  1. I think it is just more of an extry level. Will put out 1500Watts rather then underrated. It likely will not be able to handle 1/2 ohm either.

That doesn't sound right, considering the production SAE-1000D is rated down to 1 ohm, and Jacob even said the prototype has been tested to 1 ohm.

Sorry for the confusion, by 1/2 Ohm I meant .5 Ohm.

  2. Sounds like the SAE-1500D would be a nice fit for a pair of RL-i8s? Same output as a SAE-1000D minus the warranty?

Yep, that prototype does roughly the same power as the current SAE-1000D.

Just to drive it home... the production SAE-1500D *will* meet power ratings no problem :) This is a prototype and improvements are being made as we speak.

    Yeah, I hear ya.

Just curious, what's the difference between the SAZ-1500D and the upcoming SAE-1500D? Is the SAE class A/B?

  3. It looks Chinese to me, but it might not be... I know the basket, but havent really seen any US production with a chrome one. The toolng is available for it in China, but there is a design patent on it from the original designer here in the US

The only way I for me to know what I can do to it is to have it in house to see and measure from. Is it blown?

I have a pair of them. They are not blown as of yet but they are not long for this world. Trying to get my options in line.

  4. Looks like the eclipse basket...and already has the smaller spider flange...i'm sure we can do a recone for it, you'd have to send it in though.

Can it be reconed toa SPL 10", do I have any options for increased power handling, what is the cost gonna be like?

  5. Well guys, after getting haggled so bad at the last FX comp, I decided I needed to do something different for this comp.

    A 140 is not sufficient for 2 12's and 2 1500D's.

I had 3 issues I needed to fix...

    1. I was running a single run of 4 ga for 2 1500D's...Obviously a HUGE bottleneck on the amps. Now have a run of 1/0 per 1500D.

    2. I had a prefab box which we tossed in the Cavi trunk to hold us out for the day...chit box, will have a newly designed box for this one, maybe a version of "CRX style".

    3. For some reason the final load on the subs last time was 3.5 ohms (dual 2 subs). We didnt have time to check it, so we put it in a let it go. Discovered that one of the subs coil connectors was loose, now have a nice 2.1ohm load betweent the two.

So we have fixed our issues and are not doing the build. Oh, forgot to mention it is going into a new car for this comp. I am not gonna reveal what kind yet, but it should be good.

Anyways, I will post some pics of the old cavi setup for you guys.

Oh, and this time we will be running capless...Cap was dumb!

  6. right on man, thats great!

Rob was a great guy to do business with.

I will give that a try tonight, thanks alot!

What size fuse should i use?

Will I have problems running at 1 ohm with 105amp alt

I dont think my voltage is dropping that badly.......unless im just idleing......

Since you only have 4 gauge wire I wouldn't go higher than a 100 amp fuse. You really need 1/0 wire, at which point you would use a 150 amp fuse.

You can run the 1500D @ 1 ohm with a 105 amp alternator, sure, but how well depends on how you treat the volume knob. The 1500D can draw over 160 amps at full output, this WILL drop your voltage to battery level or less. So, if you are calling for the amplifier to produce it's full output on a consistent basis, then no, it won't work very well for you.

If you can't upgrade the alternator now... at least get the biggest starter battery that you can cram under the hood. I fit one almost twice as bit as stock under the hood in my Civic!

As a reference, I have a 105 Amp alt, red top under hood and big 3 and the 1500D at 1 ohm is just fine. Dims the lights if I pound it hard, but no real issues.

  7. I would like to get this sub reconed to 10" for SPL only. It is rated at 600 watts rms but I have burped it at over 5k no issues. Dual 2 woofer. What kinda options do I have as far as recone goes?

    Got some pics here:

  8. Jacob (sundown) does not currently sell new models direct. But his dealers do ;)

SSA being one of them. But I would talk to the Fi tech guys to see what they say about running that much power (upwards of 1400 from the RF) to the SSD.

They are going to say they HIGHLY dont recommend it as I have asked that question already. I would look at the SAE-1000D, if you are looking to go cheaper, a PB ASA-1000.1D would be decent as well.

  9. hi, i am going to be getting 2 12" SX and i am looking for an amp for them. they are only dvc2 so the ohm loads it can either be .5, 2 if i get a mono amp or 1 or 4 ohm if i get 2 mono amps. i would like to be as cheap as possable as that means i can get them sooner. which is a good thing. i was thinking of 2 md1d or a md3d if i can find out if they are .5 ohm stable. any suggestions?

DO you have the electrical for a Sundown amp at .5ohms? Would be right around the power range you would be looking for.

  10. ok well this thread got jackked!

haha kidding but yeah i have a chit load of room so i think im going tp try to tuck a g31 under the hood and a g31 or 2 in the trunk as well.

Mike, start with one under the hood and a big-3, In Kyles, the car took well to a Gen 34 red-top under the hood as a start...Then the big 3.
