  1. I've used the 13 ply before.  It is ok but still not void free that I used.  For sure better than the 5 ply stuff.

See if you can find something like void free Arauco ply or similar.

I didn't know you were out in BFE that sure does cut down the options.

  2. Thats a bummer.

I cant say im a big fan of Lowe's birch. All the stuff they have here is full of voids. You can use it though if you sort through and get lucky on a half decent piece.

I would rather use void free plywood.

Baltic birch is where its at if you can find it.

  3. I have an interesting story to share.

When I bought the LC a couple years ago it had the full stock audio in it. The head unit was crap and all 10 speakers were blown. I bought an Alpine head unit from a buddy after he hit a deer in his sc300 and put it in a ditch for $100. Installed that and worked fine for a week. Then it blew the power fuse. Replaced fuse. Was great for a couple weeks then it would power on half way and shut off repeatedly. It all looked ok so thought maybe it was damaged somehow in the wreck.

Bought a new kenwood for a good deal. I like it pretty well and has a usb input. Well it did the same thing. Ends up it had to do with the factory amp even though it was unplugged. Found the fix for that by modifying the factory harness.

Fast forward 2 years. Michael is looking to put a new head unit in his truck. I was thinking about putting the alpine in there and was looking up specs. Turns out it has full active controls! I had no idea. Michael would rather have the usb drive so that means ill be swapping the alpine in and he will take the kenwood.

    Win win!

I was excited and just wanted to share.

  4. We wish mama chop the best.

Ive had a similar surgery. They cut out my discs and put spacers in place. I have to tell you she will for sure feel better when it is done and over. All the pain I had was gone when I woke up in recovery. Of course I was a little sore from the surgery itself but it pales in comparison to the pain before.

  5. Looking good!

Those look like the same Bessey corner clamps that I have.

When bar clamping on a raw edge I prefer to not clamp directly on the edge. MDF doesnt have a lot of strength in that area. Instead I have some small blocks I cut up from scrap to put on the edge and clamp to that. It helps to distribute the force a little better and not blow out the side. Of course I do tighten the crap out of them too.

Also when I design my build I try to lay the panel edge to the outside and intentionally overcut about a 1/16" or so. Then use a flush trim bit to uh make it flush lol.

Just a couple small suggestions, take it fwiw.

  6. Small sealed = more spl.

    Larger sealed = deeper.

Only a little tho, I would jsut find a nice sloted box

What?  I'm not sure where you got a small sealed would have more spl.  And I've tested an SA8 in a sealed enclosure and it was far from stellar.  Ported is night and day difference.

I do agree on the volume though.  Be sure you give it proper port area.  A single 8 tuned in the mid 30's with proper port area is not a small enclosure.

  7. CEA rated doesn't mean crap.

I dunno I don't think the brutus line is bad for a budget amp.  But I do agree I'd rather get something of higher quality used instead.  I picked up a Sundown SAZ 2000 for $300 last summer.  You just have to be patient and find the right deal.

  8. For me I'd do the 2 15s. A lot more cone area to start with. Then on top of that much easier to have good results vs a 6th order bandpass. A lot of trial and error and tons of tuning time. And you still may end up with less output and a more narrow playband.

    JMO

  9. Wait so your saying just pay the 10$?

I mean Lucas Oil is nothing but a big parking lot with a track anyway lol

If you pay just the $10 entry you have to park out in no mans land outside of the event. In order to park with the team inside the event you have to pay the $40 for a speed pass. That includes 1 passenger I believe.

  10. Do you need to pre register even if you don't compete? I don't know that I will or not. Also someone will have to pick me up a speed pass. No way I'm driving up there, coming home, then driving up there again lol. I think Sean may able to do it for me, if not I need a back up plan.

  11. last year slamology was kinda wack just a giant parkinglot with two small groups of cars... oh andd it was 400 degrees outside lol.

Really? I was there Saturday and IAK, DTF, Team Aftermath, DOA and several people by themselves like Mick, Hack, JP, Hank, Pulse and others were there.

I agree it was hot though. Especially for this WI boy.
