  1. Wow that looks amazing!

I agree the black is pretty baller but I see where you are going.  Looking forward to you getting them back!

Edit:  Got too excited and posted before I saw you had them back already lol.  When are you going to get them loaded?

  2. So I competed for the first time today.  Not a lot of people due to the weather being iffy but was still fun.

Took first in Modified 2.  145.5 at 35hz  Still on the single 18 with 150a fusing.  Maybe I will have time to do some more testing to see what my actual peak is.  But I know almost every freq from 29-38hz is within .1 or .2  Several people think my peak is a lot higher because of the vehicle but it's hard for me to get excited about anything above mid 40's.  For the sake of competition I may give it a try.  2nd place I think was a 143.9 at 50hz

I also got Phat 18 but didn't get an award for it.

  3. I don't think it's a stupid question. Probably was just asked at the wrong time and people didn't see it. For the port it's going to have nothing to do with the box size. It has to do with the sub. We're going to need your max dimensions too. Why do you want to tune that low?

Take the square in per cubic ft rule, poop on it, light it on fire and throw it out of a 3rd story window.

Yes it has to do with the sub, but also the tuning frequency. There are several threads about it and you can calculate minimum required.

  4. Also kinda hard to tell in the pic, but from the orientation it looks like the port is fairly close to the side.

That being the case don't be surprised if the dats shows lower than calculated tuning.

Don't forget to use the calibration resistor each time you fire it up!

  5. Yeah the btl and sp4 are crated. I had the same issue with my q last year albeit not near as bad. I made a thread about it and pretty much it was said that the percentage of damage was small enough that it wasn't going to change. It sucks and I would gladly pay a little extra to be carted like the other 2 but that wouldn't happen either.

I understand shippers beat the hell out of stuff but I'd like to give it a better chance atleast.

But like m5 said it is still going to happen here and there.

  6. I've come to learn 2 things.

    1. What someone thinks sounds awesome another person thinks it sounds like crap.

    2. Install and processing make all the difference. I'm willing to bet a handful of people on here could buy some raw drivers from parts express and outperform a lot of component systems 5x the price.

  7. I tried to use hornresp once. It was a mess and I gave up lol.

I have the same dats. Its pretty handy and makes tuning and testing a breeze. Gonna use it to figure out my next wall.

I had the q18 and I think you will be surprised what a nice all around driver it is.

When are you going to start the actual construction?

  8. That sucks. I can say for sure they did NOT do it on purpose. I thought their packaging was terrible when I received my q18 sideways and made a thread about it. Bottom line is they aren't going to change their packaging on the lighter weight subs because it is rare to have one damaged they said. Atleast I was lucky and everything functioned fine.

Did the box look beat up? Be sure you contact Fi via email. I'm sure they will take care of it.

  9. Longer port for lower tuning yes. But actual length will depend on not only port area but enclosure volume. The bigger the enclosure volume the less physical length that will be required. But make no mistake it will still take up a good amount of volume. I think mine eats up something like 3 cubes or better.

  10. Full on transfer path analysis, modal analysis, and optimized fe including mid frequency response. So yeah.

Probably quite a few people that'd be willing to pay good money for the same analysis on their own vehicles for competition purposes.

Time to start another side business Sean smile.png

What I just described would cost over $100k to do on a vehicle for someone. Eats up a multimillion dollar lab for weeks. If someone wants it done it's no problem.

Phht. Make a box with a couple blinky lights and a couple leads. Then make a youtube video showing how your SM5-1 is dead nuts accurate to a multimillion dollar lab. Sell it for an exorbitant price on your website. Retire. Done.

  11. The thing is music is so dynamic and at different peak levels. Some songs clip to begin with.

Yes you can set it with a tone and a reference level but that doesn't guarantee anything on music. If you want to do it at a high peak then sure but that usually leaves a lot on the table.

I'm willing to help but just want you to realize a scope isn't the end all be all of setting gains.

Only exception would be if you are competing in a burp class and only playing a tone.

And rick you forgot taste. I can usually taste a coil getting hot before you can smell it. Lol

  12. It depends if you are doing a straight double baffle or a flush double baffle. But I line up the 2 pieces then drill my pilot hole for the router. After that I do them separate. Much easier if you are doing a flush mount because you don't have to worry about the plunge depth.

  13. That's not bad, just $1k.  I have to pay $800 per kid (x6) every month.

Ok not really.  I was just trying to make you feel better.  My buddy has an expression, but I probably shouldn't repeat it here lol.  I know how you feel though.  It seems everything just piles up at once.  I just got a $400 fine for parking a couple of my trucks outside in the grass and having a couple trash bags sitting out next to the garage without being in a can.  I've been working on cars for about 20 some odd years.  I know you are about 2hrs away but if you need help with something just let me know.  I'd be happy to help any way I can.
