  1.

Wait, so no more 6th? I was actually quite interested in seeing that pan out. Every time I turn around everyone is building what they call a 4th order lately, there are so few 6th orders that are successful it's eye opening when I see one it peaks my interests.

yes its still gonna be a 6th but here in a few weeks when i nut up and spend the $240 on the aeros im gonna need lol

Good deal! I know I put off my entire build because I needed the adjustability of Bill Lolo's pyschoports. Now I still have the enclosure, but I sold the subs. Now you really got my interest! lol Keep up the good work.

  2. This really puts things in to perspective on big builds!

On one hand you got 2 heavy hitters Metts and Mick and both have done a mid to high 60 on the mic. Both had room to go here.

I heard that Metts hit the park and pound up for the first time and got the second loudest score ever of a 139.1? I believe it was and Mick of course with his 142.1 or whatever it is he got. Both had room to go here as well.

These guys are definitely on my bucket lists of people to get demos from.

  3. I've often looked at the THD and thought it meant nothing.

There should be an "Audible distortion percentage" rating as well.

    3000x1 @ 1ohm = Rated 75% before audible distortion

    1500x1 @ 2ohm = Rated 83% before audible distortion

    1000x1 @ 4ohm = Rated 92% before audible distortion

But what is distortion at any ratings. Is it just noise from overvolted outputs? Could it be a squared off wave? We always argue here that power is power, but what does it mean to you that it makes your power clean vs distorted. For someone that doesn't care about a meter it might mean more to have the cleanest possible sound, but they likely won't need the most power. Would it benefit them to get a much larger amp that distorts much less at a higher ohm load vs a much higher quality amp that distorts about the same at a much lower ohm load?

  4. FWIW, I would hardly consider the Judge to be an "SQ" sub at all. The sub was designed to exceed at a peak frequency. If you have the time you could in theory plug the T/S perimeters and see how much better/worse the sub could possibly do vs any well known SQ sub that was designed with frequency bandwidth in mind. Of course, it would take time as you would have to not try and be so subjective and would have to model a sealed, slot ported 4th, and etc. I have a couple wardens that i would hardly consider SQ, but they play the entire frequency bandwidth I need them to from extending lows 25hz up to punching bass around 60hz.

  5. They tried to bait-switch on me for an out of stock item. Then when I called they assured me I'd receive my money back withink 24-48 hours which didn't happen. Called back again and told them I was doing a chargeback and I immediately got my money back with them on the phone.

  6. What is the measured orientation of your organization? Sealed dash, driver door open outlaw, driver door open dash?

Depending upon orientation I see your goal being extremely possible. I was simply pointing out your 2 largest set backs that you will have to build around extra well to overcome. Records were made to be broken and I want to see you do it!

  7. Hey everybody...

Have not been updating the log in a long time do to winter and the fact that I broke my ipad...

So as of now my 2015 build will be

Ipad mini with a soundstream eq.

    Twisted sounds 8.5k

    Twisted sounds 4&2 channel amp

    2 eric steven pro horns

2 10" faital pros midbass front doors

4 4" faital pros 1 in each door

2 8" faital pros midbass rear doors

4 18s dss ethos under window line

    6 blackcherries batts

2 mike S.270 phase 6 alts with stock bypass

Goal is to burp a 155.4 on 4120 watts clamped

And about 8 decals custom made from chow audio

Should be playing by the end of April if not buy the 1st big show TDH or slamology which ever 1st

Ps...started the recone will post pic later on it the week

Good luck with your goal! That has definitely got me interested.

  8. The Ethos gave a strong powerful low with a boomy throated bass while the sp4 gave a tight responsive and also powerful low, but punchy bass. The Sp4 would edge in a slightly pronounced top end while the Ethos powers through lows and definitely satisfies any thirst for bass. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either for any time of build, but ultimately the choice lies in what you feel your overall build should sound like.

  9. What orientation are you going with? What kind of tuning are you doing?

I've had my fair chance at using both the ethos and Sp4. Either are good subs to go with. The Sp4's prefer a larger box, while the ethos like a smaller box with a much larger port.

  10. Pass on it. Ran their 4k models and had nothing but issues with them and had to exercise their CS more than once. Pick you 5 different companies with models you might find within your needs. Look in to how well their CS is along with the quality of the product and base it off of that. Then compare with how much you are willing to spend and make your final purchase.

He last thing I'd worry about right now is the port. Getting a .75 cuft on your door isn't easy. Can't shop for drivers until you know what enclosure fits

My, how modest. We both know the good midbass drivers with any kind of xmax will usually model out with more than .75 cuft lol

He isn't looking at midbasses with lots of xmax but something with output in the pro audio domain. That is a reasonable enclosre for an 8 and some 10's for the frequency range that will be necessary. Obviously bigger volume is not easier therefore outlining a minimum makes sense. Definitely NET btw, discussing Gross volume is idiotic and off topic always.

Well, I must have missed where it said this

"I'm trying to come up with an idea for front stage that can keep up with four eighteens and sound clean and crystal clear doing so. Imaging as accurate as possible."

That is everything, but pro audio. You're becoming too lenient now days lol.

I'd still say just build the door the best you possibly can because any "mid" you toss in there will be beating the crap out of the door playing anything below 200hz when trying to keep up with 4 18's.

  12. We alsp found oil leaking, under one of the spark plug connectors. Just one though, other three are clean. No oil in the reserve. Started smelling what I thought was clutch three days ago but it was shifting fine.

While the car likely has a few maintainence issues I'd focus on the most important things you've mentioned first like getting it to at least turn over. Others have mentioned tossing in a known good battery as it is the easiest way to tell if the issue is much larger. If you toss in a new battery I would check to see if this model didn't have a fusable link or the wire going directly from the battery to the starter isn't severed, check all fuses and triple check them again.

It is not uncommon for these engines to get blow-back from failing pcv valves or even have a piston ring failure. Fixing other issues might not solve your largest issue which could be a dreaded locked up engine. Smells do help sometimes to determine failures of things. However, a clutch can smell like brakepads, and can even be a clutch master cylinder. I'd definitely work with what you have first before throwing money at it.

  13. Whatever midbass/midrange you decide upon in your doors be prepared to really build your doors more solid. My 10's are beating the ever lastly piss out of my doors. I won't say that going to a 12 or 15 won't net you a louder response, but it will be much easier to build to a 10 and a single 10 can and will image great with a horn loaded drivers. Just look for a mid that stays relatively flat down to the 100hz range. You will not be playing anything SQ if you are to be playing 4 18's anywhere near their "potential" playing level though.lol

  14. so the x5700 doesn't have individual gain?

you should also compare EQ. Xover on there own aren't enough for active

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but individual set point cutoff frequencies at your fingertips instead of using passive crossovers is EXACTLY what defines it being active. Sure, a sucks ass 5 band graphic eq can make the experience horrible or less than stellar is the wording I'd use, but I believe the dd has 13 which is OK along with a few Q points per band which gives it a sort of parametric "esque-ness" to it along with time alignment. I'm not saying any noob can make it sound good, but they do have enough there to make it possible. I'd much prefer to have a 32 band graphic+ or a 9 band parametric+ or even both, but I believe this is more than priced accordingly. If nitpicking how well of processing it has then eq's are much cheaper than a full dsp for running the active side of things.
