  1. I am replacing a 1000D with the SAZ-1500D. I already have 4 gauge power and ground run to the trunk. Will I experience significant loss by using 4 gauge? I will be running the amp at 1ohm. 4 gauge ground is about 24" long going into a ground distro block with 0 gauge grounded from the block to the chassis about 12" away. Existing 4 gauge power is about 3 feet from a distro block that has 0 gauge coming to it from the battery. I have done the big 3 with 0 gauge. Have a 200A alt as well. Lastly, will a 150A fuse be enough for the 1500D? Thanks all.

    SAE-1200D PRE-ORDER OPEN - $350

Jake, What is the diffs between this and the SAZ-1500D? Seems the 1200 puts out the same power for less money?

best sql box for 2 x rlp and orion 2500d

That's who I used. Pete from Toxic Bass is a genious when it comes to box design. I just got my plans and am having the box made as we speak.

    slot or aeroports?

I'd appreciate the link if you can find it. No problem If you are wondering exactly how drag can cause noise and change tuning (the physics 'mumbo jumbo') i have a link somewhere that explains it in excelent detail with easy to understand illistrations. It will just take some searching. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

An interesting type of slot port

    Cool. Thanks all.

Which plot do you think would work best?

yes it is fun. so I guess I really need to look into winISD pro and calculate the transient response of my car to be accurate right?

An interesting type of slot port

Yeah I guess it would best to just to do a normal slot port with an L-turn and keep it simple stupid. I will still need to add a brace between the subs though. Thanks.
  8. Basically I have seen some people recently making ported boxes and putting the slot port in the middle to act as bracing. When they get to the back of the box they split the port's area in two but still use the same port length. You can see what I mean here: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169881 So for example if I needed 48 inches of port area, 30 inches long. I would go 3x16 in area for 15 inches and then make a left and right turn. The port area would shrink to 1.5x16 inches in both directions and go for another 15 inches in each direction. So technically I still maintained the same port area for the same length. But I don't know if such a design actually is not the same as a typical L-shaped slot port and maybe changing the tuning freq, etc? Any thoughts on whether this is a good or bad idea? It certainly eliminates the need for bracing in a 36" long box... Thank you.
  9. I am having a hell of a time deciding on a box size and tuning freq for a pair of RL-P 12's pushed with 1500 watts of class a/b power. I want major major impact with rock music. Metallica, AC/DC, Def Leppard, etc. I love Dave Mathews, when his bass drum kicks I want to feel it. I guess the big question is where exactly does the bass drum fall in the freq range? Is it in the high 30 and into the 40's where the green plot would do best? Or is it in the mid 20's to low 30's where the blue plot would be best? Or lastly a compromise of both as the red plot shows. I am so confused on which route to take. I do not listen to rap, so I don't care about that. Mostly rock, jazz and some techno. Thanks for the help.

    Just ordered my RL-P 12's

Should be on their way this week. A pair of them in 3cf tuned to 34Hz. Got the box being build right now too. Can't wait.... I will post pics when I get them installed and metered.

Great read indeed. Thank you. I think I will go with slot just to save money.

    slot or aeroports?

I am new to ported boxes, but have to decided to get 2 RLP 12's and port them. This is for car audio and not home if it matters. I have always read that slot ports are better than circular ports for some reason. Yet it seems that most people are using circular ports with the RLP's. Should I stay away from slot? I would prefer it since it saves the cost, but not if they are inferior. WHat are your thoughts? Would it help if I rounded the edges if I went slot? Also this is going in a trunk so maybe the possible sound being generated is negligible. I was planning on about 48 sqaure inches of port area if I went slotted for 2 12's which is slightly more than 20 per driver set as a minimum. Thanks all.

    Please recommend enclosure for 2 rl-p 12's

WinISD says that if I use 3 4" ports that they each need to be 26" long. Clearly this is too long. Can I just use a slot port of about 3" x 15"? According to winISD it would need to be 27.7" long. This would be much easier to make. I am new to ported boxes so I want to make sure I have this right. Thank you.

Thank you. How long should the ports be and does it matter where I place them on the front baffle?
