    understanding components

Oh, alright i understand it a little better now. My speakers, on certain songs when the volume is up, tend to be fine to a point and then part of the frequency range just drops off significantly, although, at much lower volumes it does not seem to happen. Not sure what would cause that? im also not using compnents.

So, what does beaming sound like?
  3. That is what i was about to say. The other day i installed a kicker amp kit for a guy, the amp kit had been used and who ever used it had to cut the wire down to get it in the fuse holder. So i pulled the wire out and took out the reducer and redid it.

You should check out some songs that i edited and let me know what you think.

sure, in music there are db levels, with 0 being the max point, such as -5 db or -10 db. you can take music into audacity and see what peaks are in a song, for instance the song may show a peak at 30hz of -3db, but the rms of it could be around -10db rms. doesnt mean a ton unless you like to set your amp with tones, but also tones the rms is usually higher than music. for instance, a -3db tone's rms would most likely be -6db rms (-3 db down from peak) to where music rms levels of -3db would most likely be around -10db or less. So, say you set your amp with a -5 db tone, the rms would most likely be -8 rms, well if you start going over -8 rms, then that would be clipping. the explanation may be lacking a bit, im pretty tired right now. but anyways, i think i remember decaf tell some people on another forum that if they listened to his songs and they used a smd dd-1 or o-scope to set their gains then he recommended using the -5 db tone or be careful with anything over that. anyway, i set my gains with a tone and on any songs that i had problems with i went and edited the bassline to make them a little quieter, until i got my zed ra, then i set the ra's compressor to kick in around the tone i used and i have not had any problems with my sub getting hot, which would happen if i was not careful with the bass knob level on certain songs.

That does not matter much, that is the peak of the song, not the rms. a lot of the time the rms is 5-10 db lower than the peak. On the songs i edit, the peak on some of the loudest songs are close to 0-5 db but the rms is usually 8-12.

no problem. i would say be careful though, his songs are pretty loud, makes clipping easier.

i have not had any problems with any of his songs and i have checked out some of his songs and did not find any clipping of the bassline.

    Truth about rca cables

I saw this video from D'Amore and was wondering what everyone thought about it?

    Truth about rca cables

alright, thanks for the information. he also posted this in the comments, "If the head unit has SE outputs and the amplifier has SE inputs = coax cable If the head unit has SE outputs and the amplifier has Diff inputs = twisted pair If the head unit has Diff outputs and the amplifier has Diff inputs = twister pair If the head unit has Diff outputs and the amplifier has SE inputs = bad no matter what as you will shorting out half of the head unit's outputs. In this case you would need an amplifier with Diff inputs or a converter to convert the head unit's outputs to SE"
  12. nice, I have some clamps and straight edges for the next box I get to build.

    Mezzo components

No, but i have been looking around for a component set and they match what i think i will need. So i may order some.

    Confused. haha...

The sub wasn't peaky, it was the box you designed. Stop blaming a woofer for doing what you told it to do.I'm not recommending everyone go out and buy Kicker gear, but they fit a niche and what they do they actually do pretty well. All the anti-hype is misplaced based on poor information and installation. How easy you all forget that installation is MORE important than the equipment. if it was an enclosure for me i would have designed it to have less of a peak, but the guy wanted it loud on low notes, so he got it. I should have said i built it a little peaky for my taste, but the l7s do get loud easy.it was pretty loud for one 12 and was pretty close, if not louder, than this one guy who had 4 l7 15s on two 2500.1s and my manager at the time thought kicker was complete garbage after that he had heard that but I tried to tell him it was just a terrible install. He did not believe me until i built a box for one. So you liked it and it wasn't "terrible" like you stated in your previous post. Imagine that.I still did not prefer how it sounded, although it sounded better than all the others i have heard.

I dont care much for kicker, or at least their square subs, i dont like the way they sound. Although, the box i built for an l7 12 sounded pretty good, it was just real peaky. Also, kicker did come out with few new models this year, i think it is a comp r and comp rt somewhere around 800 rms.

  21. It is people like you who make companies look bad.
  22. Yeah the first one was a lot more in depth, people were just asking questions about the few things I left out. I didn't know that, just tried it, thanks man! I am an Engineer so very accustom to these programs, I use SolidWorks professionally, but wow, I never thought to try double clicking, haha thanks again. no problem, I figured that I would share that tip with you since it saves a bunch of time overall. I found it out because when im building the box in sketchup, I like to build off of the bottom panel instead of one piece at a time, then putting them all together. Keep up the good vids, I have learned a ton from them.
  23. Sweet, this one didnt help me as much as your first one did. I figured most of it out after i watched your first on it. Also, you dont have to click and drag to select the piece you created either, like you did for top for the flush mount. Once you have your new piece created you can double click on it and it will select all the sides and it wont select the piece underneath it as long as the piece under it has already been grouped.
