  1. So I just bought an Acura RSX-S, im wondering if I should use the bose system or buy a component set. To being, I have a some nice equipment in my room that I have NOT gotten to use yet.. sax 100.4 saz2500.1D DD 9515g DD 9512g I plan on getting some sort of double din TV with 4-5 volt rca outputs, decent crossover, and decent eq. I think I'll end up using the 2500 and the 9512g in the hatch.. but as far as my mids/highs.. Im not so sure what to do. The bose system sounds good, but I think it distorts past half on the volume knob. Maybe I will be able to tune it better with the aftermarket tv? Im not going for super sick SQ and Im not going for rattle my nuts out of my pants either.. (i'd be ashamed to make the interior of this car rattle like my truck does.. lol) I just wanna know if any of you have heard of anyone using the stock bose sound system coupled with an aftermarket sub stage..
  2. I am in the market for a double din tv/hu. I want to have full ipod/iphone control, navigation, bluetooth, 4-5V rca outputs and a decent eq / crossover network. Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT AVIC-Z120BT Kenwood DNX9960 DNX9960 Out of the two of these, what do you think has a better eq/crossover network? Also, if you thing there is a better option for a tv/hu, please chime in with your opinion.

    Choosing a HU

I see you have the 360. Do you like it? I see you're also upgrading to the ms-8. I hear those are nice also. I don't know how easy those processors are to use. Thats kinda why i haven't looked into using one yet.

    Choosing a HU

Yea, but wasn't that price for a refurb? I'd like to check out the 990! Too bad that they cost $1300. I'll put that money towards a programmable ECU before I get a 1300 HU.

    Choosing a HU

Yeaa, I know drew. Hell yea man; I'd love to get a look at the 9887. I'm in baton rouge all week and some weekends. Where are you from? I see it says Baton Rouge. If you are close to LSU, we could meet up very easily. If not, then a general location would work. Lol, I talked to drew for the first time in the college dr. wal mart parking lot.

    Choosing a HU

You must have never owned a 880/800 PRS... I have, and in fact, I like my alpine 9887 a lot better. Not quite what youre trying to say, I know, but just stating. I have a 9855.. it's functionality is AWESOME! I heard the 9887's aren't tunable unless you use the imprint kit. True? Or not so true? Sorry, didn't mean to get off on a tangent. But the kenwood navi seems a lot better than the pioneer. It also has the "traffic" feature.

    Choosing a HU

I've never seen a Kenwood in person though. I guess it would be worth a trip to best buy or some place to play with them in person before I buy something off of the internet. Although, the pioneer's seem to be built very well. Alpine needs to stop with all that add on bs.. I mean some stuff add on is understandable (they can only fit so much into the unit), but not every damn thing!

    Choosing a HU

Yea, the pioneer has a very nice interface w/ a very nice gps. It's still lacking on the eq though. But I guess I can't have everything I want lol.. (all in one package at least..) But I'd much rather them take all that eco monitor and music sphere off and add an active crossover network and like a 10 band graphic eq. (similar to the 880, 800, & 990)

    Choosing a HU

seems like there's too much BS with all of those add ons.. I can't even get a 7 band graphic eq without the add on.. and i would have to get a add on for bluetooth

    anyone out there?

curved when i was trying to cut....

chill out; this isn't facebook.. this is NOT your status update.. if you don't have pics or a description of where this "curved cut" is or will be once the box is assembled (i.e. will this curve be mating with a flat surface (this will leak).. if not, glue and screw and you'll be fine) we cannot help you
  13. If I sell I will let you know first.. But it would be in the 260-270 range.. it has a fresh board in it (installed by jake himself).. I bought it with the new board, and I have not installed it yet.
  14. Yea, I paid about 2 grand under blue book.
  15. I'll be running a SAZ 2500D and a SAX 100.4. The 2500 will be at 1 ohm and the 100.4 will be at 2 ohms. So that's roughly 3140 watts. I have about a 50 ah battery up front, will have a 100 ah battery in the back (deka intimidator 9A31), and I will have the big three. Will I need a high output alternator? I'm not sure what my alternator is rated for. I'm guessing its between 60-100 amps. I have a Chevy 1500 1990 4.3L V6 w/AC.

Simple... DD9512g in single cab chevy

The box is 2.6 cuft @ 39 Hz with 16 square inches of port per cube. Need to build another so I can reach across the truck to roll down the window.. lol (also i think i will tune the next one around 33 hz)

    Aeroports..

    actually 30-50% less!
  18. imhungnurnot

    fi ssd question

first, you need to define better.. Do you want it to be loud? Will the SSD's be 15's as well? Do you have around 10 cuft for a box for the 2 15's?

    Stop the rise

I don't want to stop it. I want to minimize it. Too bad I can't use optimization from Calc. I.
  20. imhungnurnot

    Stop the rise

    Helpful! lol

    Stop the rise

Good information. So i'm in the same boat. If i find my resonant frequency of my vehicle, what should I tune to? I read a few times on here to tune the enclosure from a few hz to ten hz below resonant freq. What seems correct; a few below or ten below? After that, adjust box parameters in winISD to get my resonant freq in a trough in the graph.

    aero ports???

Example.. say you want a 4 cuft net volume box... so multiply 4 x 16.. thats 64 square inches of port for the entire box.. multiply this number by .5 and .7.. so you have a range 45 and 32 square inches of FLARED port for the box.. Lets pick 39 because its in the middle of the range. Now.. to figure out how much port area each aero port has.. use the area of a circle is A=pi*r^2.. so the area of a 4 inch aero port is 12.56.. so 3 aero ports would be good for this box because 3x12.56=37.68 and 37.68 is very close to 39!!! I kind of rushed to explain this.. let me know if you don't understand because the explanation isn't very thorough..

Loud and low for less that $150.

I have 4 Fi X 12's... Yea, they are loud and clear for the price!!! The new ones have 2 more mm of Xmax.. so im guessin they'll sound even better!!! I think I paid under 300 for all four of mine.. They were selling so cheap once they stopped making them!!! Is this your first system? You'll be very happy with a single or pair of 15's.. also, i'm sure everyone on here will take care of you.. but I'd recommend tuning to around 32 Hz due to the not very stiff suspension.. You don't wanna blow the thing by playing frequencies below tuning as i think it could easily happen with the looser suspension..
  24. imhungnurnot

    Are these port specs OK?

I notice you didn't include brace displacement.. I hope you are bracing this enclosure. It'll need it! The internal volume is actually over 11.15 cubes after port displacement, then each sub is .19. That gives me about .4 for bracing to be right about 32hz... I hope I got it right, because the design is at the shop already, lol. Ohh ha alright, well + or - one hertz is fine too.. You're gonna play the shit out of it regardless!!! lol so just make sure its braced, glued and screwed!! You're gonna get your jolly's! I wish i had that much Sd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    New box design

if you double wall the top, bottom, front and back, you can build the box outside of the car in two pieces purposely leaving one of the double wall pieces longer than the other.. and do this so the two boxes will "zipper" together once inside of the trunk... Keep in mind i've never built in a trunk! Just a crazy idea of mine! We'll see what others think..
