  2. A 72" TV can't be cheap.

Using that with it would be laughable, IMO...you might as well get decent sound to go with it, otherwise, meh...

no it wasnt it was listed for $7,499 i got them down to $6,999 and they threw in a free stand that sells for $800 so i got about a $1,300 discount...

honestly i can kick it up to $1500 for home theater..i just never been into home audio so im hoping i can get something decent with that budget..

  3. thanks

no problem..but that is a great score for 1 sub and stock alt man..good going..you must have had a really great box designed for it..

  4. Thanks Do you guys think if i upgrade my alt i could still get more out of it? I gonna upgrade anyway was just lookin to see i already have and kinetik 2400 in the back thanks for input i want to break the 50 mark

well it wont hurt you..stock alt with that amp and 2 batteries to work with is tough work..throw on a 200-300amp alt and im sure you will hear a difference..

  5. after reading this section i have found out people here pride themselves on diy setups for home use..but i feel i have spent too much time and money on my trucks and not enough on home audio..i currently have a 72'' wide screen and im looking to bring it more alive so to speak..and i was looking into Onkyo HT-SP904 5.1 system with a budget of $700-$800 what do you guys think?

  6. 60% efficiency is pretty good compared to what I'm used to :P

lol. I looked into building a Zen amplifer a while back and I was looking at below 10% efficiency!

What would be a guesstimate for tube amp efficiency? I never really though about it?

The theoretical maximum for a true Class A1 amp (tube or solid state for that matter) is 25%...I haven't put a clamp meter on the monoblocks yet but I'd be surprised if they were above 20%.

Push/pull amps are significantly more efficient. Something like a Dynaco ST70 actually runs pretty cool, while I wouldn't suggest touching the tubes in use the transformers don't get anywhere near as hot as in a SET, for example :)

Actually, some of the most efficient amps in the world are Class C amps that may use tubes, the problem is that without specifically tuned circuits they're prone to all sorts of distortion and nasty harmonics, and such can be only used for very narrow bandwidth applications...mostly RF transmission.

jim, when i read your answers to peoples questions, i feel like your a god among men

  7. i need an amp for 2 ssd's dual 1 ohm 12's with the copper coils in a 4.50cubic ft box i have a couple different amps i like and wanna know which 1 is best ia 20.1,autotek mm2000.1d,us amps md3d, or rf t1500-1bd please help me choose

autotek is a no because thats 2000 watts and again 2k is too much, the us amps is also a 2k watt amp again too much, the 2 choices id go with are

    sundown 1500 watt

the kicker does 1500 watts BUT at 2ohms so no go there

he rockford is a very good amp has well..so basically down to sundown and rockford..i left out ia not because i dont think they are good but sounding like you have a budget ia amp do cost and for the money i dont think much at all beats sun down

  8. Highly suggest not running that much power, you will run into problems.
    problems like wat

when that man tells you not to send that much power to a sub he is very involved in you better take his advice..there are many things that can happen to your sub to keep it from playing..

  9. Another quick question, Will sundown's amplifiers be CEA-2006 rated in the near future?

Nope. They are rated much more conservatively than CEA 2006 calls for, which is how I prefer to do ratings... not a fan of the 14.4 volt standard.

what are you ratings at? i cant remember if its 12.6v or not
