    Stock sound deadener

depends on the type of deadener. does it do an effective job? thump on the panel next to it and compare that to a properly dampened panel with damplifier. on my nissan the dampener is very plasticey and brittle. it doesnt do a good job and comes off relatively easily with a scraper. so in my case, i would remove and apply damplifier in its place.

Difference between a big box and small box

Mechanical power handling goes down but thermal is still the same so no reason for coil smell objection your honor. if he has to ask this question do you think he can properly set a gain? i rest my case

Difference between a big box and small box

if you put your BL12 in a big box, it will sound like its in a big box. hearing is one of those things that can be hard to describe. like smell and taste. come to think of it, it will taste like its in a big box, and probably smell like its in a big box (possibly from the coils warming up due to lessened power handling.)

    SSA App anyone? :)

tapatalk is a 2 way deal. you have to have it on your phone, and SSA has to have it installed on the servers.

you can only show pictures of the top of them. but crayon drawings on a napkin of the motors are completely acceptable at this point. come on. the best part of a secret is telling people.

    bl 12 not hitting

if you want it to be loud outside the car, mount it on the outside. you can impress a couple people in your neighborhood with a loud stereo. they are called theives. you can impress a lot of people on this forum if you can get loud inside the vehicle with the windows up, and not raise any eyebrows on the outside.

    SSA Dcon 12"

we're not trying to steer you wrong. the most common complaints i see from people with sealed boxes is a lack of loudness, and not playing low enough. both problems are easily solved with a ported box. plus its a more efficient design so you wouldnt need to upgrade to the JL 500/1. you see what i did there? i just saved you money by not having to buy the bigger amp.

    Making A Box

i would count on using 2 sheets. 4 cubes is a decent sized box. treat your woofer to a nice, well built, double baffled, nicely braced box. and $32 a sheet doesnt sound like much of a sale anyway.

    anyway this will work

negative on the 30x24. which dimension is more flexible, the 30 or the 24? like mentioned, if you bump the 30" to 33" it could work, or the 24" to 28.5". sketchup confirmed

yes! yes! you can sneak a half visible, dark, semi pixelated pic in somewhere. otherwise we are going to start speculating. my guess, since there is secrecy around the motor, is it would be something unique like that neo design scott posted. except an 18" version with a SSA logo. warm or cold?

    help with 18'' fi magnet

an early fully loaded BTL would have a triple stack magnet anyway. the regular BTL was a double stack. but the chrome plates and magnet boots also point away from Fi. id say you got lied to pretty bad. they are someone elses motors reconed with Fi soft parts. get some better pics of the motors and possibly a measurement on the diameter of the slug. they might be an older RE motor or similar

    How big is this enclosure?

since you are in sketchup, right click on the end and hit entity info take the area and multiply it by 144 to get square inches. then multiply by the length to get cubic inches. then divide by 1728 to get cubic feet. you will want to draw out your sides with the proper thicknesses to get an accurate estimate. for example, this enclosure i built recently. the volume was calculated using the area shaded in blue

Fi Q 15" box desgn help ! Too much technicalities

answers in bold How much diameter using round port will be needed - minimum and maximum ? minimum would be a 6" aeroport. an 8" round port would work well but may not be readily available. 2 6" round ports would suffice, or a slot port would be just as efficient How much more power handling the sub gets with flat wind coil alone ? ive always heard ballparks around 250w but it is all install and user dependent Does flat wind coil gives the sub some extra oomph, or its just a coil ? it puts more copper in the coil which helps transfer heat more effectively. it improves the thermal capacity of the coil. thermal capacity is one of the factors in the RMS rating of a sub what material port pipe should i use for best results ... PVC , alumnium or steel ? depends on what is available and what you are comfortable working with. pvc is typically the cheapest and easiest to work with. judging from your english, you are not from the united states so other materials may be more readily available in your area Should i have to brace the box even if using 3/4 mdf ? won't be running more than 600rms to the sub. bracing is highly advised. when airspace is at a premium threaded rod or dowels are effective without using a lot of room can i tune the box to 26hz or maybe lower and still expect a good frequency response? you will be sacrificing a lot of your audible volume and the longer port is going to eat up your airspace. unless you plan to use this box as a home theater later on, i would suggest 32hz. since you are using low power, an 6" aeroport 20.5" in length would give you the proper tuning and give you a net of about 3 cubic feet of airspace.

my suspicions were correct. good job making yourself look really foolish
  17. no gold plated for extra bling? lol. thats not my style anyway. that textured black looks good tho. maybe the nissan section on your website will get some parts added to it soon.

    Free Enclosure Designs

Yeah but I'd say thats a fairly clean whole considering I did it free handed with a sawzall. lol. we all start somewhere, but i burned the pictures of my first box because of how hideous it was. fake it till you make it. dont show stuff like that if you are trying to drum up some business. a customer wants a professionally engineered box regardless of pricing, even if you arent operating on a professional level yet, if you try to put out that image the customer at least gets the benefit of the doubt. that box should be your business card, not something you macguyvered together using an old kitchen cabinet, a roll of duct tape, and a sawzall. the level of quality between ^^that^^ box and the other one makes me question if the same person built them. maybe ask the mods to delete this thread and try a do-over.

    custom vs prefab

well, if it is the typical prefab box then it is probably tuned around 40hz, so building a new box to the recommended specs and a 32hz tune will sound much better.

putting sub in box. what kind of screws?

2-1/2" is kind of long but they will work. if you are using a large sub you might want to find a screw that is a little more heavy duty such as a deck screw line drivers are optional equipment. like anything else, you get what you pay for so if you use one, id stick with a known brand and operate it preoperly any rcas will work to transfer the signal. the question is how much noise will they pick up along the way. some cars tend to have more noise than others, and how you run the wires also plays a role. all that said, a good pair of shielded twisted pair rcas will reduce the chance for noise. that doesnt mean you need $200 rcas, but splurge a little bit for some quality cables.

fi btl 18 keeps braking screws

ive had good results using "premium deck screws" from lowes. the ones i have are #8x1-5/8" which is thicker than most of the drywall screws i see a lot of people using. if you look hard enough you can find #10s as well. you might have to look up your local fastenal in your yellow pages though to get them. FYI the # is the diameter of the screw shank. larger # = thicker screw if i had access to a laser cutter, i would start making some brackets to mount inside the box that are tapped for a 1/4" machine screw or similar. the brackets would have to be 2 piece, 4 mounting holes per bracket, and probably cut from 1/4" or possibly 3/8" steel. there, my idea is out in the open for someone to steal and profit from. all i ask is for a few free sets of said brackets once you get up and running.
