  1. I know a lot of people have built their own sub boxes or have had one custom done for their needs. For the people that have built their own. How hard would you say it is? also are there any diy's out there?

I build boxes. It can be quite easy - or a PITA. What tools do you have? What setup are you planning on(subs, amps, car, etc.)?

  2. Fwiw, I know that you are not planning on using any filters on the speakers. If you don't like how they sound I can most likely find out what they need with out measuring. Many people have used those drivers so an answer should be out there. (If you are close, (I live in MI) I have a measurement system.)

  3. When people say use birch, they mean baltic birch. It is 13 ply and void free - and cost about $70 a sheet. The birch part doesn't matter. It is just what veneer is used. I'm cheap so I use the 9 ply A/C plywood at Home Depot. Way better than MDF. It is about $45 a sheet. Mdf is $32

Marine grade plywood = Baltic Birch = 13 ply void free, FWIW

Comes with everything you need including preassembled cabinets. You solder together the crossovers, install the speakers, wire everything up. It'll be a little project but should still be relatively simple for a novice as long as you can solder.

A bit more money but way better speaker:

If you can build the box your self you can get the kit for 125 with out it.

Also what are you looking for, price, size, what is important to you?

  5. Should I be looking at the gain or spl tabs? This is the spl tab. Ill put the skar in too and post the gain tab when I get home. I have an analog DB meter that goes up to 125 I could use. Would that one work? And if so what do you want me to do with it?

SPL, Although all the tabs will give useful info. You should play with the size and tuning of the box to see if one of these likes a different box. And check on the excursion also.

If you go to WinISD's Face Book page you can dl the latest version of the software. I really like it but you might have to reenter the drivers.

  6. skar subs were also designed by the same person. If you look at the three, you will see some of the same "designs" used. All are good subs. I think that they will a sound similar. Also none of them are made in the USA. I would guess they are all made in the same build house.

I would like to see a comparison between these.

Just caused they are designed by the same person doesn not mean they share the same design. Different subs with different goal that share a common rms number or price tag (give or take a few bucks).

Please don't take it as they are all the same. They are not. I didn't mean to make it sound like that. This is why I would like some one to compare them.

  8. Going to be paneling off the front and the trunk with beauty panels sealing off the trunk from the cabin and leaving display windows for the amps in the trunk.

But the amp is up side down! All the db's are going to fall out! LOL! Just messing with you. I have never had a problem with an amp mounted to a box. If your box flexes enough to break the amp you need a better box!

  9. this really isn't a funny pic or anything but it is a very funny clip! just watch it for a few minutes!

and I know there is a guy on this forum who put a home audio sub in his back seat, to do this he used a 12vdc to 120vac so he could plug the speaker in!:) i wish I could find this picture or thread it is truly priceless install!

That is just sad, I noticed he never turned it on. (I'm guessing the car didn't run)
