    sundown 3000 at .5 ohm?

i would run at 1 ohm and upgrade electrical to supply 16 volts. that way you maintain warranty.

How do you remove the magnet

you might have a easier time getting a recone if you just buy a standard 12 spoke basket with the recone. i don't know but the 12" basket you have may not have standard spider, and surround landing heights.

Is this an official Sundown product?

http://www.robotunderground.com/ what is funny is they say they are not for profit? audiojunkies has had them as a topic a couple of times. http://www.audiojunkies.com/blog/163/robot...ew-subs-contest http://www.audiojunkies.com/blog/125/new-r...ound-subwoofers

    rockford fosgate eclipse 8" hybrid

the rf coil is no longer a coil its just a former. the eclipse was already bad, and with tc sounds/ audiopulse the way they are currently at. there is no way of getting a recone for these from them. so i knew the rf he recone was a two inch coil so i bought on to see if it would work with the eclipse motor i originally had no intentions of trying what i am currently doing. the only reason i had saved the eclipse coil was for id and od measurements. of course the rf recone doesn't fit, the spider, and surround landings line up perfectly. the rf coil was to short and with the windings on it a tad to wide. the parts were already in my possession, and now have no use for either so i figured what the hell lets see. so i tried slipping the two formers over on another to see if it was close, and it was. so i unwound the rf coil, and got out my micro calipers, and took alot of measurements. i have built speakers from loose parts before, and have always been successful. i have more then enough clearance for the slightly larger od rf former. i think the largest problem is going to be heat transfer between the two formers. but to directly answer your question. no, i am joining one coil to a former there is a quarter inch overlap and that is were the glue joint will be, and i will set the coil in the gap and shim it centered before the glue sets so it will be aligned. then after it dries i will remove it and join the eclipse vc leads to the rf tinsel leads. after that it is just a simple drop in recone that may are may not work. lol

    dynamat vs damplifier pro

the surface was clean i stripped the inside of my truck and took a hose and car wash to it lol i think my main problem was it was a 81 toyota which has very few trim panels or even floor carpet. and that caused alot of sun exposure. yes you may say will duh it is not designed for direct sun exposure. which is true but extreme and damplifier pro hold up beautifully in the sun.

    dynamat vs damplifier pro

i have used dynamat original, and extreme, and damplifier pro the damplifier pro is defiantly tops imo. i used extreme in my last vehicle because i got it for ultra cheap. i will never use original ever again even if it was free i would take it and resell it. it is much harder to mold than the others with out it ripping, and it only held up about a year and a half. it started to turn brown, and got hard, and the adhesive started letting go. i am not talking about just the edges i mean everywhere. i had areas the size of a sheet of paper pulling up and losing contact with the floor. in my defense it was my first install over ten years ago and i was just learning. lol

fi Q vs JL w6 in terms of sq.

i am also interested in a non biased opinion on this also. i have alot of experience with the w6 line new, and old. i have no experience with the Q. it would be interesting to see what a non biased person would say since the q is marketed as fi's sq line. it would be nice to see how it stacks up to a great bench mark.
  10. i just want to add to this if you don't feel comfortable with soldering the new leads to the voice coil leads. you can instead crimp the connection instead, and then glue each one down afterwards. it can be hard to solder to solid wire, and some people may not feel like trying, so this is just another option.

    2 12" SSD vs 2 12" Q

from what i have read the ssd's won't take much more over rated. i might be wrong

    3hp(?) recone questions

neat i never seen that top plate before but it does appear to be a standard 6 bolt pattern (never owned a 8800 series sub either lol). i have a question what is the overall diameter of the slugs and there thickness of each slug? reason i ask is 3hp's are usually 3-3/4" slugs that are iirc. 7 9/16" or 7 3/4" can't remember exactly. just wondering for my own personal curiosity. on the 3hp's with a threaded top plate they have a standard 6 bolt pattern also but the holes are not threaded yet. but the threaded portion's overall diameter stops a standard basket from slipping over it, and mating with the bolt holes.

    3hp(?) recone questions

if it is a 3hp for an eclipse sub it should be the kind with a threaded top plate. if it is than all that is need is a machined aluminum ring that is threaded on the inside, but has the six hole threaded pattern on it then you just bolt it to the basket. that way no permanent mods done to the motor. in fact if it a threaded top plate eclipse look at the basket you should have that threaded ring adapter bolted to the basket you might have to remove the soft parts to get to it. but if it is in there it should have the 6 bolt pattern.

    parts needed

yea thats what i figure. i am pretty excited about getting this done. i have been so down since my second tc sound vmp got crushed by ups. and i need two matching passives so i took the one threaded rod assembly off of the smashed vmp and our in house machinist at work was able to duplicate it for me.

    parts needed

hi i was wondering if i can buy just some parts from you mainly just two 15" cones with surrounds attached, and some spiders. i have frames and thread rod assemblies made for the application. and would like to make a couple of passive radiators. i would imagine i would need cones that are on the stronger end of the spectrum considering i have up to a pound and a half to add to each threaded rod. and i am not sure as far as spiders go. the one passive i do have uses just one spider, and it is most defiantly not very stiff.
