    2002 BMW 325i

In my E46 I just knocked out the entire ski pass. It didn't have cold/weather package, but the piece is meant to be knocked out. Removing the rear speakers also yields the same results as removing the ski pass. The red circles are what hold the piece in place. One swift kick would knock the entire piece out. But, I understand the op was just doing his job and what was asked of him.

Any new 2008 cars your excited about??

That trans am looks like a vette minus the front end. The mustang reminds me of the current eclipse. I'd have to say I don't really like either. That accord has one big draw back. They make a sporty looking coupe, but rear wheel drive. The angle in the pic is actually the good angle, the taillights are hideous and the rear end just doesn't look right. Unfortunately, I can't really look forward to any of the new cars coming out. I just totaled my bimmer a week or two ago, but I'm not going to be able to afford any of the cars I really like. I'd love to have a 135 coupe but thats a little more than what I want to spend at the moment.
  3. I was just wondering why once i click on a topic it only shows the original post, and all other posts are linked at the bottom? Is it something I can change or is it just a new look? I particularly like the old way where I can see all the posts under the same topic. I catch myself re-reading some of the earlier posts and this way makes it a bit more difficult to know whats going on in a certain topic. Thanks,,

I'm really liking that 135, the R8 is dead sexy but way over budget.

    Has Anyone Started Classes Yet?

I started school today also.... I actually was enjoying it until I had to go to work. Went from air conditioned environment with cuties to blistering heat.

    A little Frustrated

Thanks, that was going to be my second test. But once I took the box out of the trunk I found the problem. I feel so dumb right now. One of the cables that was connected to the bolts came loose and slipped out of the connector thing. OF course I'm not going to get any sound with just one cable connected. Once I fixed that all was good. Now I just have to adjust the amp, which I'm not good at and try to find a way to where my trunk doesn't rattle so much. I'm not going to do any sound deadening because the car is a lease and is going back soon. I'll probably have to just choose, more bass and rattles or vice versa.

    A little Frustrated

So I just filled my box with polyfill and I do all my connections. Then I connect the amp to the box, throw the fuse in, and jump in the car in anticipation of some wonderful sounds. To my disappointment, the music sounds exactly as it did prior to installing the subs. My first guess is that the amp isn't connected properly and is not powering up. Upon inspection the amp is turned on. It's a bit late and I'm too tired to start taking things apart. I'm pretty sure all the wiring is secure. I'm just hoping that the screws I used aren't the problem. I will feel like an idiot they are the problem. Instead of using a those fancy speaker terminals I used some bolts that I stuck through the box as my terminals. Could it be that they are not conductive? Both the speakers are connected to the bolt on the inside of the box using those crimp on loop connector things. The cable is connected to the speaker with the female connector things. I"m using more of the loop things on the outside of the box, and that cable is going directly to the amp. I"m pretty sure the connectors are secure and I must have some bad luck if both speakers were not connected properly. They didn't move at all which makes me think its either the screws or that my amp might not be working properly. It turns on but I don't know if its actually doing anything. Is there a way to check if the amp is putting out any power? Well, thats it for my little rant. Just wanted to vent a little and ask for a little advice. This is the first time this happens to me, but it's also the first time I build a box.

    A little Frustrated

After conducting my first test, the results prove that my amp still works and the problem is somewhere in the box.

    A little Frustrated

I think thats where I'm going to start. It seams like the easiest step to do without having to take much apart. Then I'll have to work my way down, and try all the other suggestions. How ever, I have a feeling it might be the bolts. Hopefully I find out in a little bit what the problem is.

    Quick Poly fill question

Cool, Thanks. Let me go fill my box then.

    Quick Poly fill question

Yesterday I went out to buy polyfill and I bought a box that says "Premium Polyester Fiberfill." Is Fiberfill the same thing as polyfill? I picked the box up at wal-mart and it was sitting next to the bags of polyfill. When I got home I noticed that it said fiberfill. I just want to know if I have to go return it and get the right stuff, or is this the same thing with different wording?

