  1. well at full gain and cranked on the HU and all you get is a vibration instead of sound ummm ya there is a problem. I thought you just had diminished sound. Either way 4ohms with that amp should be pushing decent sound out. I hope the amp isnt wired into 1 ohms because its possible that the amp isnt going into protect and its just acting wierd. I would suggest taking out the subs and see just how they have them wired.

  2. well by the sounds of it you were in the right parameters for your gain and your voice coil wasnt burned and it was a proto, so Im leaning towards manufacturer defect, but thats just a guess Jacob will have answers soon I bet on what really happened. Dopey heh ya he jumps the gun a bit and sometimes forgets to load it.

  3. Sup, Yellow tops are a DEEP cycle batt unlike the red tops. red tops are designed to discharge a large amount of power fairly quickly. yellow tops are designed to discharge power at a slower rate (which is what you need) its all in the amp hours in the specs. Basically you dont want your batt to prematurely blow its power you want staying power such as a yellow top (DEEP cycle batt) heh

So now that were on the same page (DEEP cycle), Your right about the batts being a better choice when going from car to car than a alt, so yes I would invest in some batteries first, but keep in mind if your system power demand grows to large it really doesnt matter how many batts you have if you cant keep them charged.

  4. TC made their name through a grass roots strategy as many companies do when starting out. We know TC has great products, but treating your customers like peons and proclaiming that you are the worlds best while thumping your chest and stating that since we are the best we are going to charge what ever we want doesn't sit to well with people who have seen them grow. Its almost like watching a kid turned into a spoiled teenager. TC is bitter sweet for me right now.

  5. All three are good choices and you wouldnt go wrong with any of them IMHO, but the Eclipse CD7100 in pro mode can set the crossover points in 1hz increments, has a 16 band eq and 8volt RCA's. The Alpine 9887 I would have to say has the Eclipse beat in ipod control and access. I cant speak for the Premier DEH-880PRS, but I hear its very good as well. So from the two HU's I know Im leaning towards the Eclipse CD7100.

  6. 2.83V @ 4 ohms = 2 watts...so to compare it to regular measurements, it's actually 88dB @ 1w/1m.

Bingo. High Qes with no better than average Mms means you've got a driver that isn't especially efficient; average at best.

Double bingo DD I saw that as well, by the way your write ups are very informative hats off to ya.

  7. Ok A bit confuzzeld here, but I think your saying your port and your subs are facing the same direction ( which is forward towards the cabin ) and the enclosure is in the trunk. Usually port back sub back works best, but not always. Basically you have to try as many positions as possible to find the one that is right for you. I personally placed a baffle in my rear deck and gained from it, but my port isnt directly pointed into the cabin either. If I was going to try something else for me, I would probably seal off the trunk from the cabin and port directly into the cabin through the seal. heh but I dont know the outcome of this yet, maybe someone else can take over from where I left off.
