Which brings up a nother confusing subject on my part. The Fi site now says the 15 is 1500watt rms. So if the sub is dual 1 ohm, amp can be ran at 1ohm for the 1500 watt? But is the 15 actually 1500watt now or did they misstype?
Dual one ohm is .5 or 2 ohm. Depending on the way you wire it. You want dual 2 ohm to run an amp at 1 ohm. Do a search for wiring dual vc subs.

Like you said, you can't go wrong with any of them. Have you looked at how they model? I'd like to see which would go lower, and louder. Also what size box would be needed.

The Dayton doesn't get brought up here as much as the others. I like that it has triple shorting rings. Nothing else in its price range does. This lowers distortion and le. Low le allows them to play higher, like to 250hz. Also the Ho version likes very little boxes.

Morel is known to be a very high end driver manufacturer. I don't think that these would be their best effort. That could be why they showed up at Amazon. Also it looks like the price went up on these. I saw a post on another forum where the price was around 80-90 bucks! I'd try the IA.

a little harsh don't you think? they were on sale and unfortunately i missed it by a month. oh well, funds were the issue. the ia components show up on amazon as well
i ended up buying the morels simply because i had a budget of about $250 to finish deadening and get come decent components; and they were cheaper. i'll buy a dcon or two to support the ssa community soon
Maybe, I didn't mean to be harsh. Morel is a great name. And I haven't heard these. So who knows! Not
me, I just voiced my thoughts.

I ordered my Fi SSD 15" on the 16th of Aug. Think the payment didn't go thru till the 18th. And just last night got notification that it's shipped out. Maybe I got lucky, they said 30 day lead build time and it's already being shipped. Best part of it all is yesterday was my bday and I caught word it was coming. So stoked
hope you get your sub soon!
Happy B-day!

I can help you on the design, or build a box if you want. I'd get another xcon if I were you. Unless you don't want two run 2 12's. Then I'd look at a 15. There are more options but they would cost more, and you might need to get creative to fit them in the trunk.

My brother almost messed his pants one morning. He had brought his bosses truck home and left the dire straits brothers in arms cd playing. It was on one of those 2 min intros, (i don't remember the song) but the drums just hit out of no where. he didn't even know the cd was on! You can figure out what happened.
This was the mid 90's and I remember that truck had a very nice stereo for the time.

Fs on those tweets is 3720hz no way in hell could you play even close to Fs, let alone below it.
Fwiw a good rule of thumb is to always crossover at least twice fs. So in this case 7440 Hz. Also bigger drivers start to "beam" above a certain frequency do to their size. I don't know the frequency off hand but most 6" drivers are crossed at 2000hz

I have two 12" s4 dcons for sale if you are interested. The IA 187 is a very nice woofer.
I'd look into these. Going to d4 will only give you 50 watts more per sub. It's harder on the amp and won't give you much more db. Also saves time waiting on them to be built, plus $$$.

Why 32Hz?
Because everyone is doing it! LOL its just a guess as far as I can tell.
Fwiw. It should give him a 4 db peak around tuning in 3 cf.

There is a big price difference. I like the DCON because you don't have to upgrade everything and buy a big amp!

Ok I wouldn't try just one. There output is just to low. Using 2 the sealed part of the box should be .46cf ported (front chamber) is .7cf. Ports are tuned to 58hz. Three 3" ports 34.75" long. You will need to subtract the port displacement etc.
F3 is 39hz and you can use 350 watts without going over xmax. But the vc might melt. LOL

It should, have you used winISD before? It won't model cabin gain. But you can see the difference between different tunings.
I havnt. Is it free to download? Ive heard of it ill look into it . Thanks
Yes it is free, search for the version .7 you will need to find out what t/s specs to enter. You only need about 8 and it will fill in the rest. You just need to enter the correct ones. It's picky.

You can run the wires though the port also. Birch may need more bracing. But it is lighter and nicer to work with than MDF. Getting the design right is the bigger issue. Go for it! Have fun. It will be a very rewarding experience.

I think this might come down to sealed versus ported. You are trying to compare apples to oranges. I second trying both. If you have the sa-12 but not the mtx. Just try out the sa-12, chances are he won't want to take it out! Lol

Arg! The kicker is in a 5cf box. Not the mtx. I had guessed that it was 3 in the first post.
Sorry this is the second time I've posted confusing stuff on this thread.

i went from 2 15" l7's to 2 12" mtx 9500 12's in there recommended ported boxes on a kicker zx1500.1 and the mtx's i found were better all around. they had ALOT better sq and got damn loud. id take the mtx's
I think your right. The L7 isn't mine though. Also the mtx is in a 5cf box.

Listened to the car, I'm not impressed. The box looked slapped together. Box and port face back and the box seals up the trunk. It didn't sound good at all.
But he likes it! Lol

JL has very good info on there website. I'd look there first. If you want to go 4bp I might be convinced to model it for you.

Does anyone know what the record is for spl? And is there a list anywhere that shows spl by frequency?

I voted b - though I'd try to find a few more cf.

WinISD is free modeling software. There are several versions. The one to get is .7 if you have never used it before it has a bit of a learning curve. Solo x models nice. What are you wanting out of it?

Are you modeling this with anything or just guessing? I use WinISD. If you would like to find out what your tuning and box size changes it is a great place to start.

You don't want to guess, please give a depth measurement also. And make sure that you can fit this into your trunk. One last thing, to be even cooler, make a bandpass box ported the same way! Although I don't think you could make it fit!
