  1. I have a pair of brand new cerwin vega vs-150 woofers from the mid 90's. They are in mint shape. I need to build an enclosure for them but not sure what would work best. I found the original specs of the enclosure and calculated it to 5.1 cuft gross. They use a dual port design but obviously no idea of tuning. What would be a range I need to work with for port tuning and port area? I can estimate displacement but that's about all I have to go on. Not too familiar with building anything for an actual woofer. Thanks! Here is a pic for reference

Need help with box design one sa-8

First I would use the Torres box calculator. Much more accurate than the RE. http://cid-1e28f7d3956a626f.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public?uc=1 Change the file name to exe when you save it or it will not launch.

Good to hear! Think maybe a summer release? I'm looking to get 1-2 sets soon, didn't know the time frame I was looking at for a preorder.

    Monster Bandpass: TOP SECRET!

Wow even if that were for 6.5's that thing is monster and would weigh a freakin ton! Just playing around or is that for a customer?
  5. I know not a lot of people carpet stuff anymore, I guess I'm stuck in the 80's lol. I've been trying to find brown carpet for the past couple months to no avail. I can find black and gray all day long. Have come across a couple pieces of tan. I suppose worst case I can get some tan and tone it with some tint, just would rather not if I can help it. Thought maybe you guys could point me in the right direction. Here is what I need (the lower half). Thanks!

So I have to ask. What do you do with these? I ask because tuning to 9hz is obscene.

    sonosub

I have some experience in them. My first "system" was an 8" in pvc pipe lol. They seem to work best with the port on the sub baffle vs putting it on the bottom. Getting the circle cut right is very important for sealing. Unless you are like a surgeon with a sabre saw, use a router. If you are using a long length, you may want to add bracing atleast at the mid point. I've seen some of the longer tubes breathe under some high power.

I know you guys have been busy. Just checkin in for a possible update
  11. Looks nice! As far as having Lowes cut it with their panel saw, yes it is a crap shoot if you get someone who knows how to use a tape and take the time to do it. But 99% of the time you give them a measurement and they make a line and cut it. Then don't take into account the width of the blade. What I have found is see what thickness blade they are using and add that to your cuts. So long as they mark it right the cuts will be much better.

yes You have a vvti motor? What engine management?

hot girl + hot car = win

+1 I hate the huge offset and tiny tires stretched in. Why buy 10" rims then 205's? Then dial in a huge amount of negative camber to sorta fit it in the wheel wheels /rant
  15. I like having an eq. My HU has one built in and works decent. But by no means as extensive as a full standalone unit. I like being able to tweak some. My main issue is my hearing is very sensitive to mid range frequencies, and not so much on the higher end. A simple bass/treble adjustment doesn't do it for me. But a $1000 eq won't make a poor system sound any better.

Sundown Audio Rebuild - Blowthru to WALKTHRU!!!!!

They are "medium" lol. They are designed to mount ignition boxes in the engine bay to isolate from vibration. I have seen some that are softer, but the way it is mounted in my application I couldn't use them. They also make some that are silicone filled, they are super soft but not near as cheap.
  17. Thanks for the help! I looked at some of the other amps mentioned, and they are a little big in size or what I want to spend or both. I may look into one of these for one of my other cars. I really do miss being able to buy directly from the mfg. Retail pricing sucks lol.
  18. I need a new 2 channel to drive some 6.5"s in the doors. I need something on the small side and not looking to spend a lot. Mind you I don't want some Walmart brand $30 specials either. Anyway, back in the day I had a Soundstream Lil' Wonder amp. Loved that thing to death. I know several of the bigger companies back when I got into car audio (late 80's ish) have really gone downhill in terms of build and quality. I came across a Rubicon 2.250 that will fit the space requirements and the power I need. Not familar with anything they have made in the past few years. Are they still pretty decent? Not looking to compete or anything like that. Just looking for something to better drive my speakers (60wrms/120wpk) than deck power. Don't need any bleeding ears, just some clean sound. Thanks!

    best solder type

I solder about everyday. I always use either Multicore 60/40 or Kester 44. Hands down the best I've used. Be sure you clean really well and match the solder size to what you are soldering.
  20. You don't have to worry about polarity for resistance. Check center pin to center pin like edouble said. You can check the outer ring (ground) also. But typically if that is bad it will cause a hum, not no audio.

Sundown Audio Rebuild - Blowthru to WALKTHRU!!!!!

Yes. I use those for several things. I bought these to mount my fuel pump on the supra. The pump I have is huge and sounds like a chainsaw. If you mount it directly to the plate it vibrates the whole car and is loud as hell. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACC-49012

I poked around on the net. This is like what I made.

    8" Bravox Sonotube Build

Sonotube builds are cool. I had one back in the day and painted it up like a life saver pack. Built a little stand for it and had sub down and port up about 4" or so off the floor. My first sub in the car was a optimus 8" in a section of pvc pipe lol.

    Order #1415

I hate to be that guy. But I have no idea what is going on. I ordered an SA-8 D4 Wed 1/26. I messaged Jacob to check stock, he said he had the D4, just out of D2. I needed the D4 so that worked out good. I sent my order thru right after in the SSA store. I paid immediatly but said in the status I hadn't paid. I try to call twice, no answer. Send a message thru the store system. Hadn't heard anything, so sent Mark an email. Aaron replies back late Thurs 1/27 that payment was processed. Checked back and it said- "awaiting shipment". I check a couple times in the next few days, still the same. Getting concerned, I send another message thru the store yesterday around 5pm. It's 630 today and still no answer. I need to know if this is going out by tomorrow or not. I need to have it by Friday so I can install it in the enclosure. It is for my son's school project that is due Feb 7. If that isn't going to happen, I need to cancel my order and I will order expedite shipping thru someone else. Thanks for your time Dave
