  1. So let me get this straight, clipped signal and unclipped signal wont do harm to speaker, its the overpowering that does? And preout voltages, they really wont change the sound that much if you have your proper settings? For example, I have a headunit with a preout thats 4volts, the only difference this one has to a headunit with a preout @ 2volts is gains are more down than the 2v? Is it worth it to spend the extra money on a headunit with preouts that's 4v compared to 2v?

I apologize if my statements sound ignorant, its the best I got lol.

    You answered your own question.

Q: Is it worth it to spend the extra money on a headunit with preouts that's 4v compared to 2v?

A: And preout voltages, they really wont change the sound that much if you have your proper settings?

oh, cool thanks! i felt like i knew what i was saying i just needed some verification lol.

  3. soo.. the build, what it will consist of is this :

1 Sundown Audio SD-10 powered by my kicker zx400.1 (will be sundown 125.2)

earthquake sound mids and supertweeters powered by my kicker zx350.4 (will be sundown 100.4)

the build is rebuilding a box for the sd-10 because the box i have now is tuned way lower than i wanted it (30-32hz)

also fiberglassing doors for mids and supertweeters.

sorry for the anticipation of something better! this is all i can do for now..

but what i did today was reposition my supertweeters in the back for now.

they were in the holes i cut on the sides but i took them out and they are placed behind the backseats, up top.

  4. Why you don't do PP?

    I have a 100.4 for sale.

ive never done paypal, im only 17 and neither have my parents.. but if we must do paypal i can try to find a way to do it. price?

Just for the record, there is nothing wrong with kicker amplifiers, although they may not always have all the crossover abilities your looking for. :ughdunno:

i agree with you man. i just want sundown amps again. the kicker amps were never really mine, i was borrowing them.

  5. yeahh.. i dont really wann be a bother at all. it just seems that way because i say the wrong things i guess lol. i mean, when something goes wrong, i tell you guys like it is. idk what im doing, ill admit. im no pro or experienced guy in car audio. but i know most of you guys are :peepwall: seems like my questions irritate alot of you guys, so ill lay off the NUMEROUS questions i have. i also admit that i dont really research when im on here. mostly look at build logs and stuff to get build ideas lol. time for a changeee, agreed? sorry to bother anyone.

my kicker 1000.1 has a adjustable ssf, so thats good :)

  6. Damn Kicker amps

Ok. So you're subs were taking full power down to 25 Hz? I'm pretty sure that = overexcursion.

Crap. There goes a nice sub.

You've never watched the sub move at those frequencies? Its always a good idea to keep an eye on the woofer when u play a low song, especially when you dont have an adjustable ssf.

I did when I first had the sub installed. Watched it as I practically played an entire CD of young jeezy and gorilla zoe. No problems. Volume @ 25. I guess it just progressively got worse.

If it was in new condition when you bought it then the suspension loosened up overtime and allowed for more travel, causing it to bottom out.

Nah I bought it used. What sucks is I think it's blown because it still doesn't sound right

Don't sweat it bro. Sometimes you learn the hard way. Like the other guy said, make it a habit to watch your subs play, feel the cones for heat, check for any burning smells. It'll teach you a lot just by observing.

    Yeah... Thanks man.

  9. And uhmm...If you set your gains with a DMM/O-scope/DD-1, you're pretty much guessing because probably don't drive around playing sine waves and you definitely don't know what levels the music you're playing recorded at so...."max power before clipping" is a DIFFERENT gain knob spot for every song...lol

I have yet to buy a DMM lol. Well best regards to you all. I have some studying to do >.<

  10. I mean, I do learn alot here, some things slip I guess. But I have a feeling the sub was already messed up some way before I bought it. I can't tell if a woofer is blown or not.. But the guy I bought it from was a little shady. Not trying to blame others but just showcasing possibilities. Because I know @ volume 25 the sub would be ok, I tested it when I first had it installed.

How did you set the gain?

    By ear :peepwall:

    Wronnggggg way to set gains

Eh, it worked out good. The guys @ alarms etc (local audio shop) helped set it for me.

  12. Sorry guys. Box is 1.25 cubic feet ported tuned 30-31hz. The ssf is around 70hz. Gain is half up. So today I turned the gain all the way down and the sub sounds bad even @ volume 20.

Your ssf is NOT at 70hz....at least i hope it isn't

EDIT: Dammit you mean the lpf is at 70hz. We need to know what your Sub-Sonic Filter is set to? Please tell me you have one?

Umm.. I meant the x-over freq. The subsonic filter is on but there's nowhere to set it at?

  14. Hey guys, driving home tonight listening to my music normally @ around volume 22/60

The song "on my level" my wiz Khalifa played and it's probably one of my hardest hitting songs on my CD. I turned it up to 25/60 about a minute and a half into the song I'm at the red light and my sub was making a terrible noise! Like it was bottoming out. So I immediately turned my music down. When I got home I checked it out, everything seemed fine.. So I tried a little demo this time playing "Late Night Tip" by three 6 mafia and when the bass hit the sub was overflexing and "bottoming out" this time volume was only @ 21. I checked amps gains wires and batteries and everything was fine.. I know I can reach volume 25-26 safely so idk why this happened. Ive never abused the sub ive only had it for a couple of months. Sub is a 10" sundown sa10. I dis buy it used but it was in excellent condition when I bought it. Is it possible it was already bad and I just made it worse? What happened? I don't overpower the sub at all I've never even gone to volume 25 to listen since today. Could amps be sending clipped signals even though amps are ok? My mids and highs are fine. .

Thanks! I really want this solved so I know what not to do in the future.
