  1. I SOOO wanted to do a false floor in the trunk but wanted the space also, I guess everything is a compromise.

Fortunately for me, space was not an issue as it was completely unused in my truck. :)

Here is a rough sketch of my bracing technique I'll be using:

  2. **I already had a plunge router, but it's kind of a junky one. Master Mechanic.

I finished up my amp hole covers tonight, and they turned out good! Unfortunately I have to let my camera charge. Pics in the morning, but I'll hopefully have detailed sketch up of my box done tonight!

  3. Bought a new fixed base Porter Cable router today. Same plan as originally, but I'll be recessing the amp covers with a rabbiting bit. Pics tomorrow.

Was the Porter Cable plunge router alot more?

    Can't wait for more Pics.trink40.gif

Yes. About $175 more. The reason being is that it came with the plunge, the fixed, and a D-handle attachment.

  4. What i would really like to use a a sheet of MDF and just carpet it.. but i don't think there would be enough space between the mdf and door.. when doing this with one set of comp i just need to make sure there is enough space so the speaker mag. doesn't touch the acuall door, right?

If so, how would i space the mdf out a few inches?

Use two pieces to double the thickness. I've never FG before, but I've spent a few hours on www.fiberglassforums.com and I now feel confident that I have the skills necessary. It's not going to be perfect my first time through, but you have to learn somewhere!

  5. You won't be doing just a recone, you'll be doing a rebasket as well! That's a little more difficult.

Reconing is a piece of cake. I just bought the recone kit for my buddy, read an article or two and set off. Basically you're going to cut the soft parts out and pull the basket off. Glue and screw the new basket.

The only difficult part is figuring out how to shim your voicecoil the first time you do it. I used big index cards.

  6. ok, im a noob, but where is this false floor gonna be mounted in the truck cab? like under the seats?? behind the seats? :ehh:

The rear of my truck, where the jump seats normally would be in a Ranger, is empty. So its contoured to fit over the driveline hump and another hump back there. If it wasn't raining today, I would get a picture of it mounted in there.

  7. Which fans will you be using?

They are 80mm Coolermaster case fans for PC's. I'll be wiring them up to my remote wire with a relay so when the amps kick on, so do the fans. I was going to use a temperature sensitive controller, but decided to save the cost.

  8. Okay, long over due:

And this is where I'm routing my wires through:

Tonight I also got covers for the amp holes made. I also rounded off the corners on some of the sides. No pics of either yet, as I'm not completely happy with them.

  9. 5x the price is the only downside.

Make sure you get VOID free. It is lighter and as strong. You still should use 3/4"

I think that all depends where you buy it. Here it's about $27 for a sheet of MDF vs $60 or so for a sheet of nice ply. Big difference, but in my opinion completely worth it.

  10. I'm using this right now. It's better in every single way. Absolutely, 100%.

It does weight less, but I'm not sure how much. It's much easier to cut for you and your tools. There is no NASTY MDF dust flying around.

It's just better in every single way. I used to buy the MDF because of the price difference, but in my opinion the price is worth it.

  11. Should have told me... i have multiple 80mm and 120mm brand new case fans sitting in a box :\

Ugh. That would have been convenient had I had these plans of fans earlier. I would have had you bring them up...lol
