  1. I finally got my stuff all set up... is there any competitions around. Mass or new hampshire? Id really like to atleast go and see everyone elses cars.. im new to this but i have always loved car audio.
  2. I have borrowed a tektronix TAS 475 four channel oscilloscope. It dosnt have the probes with it, i need to get them. And i want to use this to set my amplifier. So how do i make sure im testing my amp at 1 ohms? And what probes should i get? Any suggestions or tips for this would be extremly helpful. Im going to be testing a ppi bk1300.1d
  3. Thankyou everyone for your input. My last set up i tuned by ear and that was easy to hear distortion. But this new sub is alot louder and its a lot harder to hear the distortion.. if its distorting.... and also my electrical isnt up to par so i cant sit and listen to it like focusing hard... lol but i guess ill just adjust as i go. Like one click down or up depending how the songs i listend to sounded.
  4. But the ssd is rated for 1000rms. Cooling is supposed to give it 300-500 more... did i just waste the 30 bucks for the cooling?...
  5. So if i use the oscope to set my gains with a test tone at like idk what my bass boost is on my amp.. but ill look it up and use that frequency.. and have my head unit at +3 for subwoofer. And my bass knob maxed.. but i always leave my subwoofer level at 0. Would i ever get any clipping? And i dont use bass boost on the hu or on the amp. Would i just be over safe?... i bought the ssd15 with the cooling feature.. thats it. It is in a 2.5 cuft box tuned to 33ish hz.. am i just being to worried? Right now when i play the sub with 1300rms it gets quite warm after one song that hits hard.. this is why i wanted to try and set my gain "right".. so i dont burn it up... the port is 18.125 x 2.25 so its about 16^2in to cuft.
  6. Wow... lmao i thought iv read so many times like this is how to set it to its absolute maximum... how is this untrue? Because clipping really isnt that bad depending on the severity.. like i just spent 300 on a sub and 200 on an amp and if i burn either there is no way id be able to replace them. Lol but i could have sworn this was how to get the absolute most performance out of your amp... damn.. so just a dmm?...

    port ratio.

Why is it bad to have the height to width ratio larger than 1:8? I made a box that is too small.... and thats the only i really can make my box tund low enough... i fucked up and now im out 2 sheets of mdf and a lot of time and effort... damn..

ssd15 box decision... i need help..

Well even though no1 helped me i decided to make the box ported and it is roughly 2.4 cuft tuned around 33 hz. Btw it slamms way harder than my x12 i replaced with this. Where is the cheapest place for some bondo?... lol
  9. I made a box and it ended up being only 3.5cuft... so i can either just seal it and the sub would fit just fine... but i would much rather ported because my experience it is much louder... but if i went ported the port would be 18.125" x 2.25" and the box would only be about 2.5 cuft... tuned around 32.. so i went through 2 sheets of mdf to look at it and say that its too small.... any suggestions? Should i just seal it and wait till i feel up to getting another sheet of mdf to make a ported? Because i have it so close to being ported... like face is cut and everything... it will be much easier to make it ported.. but idk... i need help.

Do I Need Longer Aero Ports?

By making them longer it will only tune it lower.. you will need larger size diameter for more port area.
  11. Briggiboy33

    port ratio.

So if my port was 18.125" x 2.25" is it gunna mezsed up?

ssd15 box decision... i need help..

Well i had to form the box around ny seat of my truck... so its all weird shapes... but i have a picture of the box with all the dimensions and what not.. but i cant post on here because i dont have a computer... i use my phone... but the box would be 2.5 cuft with the port 18.125" x 2.25" tuned to 32 hz.... but would my ssd sound better in that or in the sealed box? Thats my question. Btw i want louder if possible... but still go on music... so i need my 32 hz tuning.

ssd15. would one 6" port be enough?

I think im going to cut up my box a little abd make a 18 1/8th" x 3" slot port. And hopefully be able to tune the box quite a bit lower! Lol its tuned around 35 or so and its too high for my taste... i believe my box has a rather flat response but i dont feel it is nearly as loud as i was hoping it to be. So im going with a bigger port tuned lower.
  14. I currently have a ssd15 in about a 4cuft box with an 8" sonotube port... the port i believe is causing unloading problems because it is so long it is basicaly resting o. The motor of the sub. So would one 6" pvc port be big enough? Ill flare the ends either making fiberglass flares or heating the pvc up annd forming it around a dog water bowl. But please... im getting slightly aggrivated...

ssd15. would one 6" port be enough?

Alright well i think im going to try and make a fiberglass right angle for my sono tube then to hopefully fix the unloading issue...
  16. Alright well does it matter what voice coil gets wired first? I got a ssd15 and it has 3 out of 4 stickers were black... you know the stickers that say pos or neg... but i need to wire my dual 2 to 1 ohm and wanted to make sure it didnt matter what terminal was first
  17. Lol alright ill go get some. Andthankyou!
  18. Alright so im not going to buy the crimpers for one time use... i was at homedepot and picked up plumbers solder... ik everyone says use electrical solder... whats the difference? And will the plumbers solder be good enough?... im using 1 guage to a 1300rms amp.
  19. Iv planned to run my wire straight down from my battery to the frame and along the frame to the very back of my cab where i found a rubber grommet that i will put my wire through. I was so fricken excited when i found that gromet.. then i was trying to decide how to bring it to the bbattery without.hanging or getting caught on anything. The frame is perfect because it will sheild it from anything that could harm it.. im so excited when my wire comes it i dont even have to take my carpet up! Lmao its gunna take like 10 mins vs the hour or so to run it through the firewall and under all the carpet. Any reason not to do it this way?
  20. I ordered 1 guage wire and it should be in soon. I have 8guage running to my 2channel now that was drilled through my firewall. Is there any other ways to get such a large wire through? Id rather not put that big of a hole in my vehicle. What are my options? As always all help is very much appreciated
  21. I currently have a stock alt thats 70amps... but im putting in a 1300rms amp and a 70rms 2channel... i was wondering if i could get a cheap alt so i wouldnt have to worry about my voltage. I have all stock electrical, and stock battery no big 3... big 3 is going to happen very soon. But after that id like to upgrade alt... how much would this cost me for a 06 tundra. V8 4.7L
  22. Thanks man ill definatly have to look into that
  23. Yeah the junk yard seems the way to go... lol just takes research... idk im not really at this point yet but just wanted an idea.. but there is no way id pay 600 for an alternator thats not very big... lol
  24. Well is there any way to fit 1 guage into one of those factory firewall holes where all the wires go through?
