You install looks good, much better than most. If you didn't achieve your goals with it, now you have a baseline!

Anyone ever had any experience with this Fountek driver?
edouble101 replied to altoncustomtech's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I scooped up a few sets of mids and tweeters slightly used or on sale. I built a baffle that I can demo these drivers on and I compare notes. The audible differences between mids is drastic. Tweeters not so much. I have yet to hear a midrange that doesn't need a tweeter. A tweeterless system lacks "air" or "atmosphere" IMO. It is a personal preference and I recommend that you buy a few drivers and test them yourself. If you are careful enough with the speakers you could even return them to parts express afterwards. BTW I also recommend you buy drivers based on installation limitations than t/s specs. Hearing is believing, specs don't make a sound. -

Is the suspension stiffer on the rearward stroke? Probably not a big deal for a subwoofer though. -

any trusted SSA members doing amp repairs?
edouble101 replied to jonbearsmt's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I know nobody on this forum that repairs amps. Although I do know a guy that does excellent amplifier repair and restoration. You can look home up on DIYMA (ShawnK) or I could PM you his number. Extremely knowledgable guy. -
BTW those Knu distro blocks are AWESOME!!!!

I am helping a buddy revamp his install. He was using a JL Audio component set for the font stage and JL Audio 12w6 subs powered by JL Audio Slash amps. He bought my P99RS from me and is now running active I gave him a quick four hour tune while drinking some beers and we got the JL's sounding really good. Good enough to be winning competitions but he wanted more. He bought a set of Seas components and is hoping for a better sound. I recommended a different route but this is what he choose. We have a lot to go yet on revamping his install. Here are a few pics of the Seas midrange install. Old MDF baffles that I told him had to go. I made new baffles out of cutting board. Unfortunately I didn't take pics of this step. I used my router with a circle jig to cut the baffles. The boards are 3/8" thick so we doubled up on them to get 3/4". I used hot glue to join the baffles and used ht glue again too seal them the to metal door and used four screws to fasten them. I applied gasket tape to seal the drivers to the baffles since the baffles flexed out of fat once being attached to the door. We are no done yet with this install, I will have to take more pics once we meet up next. His setup will be in the winners circle for 2014

Finally got the amps installed around 11pm yesterday. I quick listen with no tune : sub bass is fairly flat, really digs the lows with authority . Even with no tune whatsoever the "up front bass" was very present with a blues track that I demoed. Amplifier gains were set about 3/4 max and we definitely have to revisit those for more adjustment. The front stage needs retuned badly. Literally have every inch used in this trunk.

edouble101 replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
I am really anxious to see how the doors turn out. Those TB 6.5" midbass drivers have a huge ass, damn!! The TB W4 Ti driver is a great mid. I believe you are using the bamboo version which I have not tested. The only midrange that I have heard that I like as much as the W4 is the CSS VWR126X, smmmooooottthhh mid. I do not know what tweeter you have there. I have tested a bunch and I am anticipating the KAXBLTWT. Should be an excellent small format tweet.. -
Congrats on the win!

Arc audio ks 125.4 mini
edouble101 replied to gsWes's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
If have used an Arc Audio KS series amplifier and had no problems with it. -
Depending on which Boston Acoustics sub you have, I would build a ported enclosure for it. If that doesn't satisfy your needs then I would consider more cone area and double the amplification power.
