    Atomic AP/SPL 12"

Right off from Atomic's page. No T/S :/ * APSPL 12, Available in DVC 0.7, 1.0, 1.4 and 2.0 ohms * Rigid Die cast aluminum basket * Organic long fiber non-pressed cone body for accurate tight bass * Curvilinear Kevlar reinforced cone body * Extended neck joints on cone, coil and spider strengthen the integrity of moving structure for high power capacity * Butyl rubber surround heavy duty and forever lasting. * Compressed mounting ring gasket * Vented coil for extra heat dissipation * 2-1/2 inch high temp aluminum voice coil * Extended, machined cut one piece back plate * Powerful 1 inch thick 90 oz high energy magnet Summary: This is a very powerful little driver. Its rated at 1k conservatively but can and will handle 2k daily. I ran mine off from an Incriminator Audio 20.1 @ .7 The sub performed excellently!! When I first received the sub the first thing that came to my mind was, wow this is one beefy sub!!! It has tensil leads which personally I love. Most people will look at this sub see the 2.5" coil and assume it can't take a lot of power. People also look at its spec's, 18mm Xmax and a FS of 38 and assume its purely a SPL oriented sub. This is not true! Not by a long shot! This is a very musical sub and had no trouble pounding out the lows! To sum this up, this is one kick butt sub woofer. It has the potential to get hella loud and still maintain an exceptable amount of SQ. Strength:Were to start, This is one beefy sub. It can handle 2k Daily and has mad potential to get loud. It had no trouble pounding out the lows and was decently accurate! I ran some double bass drum songs through it and was very impressed. It wasn't at the level of my 8W7 but it was not sloppy by any means! Weaknesses:Not many weaknesses to this sub. One that I did notice that it is very particular about what size box it likes. My first box was around 3.5-3.7 cubes and it did not perform well. It had trouble with the lows and was not as loud as expected. These subs need between 2.3-3 cubes to shine. I would not suggest going smaller or larger then that. I am by no means an expert or sub guru. This is my personal take on this sub. I'm sure there are other people out there who would disagree with some of the things I've said. This is just my take on the sub. Jon

    Ported enclosure issues

Should be 'net' not 'gross.'Isn't Net air space, what your sub has to use after port/sub/brace disp??? Least thats the way I've always thought about it. Gross was total air space and net was total air space that the sub uses... Just trying to clarify... Jon

    Ported enclosure issues

There is no reason why you can't achieve a tuning of 33 or less in that space. I never use WinISD so idk why it says you can't. I've found the best way to do ported enclosures is to do it all by hand. This formula is all you need. You just need to know how much gross air space you have, how much port are you want and what tuning you want to have. With those 3 variables this formula will give you correct port length needed. Then if you really want to be accurate you'll need to account for "end correct factor" which is very easy. All you need to do is take half your port area and add it to your port length. LV= Port Length Av= Port Area Vb= Gross air space Fb= Desired freq Hope this helps you out a little bit... Jon

Power:500 Wrms / 1000 peak Summary:This is one amazing sub!!! Words can not explain how happy I was with my LI. The LI was my first sub and what a first sub it was!! As soon as I got this first thing that I noticed was the build quality! Very well built sub. I had it hooked up to a bahn A8000T ( I know I know) in 3.7@28Hz. Lets just say this much, as hard as I tried I could not get this sub to miss a beat. Heavy metal with strong fast double bass drum couldn't even make the LI miss a step, the LI just excelled! I also had a fart box made, 2.5@45Hz. People were blown away at the amount of sound this "no name POS" sub could put out. Sadly I never got it metered. In my opinion this is thee best sub in the $150 range. Strength:The was one strong driver. I ran it at 800w daily for 3-4 months with no side of failure or fatigue. This sub has been known to take 1-2k burps and put up some impressive numbers! Weaknesses:To be honest, I can not think of any real weaknesses to the LI. The guys at Incriminator really did an amazing job. In my opinion you'd be very hard pressed to find a fault with this sub. Again these are all my personal opinions on the sub. I have had a limited amount of subs to deal with but so far this has been my favorite! Jon

    Another Port Question...

Ok I was watching Mythbusters last night and they were making a wind tunnel. They used a "honey cone"effect by using straws to help the air transition to the tunnel from the fan (or blower) better. I was wondering if this could be put to use in the car audo world??? Make a regular slot port and fill it with straw (like) tubes to the proper length. Very little surface area per straw and lots of straws. I was just wondering about that last night and figured I'd see if anyone here has ever tried or thought about it??? Your incite is appreciated... Jon

IA Single Cab Truck Build--30+ pics

Ok this build is up on most of the forums but I figured I'd put it up over here as well. There are a lot of pictures so I'll try and only put the important ones in here... Here are the first 2 peices... Working around the stupid hump in the back wall. Here is a picture of the back, this is at a slight angle which is causing all sorts of hell with trying to line everything up. Another shot Once again, those are all test pieces. The only "good" pieces I have are in the first 2 pictures. Pretty much the bottom, back, and the small hump. Another close up of the internal driver side. Shot of the drivers side. All those pieces are finished. Internal of the drivers side... Shot of the drivers side in the truck Another shot of the drivers side in the truck What I have to work around. Passengers side First piece on.. Over all shot of progress so far Passenger side is on Here is after several hours work with 2 friends. The other box you see is what I had the Atomic in... The recess will be for the amp. Its to deep right now but I'll fix that tomorrow. The amp will be flush with the front baffle when its done. Another shot of the amp rack. Wonder what those are for??? Hmm what idiot puts packing peanuts in an enclosure??? All filled up! Thats a lot of peanuts!!!!!!! Sub recess... Port shape and front baffle... Front baffle... Again front baffle. Sub in its soon to be home... Look at the butt on that thing MMMMM Quad coils :eyebrow: Pic of the recess... Again pic of the recess.... The box in the truck, very very tight fit!! As you can see, part of the box will be vissible, I think I'll paint that part of it black, just so it doesn't stick out. Another little "fix" I had to make so the box would fit. I'm waiting on the pieces to dry so I can put them on the box... What it will look like with the seat back and out of the way... From the passenger side... Pieces I'll use to box out the nob for the seat.. The other nob piece... Looking through the passengers window... Fewwww that was a lot of pictures! lol. Let me know what you guys think. If you have any ideas suggestions or criticisms feel free to voice them! If your gonna say, "you should of glassed it" I know I know, lol. I wanted to try to do it all with MDF. Was more of a challenge. I also had to sheets of MDF sitting around which I didn't have to pay for. Let me know what ya think.. Jon

IA Single Cab Truck Build--30+ pics

Yea, that has been my problem from the start. Not having enough space. I can fit around 3-4 fairly easy without a complex design. Maybe I'll just try a single 10 if I can find one that stokes my interest, ie: Brahma, older XXX ( if they come in 10's I don't remember.) Trouble is stuff like that is hard to find. I know TC has some beefy looking 10's I might look into them. What would you suggest for single 10 that has a lot of low end??? I have an IA 20.1 for power so 450@4ohm, 900@2ohm, and 1800@1ohm for power. Thanks.. Jon

IA Single Cab Truck Build--30+ pics

Not really. Bracing was just one of the problems I ran into. The more and more I think about it the more I don't want to try and fight the DP into the truck. I'm leaning more and more toward 10's. Drop the tuning to between 27-30Hz and see how they do. I'm waiting on a price quote for some SI BM 10's. If the price is right I will probably be running SI in the future... Jon
