Would it make a difference to completely seal off the trunk ?
Micksh replied to TranceAddict's topic in Advanced Discussion
There's actually a bunch of my old install pics in my gallery, but most are of large systems with walls, but there is one trunk with subs firing back and another install firing forward but you can't see the front of the box. -

Typically if you want to fire it forward, you need to seal it off from the back of the trunk completely. Otherwise you'll end up with some cancellation. -
Need help with box for a couple sa-12's

Believe they publish 19mm one way -
Welcome! Everyone has their own taste and opinion in equipment so you are going to get many different brands people talk about! That's what makes audio fun, getting results in different ways!

Thought you guys might find these interesting for a 3" driver!

So, I was browsing around on Parts Express, and found these.... http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=296-220 ...I am sure from the $170 (each) price tag they are some amazing little drivers, but still the specs amazed me...12 mm Xmax and supposedly flat response from 40-20000 Hz...in a 3" driver...CRAZY! -
Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the opinions. Will definitely try to give a review of the sub later!
-
As long as it sounds the way I hope it does, I'll be happy...like the way it turned out, though I may change the trim panel over the plexiglass, not sure if I like the "random" shape I made it or not yet.
-
Now that it's basically done, just waiting as patiently as possible...sigh...
-
Geez...all these youngsters with their first sytem a year ago...lol. Here's one of my early ones, but not my first...
-
Just have to make a lid for the storage compartment now. I just can't WAIT til the sub gets here! Hurry up Sundown! Lol!

Trim panel over the plexiglass window (coating is obviously still on it)

Some more...

So it's time to try and finish this thing...it's carpet time!
-
I'll definitely post my progress...want to have it finished before the sub gets here! (Though I hope it's soon!)

Thanks, I definitely will give a thorough review. I used to build a lot of vehicles to compete in USAC (full SQ and SPL) and a little IASCA so I have heard quite a few good setups. Plus heard some great cars from other big-time competitors in the past too.

That was kind of my aim...a nice "up front" sounding bass. I had a 12 in the center sealed, and for a cheap su it sounded pretty good so I'm hoping this 8 is all people say it is and I'll be really happy!
-
I just can't wait to hear that SA-8!!!
-
Looks great...amazing how a trim panel changes the WHOLE look of the install! Gonna be LOUD! I need to build a groundpounder in the near future again...
-
Thanks...actually, just uploaded a bunch of pics into my gallery earlier. They are mostly pics from working at a shop for about 10 years from 1992-2001

Yeah I don't think I made my thoughts clear...I don't mean this driver in a 3-way setup, but a 3-way setup in general rather than trying to get full-range reproduction from a 3" driver... -
It probably won't in the box I'm building, it's tuned at about 37....but hoping it sounds good with pretty good output!
-
I'm going to be adding a Lexan window to view that little beast, and of course clean up the edges and cover it...

The top piece (going to have a small bit of storage in there)... Top on....
