    SSD 12 Question

There is also a length associated with a port.
  3. Never have more positive than negative. But you really didn't give us any information. Why do you think you want to do this? "would adding just 1 more pos run help..." Help what? Help you spend more money? Yes, you would. Help decrease voltage drop? Maybe, but you didn't tell us what equipment you're running or what your voltage problem is. Why are you running ground from the amp back to the battery anyways instead of grounding somewhere near the amp?

    Welcome to the IHoP

Went to a lake last night for my dad's work's summer party. I go to bed at about 1:00am but it's still like 85* so I'm kinda trying to get comfortable enough to not sweat and doze off. The wind is out of the south at about 15 mph so I point my tent that way and open the flap to allow the screen to show to let some wind in. That helps a little, but this tent only has a small screen. Anyways, as I'm attempting to doze off the wind dies, making it harder because I get hotter. Then all of a sudden the wind just starts building and building and building out of the NORTH until I seriously wonder if there is a tornado out there, although I know for a fact there is not a cloud in the sky. I was under a tree and I really feared that branches would break off and crush me. The two stakes on the north half of the tent come out of the ground and I'm basically holding the tent down with my body weight. It's just one of those two bendy-pole cross tents, nothing fancy, but this thing is whipping hard, and I'm starting to wonder what would happen if it would lift me off with it still inside. As I'm sitting up trying to find the door zipper, I feel a pressure on my back like something is pushing against me. I figure out that it's my dad's tent being blown by the wind onto mine. Then all of a sudden I feel it slide over me, and his tent is gone (his tent was twice the size of mine, it probably sleeps 6). The wind had to have been 80 mph, if not 100. I'm like wtf is going on? I don't know, but I need to get out and fold my tent up so that it doesn't blow it away too. By this time the wind has died down to about 30 mph but I still have to keep a foot on the tent as I'm taking it apart so that it doesn't blow away. I haul it all over to my Explorer and figure I'll just sleep in there. I crack the windows, lean the seat back, and listen. quiet. The wind had died. I was like wtf, you've got to be kidding me. I just tore my tent down for nothing. Luckily my dad found his tent like 100 feet away, so we staked it back in and I slept in there. This was miraculous because we were on the edge of a cliff that went down into the lake and I was nearly sure it would have went in. The wind didn't blow more than 10 mph the rest of the night. Weirdest thing ever. About 2 minutes of 80 mph wind, then it was done. Apparently a microburst, but it was strange because there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Apparently this lake is known for these strange occurrences, because I was telling the story to my stepmom's dad today and he said that he believes it because once he was out there boating and out of nowhere a huge storm of wind blew through and made 6-8 foot waves with whitecaps, water was washing over his boat from each wave, and he had to be careful to keep it straight on into waves and not turn or he was sure he'd tip over. After 5 minutes he went to a dock on the other side of the lake and asked a guy there what that was, and the guy said he hadn't seen anything. That half of the lake didn't have any inkling of that weather whatsoever. It's a decent sized lake, but not huge. About 9 miles long and 1.5 miles wide. It's Lake Wilson for any Kansans who know it.

I almost did the exact same workout yesterday. lat pull down dumbbell curls shoulder lifts, both to side and and forward seated row dead lift C-sit ab workout and the upright ab machine pullups 20 minutes on bike on hills setting
  6. If you only have one amp, do them in a push-pull like you said aimed right down the fins or top of the amp.
  7. Yeah, what kind of buster on a car audio board tells us he fixes something then doesn't tell us what happened?

is this a good box for the 12" BTL?

