  1. This is gettin' like Facebook, people asking the same questions, gettin' the same answers. Then wonder why either no one responds, or people start gettin' fired up.

Like I stated in the very beginning, I have been away from the forums and audio for some time now. Afterbi asked the question at hand I found my answers after looking thoroughly. My main concern with the while issue was why was it all the amps fault, yet they changed the design of the speaker. Which a lot of companies make design "improvements". But they did do away with the spider spacer and switched to the FOAD leads. Which had me wondoring why. Now I know why... And this is nothing like facebook. I hate facebook extremely to much drama and I could care less about what you do all day.

  2. if there were any reports of a significant number of these woofers bursting into flames you'd hear a lot more about it. i seriously doubt the average user should worry about this at all. if you misuse/abuse your sub expect it to fail eventually.

That is pretty much what I have came to the conclusion of. The more I read on it the more i feel the user was not in a position to have a massive substage with such little knowledge. But that does not answer to my spider spacer question...

  3. Ok. So i recently bought some BNIB SP4 from a local IAK member. Nice subs look great coils check out everything is all gravy with that. I have been out of audio a bit the last couple years and haven't been on here much. So I look up some things on the sp4's and I keep seeing articles of them catching fire. I had a Bl about 6 years ago catch fire, but I was a bit younger and was clipping the shit out of it. I keep reading and reading and most say it is user end failure. Also my specific sp4's have the spider spacer, and I go to the Fi website and they no longer offer that option.

So with that being said, why is that option no longer available? Should I be concerned about these subs catching fire? I am a bit more knowledgeable than I was when my BL caught fire, but seems to be trend with Fi. Not talking shit Just something that I have been noticing, just like I notice sundown has problems with baskets braking or any other manufacture having problems. If it helps out I will be running these 18's in a wall that is right around 12 cubic feet with interchangeable port on a single saz 3500 (also been seeing that these amps have a problem sending out straight dc current to the sub)

Do I have a potentially combustible setup in order? Is all the fires really user end problems? What is the real issue?

  4. All of my equipment should be here Monday. Now just need brakes, hub assemblies and tires. Already have my new springs and rear bushings. Trying to get everything in order so I can do it all at once, along with changing out the alt. Some point this year I am going to be graving up some ofc to replace all my cca too.

  5. Decided to go a different way with substage. Selling one of my nightshades here soon, and a local IAK member is selling bnib sp4 18's. So i decided to take them off his hands. They will be thhe first 4 inch coil sub I have ran, Nightshades would been good, but I told myself a few months ago the only other subs I would run was 2 evils, 4 12" xcons, or sp4's. So sp4's it is.. lol

  6. I also need to do a bunch of work to the rear suspension that is contributing to it sagging more. Needs all new bushings, wheel bearings, brakes, and springs. I may also note it has 2" drop all the way around which isn't helping much either.

    That will not help^

    LOL!!

Hope we get a break in weather soon so you can start finishing that beast up!

you and me both broths. Although it will probably be like March or April LOL.

  8. Not sure but I am sagging pretty bad without any equipment so far. Maybe 150 pounds. There's about 8 16 foot 2x4's 1 and half sheets of birch so far and a bunch of expanding foam and polyurethane adhesive. Still have to do front baffle which will eat about 2 sheets of birch and throw in equipment, so looking around the 600-700 pound mark in the end.

  9. Just a little update of where I am going with this build. It has been way to cold and snowy to do any actual work to the build. And since I do not. Currently have a garage nothing has been done. I have been doing some research though and have found some 11.5" diameter PVC pipe and will got that route instead of a slot port. It will save me damn near a cubic foot, and with only 12.74 before displacement I could use the help. Also it will get my port area right around where I need it to be. I am also only going to run 1 saz-3500d for now until I can get some money together to upgrade my electrical substantially.

I just got a new job as well, I was an aluminum door fabricator and got promoted by the same company to the maintenance team. Decent raise, but it is second shift but I should be able to deal with that.
