  1. Alright, thanks to both of you. I'll shop around for a used receiver. Do you have any specific ones you would recommend m5? And I like some of the DIY project on parts express that come with everything. I want to try my hand at building a crossover, but I'm not really sure where to start. My main issue is understanding it all I guess. Is there any website someone can direct me to that will show me how to build a crossover from scratch. I really just don't understand how adding a capacitor or resistor to your crossover changes things and how to get it setup right so you can direct frequencies. I've got a while still before I start the build, I just want to get things in order now though.

  2. Okay, as the topic says, I'm tired of my RCA HTIB. I'm done for the most part with my car, and would really like to build a nice 2.1 setup. I don't have the money for a 5.1, and rather than getting a mediocre 5.1 I'd rather have a nice 2.1.

First off, I need a receiver. I'd like to keep the receiver around $500. Only needs to be a 5.1 with some preamp outputs. Right now, I'm leaning towards and Onkyo. Any other companies you guys suggest?

Second: I want to build my speakers. Bookshelves are not out of the question, but I think I might like to try a 3way floor standing speaker. I'll admit, I am new to the HT building so if any of you have a better suggestion let me know! Price range for the two = $500(ish).

Third: The subwoofer! I current have a 12" Q in my car and I was thinking of possible removing that and putting it in a large enclosure with a dayton plate amp. My other thought was buying a 15" icon and doing the same amp wise. Yet again, I'm open to suggestions! :)

This will be used with my computer for everything. Music AND movies.

  3. It really depends on what you want....If you're doing a daily driver, I personally would say 30-34Hz. If you're doing more of an SPL setup, tune it higher, like the 40's.

  4. A Q will get loud if you put it in the proper box. The big 3 refers to upgrading your electrical under the hood by running more power wire/ground wire. (Battery to atl, alt to ground, etc.) You can do 2 12" Q's sealed and it would sound nice. If you're worried about pure output, you'd probably like the ported BL's. Assuming I did my math right, you'll have enough room for the BL's. Get them fully loaded and throw a 1500D to each?

  5. Alright, as the topic says, I'm looking for a component set for my Thunderbird. I currently have a pair of Infinity Kappa coaxial speakers in it. They are 6x8 and that is what my bird is designed for. I'm looking to spend no more that $250 on a set. They will be powered by a RF P400.4 amp. I have no problem fabricating some MDF size reducers if necessary.

This is my only place of reference really, and I trust most all of your opinions. No one around my area has any type of aftermarket stereo, so I really can't demo anyone.

Over all what I'm looking for is something that can get loud, but still sound clean. Any suggestions or previous experience with a certain pair is welcome!

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  6. I think the impounding is a bit rough....is that for first time "offenders" as well? Turn it up on the highway or the country roads. If you HAVE to have it up in the city...turn it down at the red lights or slow traffic at least. I always have my music down if its before noon or after eight at night.....I plan on investing in some second skin soon, but I just don't have the money now. =/

    Just be courteous though.

  7. They are both rated at 1000w rms. If you get them both fully loaded they can handle more power. I think if you ran 1500w to a Q constantly it might not like it in the long run. Note: I very well could be wrong on that. 1500 to the BL would be a better choice...I believe BigJon is running that much to his BL's. Maybe he'll read this and put in his two cents.

  8. Right, well I just did the conversion and 160 liters is about 5.65 cubic feet. Fi recommends 2.8-4 per sub in a ported enclosure. That would be close. Also if you do go with BL's put them in a ported box, I've read not to seal them. Is it a prefab box? Or one that you are making?

  9. I believe international orders go through Blade Ice.. I have a Q and love it....If that amp puts out anywhere near 3000w I don't think the Q is for you. And you said you really don't care about the quality so I would recommend a fully loaded BL or even wait until the new BTL comes out and order one of those. You're going to want to run 0/1awg wire also.

  10. Well, you've come to the right place for help. I own a Cadence amplifier and I love it...so far. I don't have any experience with there speakers however. I do have kappas in my car and I LOVE them. But, as always, wait for some more people to give you their opinions!
