yea, the trunk will fit 6 cu. ft, but it was a struggle to fit 3.1 throught the opening i guess if its a well planned box for the car
-
wow good luck fitting that in there i wish i could buy one more maw15 and run two, but id never fit a proper enclosure, and i have a taurus hah
-

sorry to ask in advance so much, but how will these do on lower power (1400 watts or so) because I know all of us dont have 2.5k watts on tap

Which subs sound better in what box.

I have a 96 Taurus also and a MAW-15, I think I can help. I put it in a 3.1 cu. ft. box and it pretty much takes up the whole trunk. You probably can design a box to better fit it, but I dont think youre going to be able to fit a 6 cu. ft. box due to the fact itll have to be at least 16" high and pretty deep. But my one MAW-15 does an excellent job and is more than enough for what I need, and the box is tuned to 28 hz, so Im thinking one will be fine ported if you want to save some money. -
I have mine gain set to 800 watts on a hifonics amp, so Im guessing its more like 6-700 watts. Honestly, I wouldnt push it over that.

Hey, well about two months ago, I put it my sub amp (hifonics 1606d) in with a temporary sub from my home theater set up. Immediately I noticed there was a really loud hissing, even when the RCA's were disconnected. I figured it was a ground, so I tried another spot, with the same results. I left it alone untill I install my speakers and amp, which is now. I finished installing my comps, wired everything up and it was all fine. But i noticed a really faint high pitched noise when the engine is on or off. I have a switched wired to the remote wire of the sub amp. When i turn that on, it turns into a real loud whine, although i cant tell if it changes with engine speed, I'm pretty sure it does. Now fr what I've done: -Relocated the ground on both amps -grounded the rca ouputs on the H/U (kenwood) - Ran an RCA cable straight to the amps in the middle of the car - checked grounds with a dmm (didnt even show a reading) So I'm pretty stumped, and I attempted to reground the headunit, but my harness is different (96 taurus) and I believe the center unit has a larger power and ground coming into it and the seperate electrical devices feed into that, because i disconnected the headunit ground and it worked and the problem didnt worsen or improve. Also, what I find really weird, and leads me to believe it is more of a ground issue somewhere, is that when i step on the brakes or adjust the electric mirrors, the front speakers pop. Please let me know if you have had a similar situation and have any solutions. Thanks

If you can provide adequate power and space for the mj-18 ported, Im sure you will have an obvious winner. Although it seems as though you cant go wrong with either. The 15 will be easier to provide ideal conditions for( ex. you can wire it to 2 ohms, smaller box)

copied and pasted from his car domain: right now for the system i'm running 1 15" Mach 5 Audio MAW15, powered by 1 coustic 600se in a 2 cu/ft box, with 2 4" aeroports ported @ 45hz. hmm, seems small. I thought you get a better score with a bigger box?
-
Very nice. Glad to hear it worked out. Ill be getting one myself soon too.
-
x2 ^ looks nice. extremely crappy sound in the video, but a video at that.
-
x2 ^ You seem to be a fan of the maw 10's. Didnt you run three?
-
Very nice. Looks like theyre not moving much, but with that much cone area.......well....... I'm going to go with one ported for now, and later if I want to upgrade, Ill try two sealed.
