  1. Interesting thread since I have the same car as the OP with the Mechman 220A unit. I also can't get my alt to charge at idle, but I'm just about 25 RPM away from that. I could probably blow on the pedal and it will charge.
  2. Mechman hands down, never heard problems with any. Already have seen some shady stuff from Singer. I can already tell, my one buddy has ran Singer and Mechman, and swears he'll never use Singer ever again. He's a novice in business industry and is taking on way too much at one. Mechman is top notch and you're guaranteed an outstanding product.

    Fi SP4

Fi's website would be a stupid place to look for T/S Params, usually I have Nick mail me a printed copy to my house.

    N2 Reconing Pros

I'm about to recone my N2s, as well as changing the size of the basket. Shipping is over $160 to Fi and back and that's a real bank breaker for a poor guy like myself. How easy is it to change the basket on the N2s, and is it easy enough to recone a sub by an average joe?

    N2 Reconing Pros

The shipping is 160 dollar, i think he can get 2 recones for the price of 1 recone+shipping. I would do it myself, you can even screw up 1 time and not lose money. Although i don't think it's easy to change the basket properly because i have never done that before. And how much is a warranty worth in the world of speakers? The only thing when the warrenty comes into play is if they have done it wrong. No warranty on the BTLs. I can think of many different things I could've done wrong, speakers just magically don't blow so it shouldn't be covered under a warranty.

Something really bad happened, help please

Okay, time to answer all of your questions going in order. Tested the amp on my Fi X, amp works great. Took off the back plate, the inside looks perfect as well as sexy. I did lose a coil. Subs impedance reads this outside of the box, and this is for sure: Sub 1, coil 1- no read, coil 2- 0.7 Sub 2, coil 1- 1.9, coil 2- 1.9 Daily listening, the lowest I ever see the voltage get is 12.9... Usually it never goes below 13.3V.
  8. I was giving a friend a demo, nothing outrageous, basically just how I listen to it daily. In the middle of it, the bass got real quiet... I look back and I saw one (didn't see the other) sub was going crazy excursion. I start to smell a very bad burning smell coming, like big time, so something definitely happened. I check the amp, it's not hot, nor is smoke coming out, and the smell isn't really coming from the amp. I get home, my amp is sitting at 1.9 ohms (usually always .7 ohm), then check my subs: Coil 1&2: 1. imp was fluctuating like crazy 2. Coil was jumping a little between 1.7 to 1.9. Coil 3&4: 3. imp was fluctuating like crazy. 4. Couldn't even get a reading. I push on the subs, they aren't scratching. So now I know the woofers are toast... but now I'm wondering if it was the amp that caused this. It's pretty rare to see both subs go out at the same time. Note: It was a little moist in my car today, but the amp wasn't moist (my trunk is sealed off from the cabin.) What do you guys think? I have a little Fi X to test tomorrow and see how that goes. Subs are 2 N2 BTLs (D .7) Amp is AQ 3500.1 Edit: The sub that had crazy excursion is the one that didn't have a reading on coil 4.

    SP4 now up!

Hey Nick, I sent you two emails asking a few questions if you can get back to me. You have my anxiety building!

Subs AREN'T scratching, mistyped that. And not sure how's it moist, my subs and dynamat was slightly misty.

    where's my order

Well, looking at their website, most subs are taking around 7-14 days to build. It's been about 3 weeks, and sometimes they are a little backed up. Relax young grasshopper.

2003 toyota camry and some Fi BL's

why is it that camry's dont get loud? I've heard other people make that comment before.. sucks cause it would have been nice to put it in a couple a comps. I dont want to get embarrased out there. Some cars just don't get loud. Could anyone explain why CRXs/Pandas/Blazers get loud easily? Or why Tahoes are air machines? For the Camry, the sunroof doesn't really affect things, except not sure if your BLs will do this but my BTLs did it and is now getting the other side just as bad: Me and a few guys have tried a variety of ways to get the Camry loud. The loudest we've seen yet was a 145.x in sub/port back orientation on 7kw. I'm doing a 144.0 with you saw in the video on 4kw. I also am not sure what his rise was, but it probably wasn't as bad as mine and I only get 1kw out of my amp on burps. Subs up with port to the side works decent. But combined with both of our experiences, subs/port forward sealed from the trunk is the loudest on the mic. Also, a guy had a single 18 on 2kw, sub up port x?x and only did a 141-142. It's just unfortunate but still compete and have fun with it.
  13. Everyone seems to be missing the fact, except for bromo, that he smelt a strong electrical burning. You cooked something inside the amp. Take the amp out, flip it over, unscrew the bottom and take a picture of what it looks like. You won't void the warranty by just taking off the back cover, audioque isn't that stupid.

2003 toyota camry and some Fi BL's

I hope you're actively involved in the design of your box and build. I know all about how the camry works now and some listening scenarios are clearly better than others as well as meter score. I'm not shooting you down at all, but don't expect good numbers in this car. To the ear, assuming your build and box is nice, its going to sound great and get loud. It will do pretty poorly on the mic unfortunately, these cars suck for that.

2003 toyota camry and some Fi BL's

I do know his vehicle requirements, considering I have the exact same car. My aq 3500.1 with my 220a mechman and xs d2400 and two deka 9a31s never sees below 13.0, usually never 13.3. His electrical is a fair bit more stout with a more efficient amp.

He'll be fine easily. Does your voltage sit at the 14.9 range with that XP series? If so, you'll rarely ever see below 14.0V.

Yay Nick! You rock! If anyone has any questions, do not use the search feature on the forums because that makes no sense whatsoever, just ask Nick right here! He sits around all day and would love to keep answering the same questions over and over cause it gives him the willies!

    New Demo song worth posting.

DL/Buy a good quality version of it. You might have to turn up your bass a little bit, or since the song is pretty light, your overall volume. BEWARE: I believe it's around 4:48, the song does a killer low note, then all the sudden the bass amplifies after it so get ready to turn it down or your amp is going to clip severely.
  24. You got a 3500.1, a batt, and a 0awg kit for $325? Something seems fishy there. Edit* Just saw the craigslist ad, be thankful you got it before me.