3.05 cubes gross, port displacement is 0.64, sub displacement is like .21 or something IIRC. So 2.2 cubes net, and tuning frequency is about 31 hz. Not too terrible.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Went to the Royals-A's game tonight, it was real fun. Royals lost, but who cares, they still launched fireworks afterward. Plus it was buck night so I had 6 hot dogs and two drinks for $8. Plus they had a deal where you could get four tickets (luckily I was with exactly 3 friends) and $40 worth of concession stand money for only $60. hard to beat that. But the management sure didn't think so many people would show up. The place was about sold out, something like 35-38,000 people, and the lines to concessions were ridiculous. A worker there said they were only staffed for about 20,000 people. Hmm. Somebody didn't figure correctly. But when you get basically the holy grail of promotions coming together all at once- fireworks, buck night (hot dogs, drinks, peanuts, and twinkies for $1), the ticket deal, Zack Greinke on the mound, and Friday night, you're going to get a lot of people.
  10. You couldn't have wired the sub at 4 ohms initially since it's a dual 4 ohm sub, if you used both coils as I assume you did. If you wired the coils in series, it was 8 ohms. if you wired them in parallel, it's 2 ohms. With the burning smell you got, that more than likely indicates cooked coils. You need to understand that just because an amplifier is rated at 500 watts RMS doesn't mean it can't put out more. In fact, at full clip the amp may put out nearly 1,000 watts. So it is very possible that you overpowered it. Also, if I recall correctly, Alpine just doesn't do recones.

Running Kicker 08zx1500 amp to a 15" BL sub?

    That is very pertinent.

    Stop the rise

Impedance shift will always be there. You can't get rid of it. You can limit it, however. To get an idea, download winISD alpha, input your sub's parameters, and look at the impedance graph. It won't be exactly accurate, but it will give you an idea of what's going on and what shifts to box parameters will adjust the shift and its amplitude. Or if you have the appropriate equipment, you can take measurements with test tones and make your own graph. But I'll tell you that sometimes it's not so much eliminating the amount of impedance rise as just moving where the rise occurs. Since you're just doing a one-note wonder box, you're only going to worry about impedance at that frequency. So maybe playing with the box parameters just so that the impedance curve moves over a few hertz so that you're in a trough instead of a peak in the impedance chart, that may work. Generally impedance is lowest at tuning and sweeps up from there both above and below tuning. Tuning higher lowers the amplitude of the curve above tuning frequency, and increasing box size lowers that peak as well. But, if you increase box size you take away mechanical power handling, so that's a bit of a balancing act.

Are Fi Subs easy to blow?

Um, well, they're not easier or harder to blow than any other sub. The problem is that people think that all subs are so underrated and "need" twice their RMS power, and just push too hard. If you're smart with the volume, any sub willl last forever.

    Tuned too low or...?

It's a combination of low tune and being in a larger car. Your idea of a larger cab helping bass is reversed, it actually hurts because now there is more air to pressurize. Not too sure on those cars, but I imagine they use some pretty good insulation on those seats and back deck, so you really only have the ski hole to allow the bass waves to pass, which isn't a lot of area, especially compared to a wide-open cab of a truck.

    will this amp work

The BL is rated at 1000 watts RMS, so yes.
  20. Oh man, I forgot about the old Orion G4 amps. 225, 250, 275, 2100, etc. One of the first few amps stable at .5 ohm stereo/1 ohm mono, and severely underrated. Nearly twice listed power at each impedance was normal, and rock solid reliability.

    Box building help

If you don't tell us what class you're in, how would we know? Hard to say what the aero port site is talking about, maybe just 3 db over a standard sealed enclosure. Which, duh, now it's ported. That's the general rule of thumb on increase from sealed to ported. And they probably mean as long as box size and tuning frequency are appropriate for a ported box.

Today I'm starting to switch things up, instead of doing 3 x 8-10 reps, I'm going to do 5 x 5-6. Today was all legs, including- Hack Squat Seated calf raises seated leg curl leg extension Regular Squat Face-down leg curl Lunges Then I did 20 minutes on bike, although I switched that up to and moved to random hill setting, as opposed to the flatlanding I was doing before. Which was weird, because it said I did 7.5 miles in 20 minutes of hill time today, but on the flat land setting I would only do about 3.5 miles in 20 minutes at the same RPM.
