    Define Loudness

Awesome, another Matrix owner with a D2 Ive ran my 15" D2 in both sealed and ported enclosures and it sounded really really nice in both setups (2.8ft^3 sealed, 3.2ft^3 ported <---too small, I know). I can tell you that if you went with the 15 and sealed it you would be completely satisfied with the results in both loudness and clarity. Or you could go ported and rip apart a city block.....
  2. It was a local audio shop's competition that I heard about and entered at the last minute (I got metered at their last one with my previous setup: 2 RF HX2 subs on a 1001D Fosgate amp and I got a 146.0) This time around..... 159.9 outlaw on SPL170 mic (I think this is the right mic) Second overall, first in class Running one 15" D2 on a Hifonics 1500D in 3.2ft^3 @ 32Hz enclosure I was satisfied with my score and I think I suprised (and scared) some people
  3. In the damned school parking lot! Some guys wanted to take a listen at my Magnum 15" so I started up my car and cranked it up for about 10 seconds or so of solid bass to let them see just how clean and loud it would go, and then a few minutes later a cop pulled into the parking lot and got out to have a word with me. He said when he drove by it was playing at an "unreasonably loud level" and that he turned his car around to investigate it. He went back to his damned car and wrote me a ticket for disorderly conduct. I told him that I didnt think there was any reason for me to get a ticket because I always keep it turned WAY down in residential areas and late at night, and that there was nobody around for it to really bother when I turned it up for all of 10 seconds there in the parking lot. He didn't even give it a second consideration, just handed my ticket to me and drove off (and btw, he asked for my liscence and registration--both of which I had-- even though I was sitting there parked in a parking lot). Great, so now I have to call the courthouse tommorow and see just how much I owe for this stupid thing and to see if there is anything it can get amended down to (and also if this will take points off my liscence/jack up insurance <---which will piss me off even more). Stupid fatass old man with a badge

    post your stories

A guy at my school has a Jimmy with four 12"s in it. Two of them are JL 12w7's and two of them are some sort of new Audiobahn subs (why he mixes and matched them I dont know). He has a JL1000/1 pushing the two 12w7's and another ~600 watt amp pushing the two Audiobahns... ...this isnt really a success story, though, because it was really no contest...ill continue now... ...anyways, everyone at school thought that his system was just absolutely godly and that nothing could get louder, but obviously no one had ever heard a Magnum. His install was absolutely terrible! He had all four subs sitting in a sealed box (2 on top, 2 on front) that couldnt have been more than 4ft^3, and the amp settings were all set to their factory settings (gains way too high, filters all the way down). Anyways, one day as I was coming to school I thought I would show off a little bit so I turned my 15" Magnum up and rolled down my windows as I was pulling into the parking lot. There was a free spot right behind his Jimmy for me to park in so I switched my song over to Lil Jon's Knockin' Heads Off and pulled up right behind him. You should have seen him break his neck to try and see what kind of beast had pulled up behind him B) He got out and asked how many subs I had back there...I told him I just had one 15 and more or less this is what happened: :thud: Loudest and cleanest sub I have ever heard
  5. I had my new audio equipment installed today, and Ive got a few questions that Im hoping a few of you can answer for me, mostly about my amp Im running my 15" D2 off a Hifonics BX1500D wired at 1-Ohm, and the sub itself is in a 3.2ft^3 enclosure ported @ 32Hz. Im running 4-gauge interconnects from KnuKonceptz and using an Alpine CDA-9827 Head Unit (4-Volt subwoofer out). I know a few of you here are running the same amp I am, which is why I decided to ask this here Anyways, this is my first big install and I am pretty much clueless when it comes to setting my amp settings correctly: SSF (15-35Hz, currently set to 25Hz) Bass Eq (1-18db, currently set on 4db or 5db) Low Pass (35Hz-250Hz, currently set at around 80Hz) Phase (0-180, currently set on 0) Gain Level (.2V-9V, currently set at 4 or just under 4) Anyone see some changes that I should make to these settings? Also, what should I set my Bass Control knob too (0-18db)?? Someone told me earlier that they keep theirs set on 0, but when mine is down that low you literally cannot hear anything coming from the sub Im assuming my problem just lies within my amp settings (I dont think my electrical system is too small for right now [though I will upgrade later] because Im not getting any dimming at all) I appreciate any help any of you guys can give
  6. It came in today There was some sort of a problem with the shipping label or something at a sorting facility and it got delayed getting to me. Everything got sorted out and taken care of though, and I am now the proud owner of one of the most beautifully built boxes I have ever seen. Thanks, man B)

    got metered today

What did your ride look like, man? I was down at that comp today but couldnt find your car I had to duck out early, though...loudest one I listened to was that Ranger with 8 12" L5s :thud:
  8. Thanks for the help I meant that it shipped last week (6th or 7th), so I am still keeping my eyes open for it.
  9. Im wanting to say that the enclosure that I ordered shipped last Tuesday (or maybe Wednesday) but I still havent seen any sign of it. Its only shipping down to Kentucky from Ohio (so just a state down), so it doesnt seem like shipping time should be very long. Of course I have never ordered anything like this so I dont know how long these things take to get from place to place, and I dont know how it was shipped (Fedex, USPS, UPS) and dont have a tracking number to check it out. It shipped, so I know it will get here (Heaven forbid it get lost or something), but I really am just asking how long these things are usually in transit, and was hoping some of you who have ordered enclosures from Gnome could shoot me an estimate? Thanks , Ive everthing ready to go so as soon as I get the box I will be ready for the big install Vicious_Truth@ignmail.com
  10. Was just wondering how a single 15" D2 will handle 1500 watts of power? Is it too much for the driver, or will it handle it perfectly and pound to my heart's content? Thanks
  11. Awesome I went ahead and sent the money VIA PayPal with my credit card, so hopefully that gets everything in order B) Thanks, again
  12. Alright, so I just send him an email with my contact info and tell him that I am sending the money, and then send it to the given address (with my contact info enclosed again) and that will take care of it? Sounds simple enough, thanks
  13. Yea, Ive already checked the SI website and saw the address to send my money to, but I was wondering if there was a way to pay for one of these with PayPal, or if sending my check off was the only way. Do I need to write Nick an email before I send the check so that he is expecting it, or should I just go ahead and send it with my contact information (email, phone, address....anything else needed besides naming the item I am buying?)? If I can pay with PayPal, what is the PayPal address that I should send the money to? Are there additional charges for using PayPal? I sent an email to Nick asking pretty much these same questions yesterday, but never got a response. No doubt he is a busy man and didnt have time to get around to my letter today, so I thought I would just ask here and see what you guys had to say (since I may not be around my computer again after tommorow morning until late Saturday or early Sunday. Thanks for the help