Just a bit curious to what the pollyfill does and why so much of it? Seems like 5lbs of it will completely fill my box. Either way, I'll go pick some up, just wondering what it actually does.

    Few more SD-1 questions

Nope, I got it taken care off . I needed to get the box finished before the weekend was over and I understand that you cant be by the computer 24/7 to answer questions. I just made the cut out the same as the cvr I have. I figure I can always mess with it and it should be close enough. I also ended up adding a divider in the middle for more bracing. The divider does have a large portion cut out to leave more internal volume. I tried using the router to cut the holes with a custom made jig thing. It didn't turn out as I expected. The holes were perfectly round but on one side of the board the hole is a bit bigger than on the other side. Think the bit had something to do with it. I rounded over the edges and used the nail gun (maybe called brad nailer) to make sure it stays together. I also added some silicon to make sure no air leaks since my cuts weren't perfect. Only thing I need to do is maybe carpet it, or put some type of finish and figure out what I'm going to do about connecting the speakers to the amp. I've thought about just running the cable through it, using screws to connect the speakers to the box and the box to the amp. Just havent decided on which way to go. I was going to take a pic of the box but the battery was dead on the camera.

    Few more SD-1 questions

Just wondering what the cut out is for the 12" sd-1? I'm not too familiar with making holes for subs so I don't know if there is a pretty much close to standard size or if theres a specific size I need. I was also gonna try to make it with a double baffle to try to have that flush mount look. I would probably need the outside diameter of the speaker also. As I type this I'm in the process of building the box. I'm realizing I'm not that great at cutting wood. Some of the pieces are mm longer or shorter than others. It's too hard to get perfect cuts with no experience in wood working. Honestly I'm not to confident in the box. Should I put maybe silicon or something to seal the edges in the inside, I don't think gluing them is enough. I was also wondering about add some screws to the box? Maybe it will help hold it together better. My brother also has one of them nail guns that use the tiny nails, maybe that will work better than screws and be easier too? I just have to figure out how I am going to cut the circles. I can try to free hand it with the jig saw or come up with some contraption to get the router to do the holes for me. Sad thing is that I don't know what type of router bit to use. Thanks, and sorry for all the questions...
  17. Well I'm really aching to get some new subs, well really a new entire set up but at the moment only subs. Currently I have a 12" cvr and I'm really dissapointed in it. It probably has to do a lot witht the enclosure but I really didnt feel like trying to make a new one for it. As always money plays a mojor role in my decisions and I"m kinda torn between (2) 12 Assassins and (1) 12 Q. I have really been wanting to buy the Q, but one of the things holding me back is the amp. I really cant afford to buy both an amp and a sub. I will most likely be using the amp i currently have pushing my cvr. It's nothign spectacular, not even great, but it works. Its a performance technique rated at 240x2 @2ohm or 480x1 @4ohm. watts. I figure if I get the Q i will be underpowering and who knows when I will be able to afford that sundown I've been looking at. On the other hand I can buy a pair of assassins and feed them very close to their rated rms. The price of both options is very close, almost to where it's a non factor. My car currently sounds like ass to me. I beleive the problem is, no mid bass and then the bass the sub puts out also sounds bad. The cvr I am currently using is inside this tube thing that I believe is making it sound bad. Some bass notes sound ok and some bad, with the majority sounding bad and the lack of midbass doesnt help either. I'd really like to work on my frontstage but the car is a lease whichi is soon going to be getting returned. Once I get a new car then I will try to have a well rounded and balanced soundstage. I don't really want tons of bass, but I'd like a little more and for the sub to actually play everything rather well, than just a few things well. I'm leaning towards a sealed box for which ever route i choose. If I get the assassins I don't know if it would be better to build a box with 1 common chamber or 2 individual chambers. Either way, I plan on building the box myself and will be my first ever attempt at building a box. Other suggestions are always welcome and I appreciate any advise. Btw, the car is a bmw 325i. I really don't have a lot of trunkspace and I would like to keep a bit of room for misc. junk. I have concidered just building a sealed box for my cvr, but honestly I don't think that I'd be satisfied with the output. I am prettty sure that It would sound better, maybe not louder but probably better. I just don't think that it would get loud enough and that i'd be wasting my time building a box. Maybe I should just try it, I'd get experiance building a box and I would be positive that I was not satisfied.

