink color) My question is would those kensun lights be retarded BLUE! Or would they not be as bright??

The higher the kelvin, the less light output you get. I'm not sure how many lumens that unit puts out but past 8-10,000 kelvin the light output seriously drops off.

Taken right from the Kensun website:

"Please note: most customers have a common misconception that the higher the K (Kelvin temperature) the brighter it gets, but in fact, it is the opposite. The K rating is inversely proportional to the light output, therefore the lower the K the brighter the light output."

High noon on a clear day is around 6000K for a brightness comparison.

Hope that helps. And yes, they will be pretty blue.

  12. Woot! Woot! Brown finally came! 2- SSD 12's w/ stock options

  13. I have gonna 100+ to many times to count in to many cars! lol I used to work for Knauz Auto Park in Lake Bluff, IL in the detailing shop. After we detailed a car we would go fill it up with gas. We always took hwy 41 to the gas station instead of the normal street so we could mess around. I have gotten to drive everything from entry level Porsche to Saleen s7 and highly modified m3's and so on.... pay sucked but all those cars made it worth it! :)

I hit 140 once on my old Ninja before backing off and about 120 on my old Ducati Monster. Now I do 5 over at most.... NEVER been pulled over for speeding. :)