    Few more SD-1 questions

So with some of the extra wood I had I built a small box for my cvr. I also made an attempt at free handing the hole with a jig saw. Made me reconsider my plans about flush mounting the pair. Seems if the circle isn't perfect there's no point into trying to flush mount. I'm almost done with my boxes. I think I"m going to make the box for the sd-1's have individual chambers just so the divider can help brace the box.

    Sundown Audio SD-1 "Blowout" Sale

Just went and bought some mdf and will start building my box tomorrow. Just have to figure up some box specs first. I should be fine as long as the volume is 2.5-3 ft^3, right? Does it matter if they are in a common chamber or is it better if I isolate them? I'm just excited to build the box and get everything running. I'll just have to wait a few days after I build the box to listen to them. Any tips or links to some box building?

    Sundown Audio SD-1 "Blowout" Sale

Jacob, can you tell me the displacement for the subs. It seems that I'm going to have to attempt to build a sealed box for the pair. I pm'd rich but he told me that he cannot disclose specs on the transmission line box and I really cant afford to buy one off him. I would try to build a ported box but I don't think I have the space for (2) 12's. Thinking I should have gotten a pair of 10's and ported them, but oh well sealed 12's it is.

thinking about a pair fo 12" assassins

Thanks for the suggestions. I kind of already knew that my amp needed to be replaced but was kind of trying to go around it since I can't afford a new amp, or at least the one that I want to purchase. I pretty much knew already that my box was the reason my sub sounds bad but never thought that the amp was adding to the bad sound. The reason I wanted a knew one was so that I can power beefier subs. Are you saying my amp has an ill effect on my sub due to poor quality or just insufficient power? I'm pretty sure its due to the poor quality but I thought I'd ask. Denim, The thought of running a pair of 10's had crossed my mind but have never really convinced myself to buy them. I'm pretty sure they perform well but I always like the thought of bigger speakers. Just to let you guys know, just bought a pair of sundown sd-1's. I was gonna just try to build a box for the cvr, but these close out prices were too good to pass up. I don't want anyone to think I was just wasting their time, by asking for opinions then doing what ever I want to do in the end. I just bought the speakers before checking to see if anyone responded. I figure for the price it's not too much to risk and see if I like them. Hopefully when I can afford the new amp I will try to buy better speakers. I have a feeling that ///M5 (cant remember his name) was right , and that if I were to purchase the assassins I might not be satisfied due to having a poor perfoming amp and that I most likely will not get the best out of them. Either way, since I'm going to be building a box for the sd-1's I might as well try to build a box with the left over wood for the cvr just if If there is a noticeable difference.

OK, just ordered me a pair of these. Can't think about it too long or else I won't buy anything. Now the wait begins, and I shall attempt to build my first box in the next couple of days. Just have to figure out some box specs, probably pm this mysterious "stratusrt01" that jacob recommends. Oh, and also figure out what a transmission line box is? I can't wait to see how these compare to my cvr.

Sounds like to good a deal to pass up. I'm gonna have to order me up a pair of these. Only problem is do I go with 10's or 12's? OK,, after thinking about I'll just go with a pair of 12's. I just hope I have enough room for 2 of them ported.

thinking about a pair fo 12" assassins

Hmmm, Maybe I typed too much and nobody felt like reading it. I tend to do that sometimes as well. I was gonna buy some wood and attempt to build a box but i got lazy. I also have to borrow my brothers table saw and see what type of router he has. Maybe this weekend I'll give it a shot.
